Me and my girlfriend have just come back from Turkey, and we stayed at La Rosa. Having read the reviews on TripAdvisor before we left, I was a bit apprehensive about what we were letting ourselves in for. However, I am glad to say that it exceeded expectations, and made for a fantastic holiday.

Location - Almost perfect. Far enough away from the bars/clubs of Gumbet for you to enjoy the quiet, but not too far if you fancied a 10 min walk down for a drink and a jig! It is at the top of quite a steep hill, so walking down is ok. Walking back up is a hike! However, a cab to/from Gumbet bar street is 11 TL (just under £4), so it's not too pricey. There is a mosque nearby, and there is a call of prayer about 5 times daily - first of the day at about 5am and last at about 9pm. It is loud(ish) but I think it adds to the character of the area. Remember, Turkey is a Muslim country. You barely even notice the one at 5am because you'll be sound asleep (if you're over 30!!! ;) ). The town and Marina of Bodrum are about 15 mins away in a cab (didnt use the Dolmus bus), depending on traffic and route taken it costs anywhere between 15 TL and 25 TL. Well worth the trip though. Great reastaurants and bars on the marina, and so bayside restaurants in the Bazaar. Search them out - you won't be disappointed! There's also Myndos Gate and the Ampitheatre to visit if you like a bit of history. Again, both about 5/10 mins in a cab. Beware of the cabs though. They throw them things around like Dodge 'ems! You can get a cab at the hotel by pressing the button on the wall by the entrance steps. A cab will be there within minutes.

Hotel rooms - Clean and spacious. We had room 206 on the second floor of the main building facing the pool. Not extreme luxury, but absolutely fine if you need somewhere to rest your head, get ready, or relax on the Juliette-style balcony. The cleaners come in "when they can". For us, that was about every other day. That was fine for us, because we had no intention of making a pig-sty of our room anyway. We asked for a double bed and got it. It was enormous!
The room had air-con at £4 per day - as said before on here, a bit of a cheek seeing as we don't charge people for central heating when they come to the UK, but you can't do without it. Leaving the balcony door just heats the room up. You can't leave it open at night because the pool bar is open until 3am, and you get a rather loud call of prayer at 5am. But the air-con is good, and if the door is shut, it cools the room down fine. Unfortunately, the door key is welded to the electricity fob, so you can't leave the air con on when you leave the room. That's a minus-point.

Pool / Bar - Pool is clean and cool. Could be a bit bigger. There is a lack of sun loungers so, despite warnings against it, you have to go and claim a couple early in the morning. I was getting up at 8, getting a couple of loungers, then going for breakfast. People do put down their towels earlier than that, despite the warning not to, but unfortunately that's just the way it goes.
The bar was a little on the expensive side I thought. Water and soft drinks were fine, but alcohol did add up. You can either pay as you buy, or run a tab and pay the following morning at reception. I'd recommend the 'pay as you buy' option, as you don't notice it adding up when you've got a room tab going, and all of a sudden you've done £50. Paying as you buy helps you keep mindful of what you're spending. Have read reviews that bar staff add drinks to these bills, but I didn't see that happen with us. Though they could do with smiling every now and then! Had some lunch around the pool. Burgers were ok, and the salads were very good. Fairly reasonably priced too.

Restaurant - Only used this for breakfast, which wasn't too good if I'm honest. One of the few let-downs. Warm milk for cereal. No tea or coffee. One small toaster, which meant queuing for toast. Meats, cheese, eggs, olives (???) - all of which looked quite unappetising. No fruit. I stuck to toast....when I could get near the toaster. Wasn't impressed there.

Over all, a very nice week in Turkey at a very decent hotel. It's not luxury, so don't go expecting that. But the staff are helpful, the hotel is clean and a pleasant environment, and it's well located. Can't really knock it at all!

This is the second time we have been to this hotel. It is a bit of a walk from the beach, and the rest of the resort, but taxis are easily available. A lot of care has been taken with the layout, giving little areas an individual feel. It is very clean and spacious, with a well maintained garden, baby tortoises, a pool shaded in part with palm trees. It feels like an oasis after a long hot walk up the hill. A great place to relax, and a great atmosphere when we were there. There would be enough sun loungers if people didn't put towels on them and then disappear for the day. We had two bedrooms and a lounge with a balcony for a family of six, which was comfortable. The manager was very helpful and friendly, and the owners were often around, chatting to the guests. The dining area is a terrace shaded by an olive tree and vines, overlooking the pool which is lit at night. The food could be improved. Breakfast buffet was okay, but got a bit boring after two weeks, and not restocked frequently enough, so we had to keep going back for stuff. They really need a bigger toaster. The evening meal was a decent set menu, some days better than others. However, if you didn't like the meal or couldn't eat it for other reasons and let them know early, they did provide other options at no extra charge. Considering that the cost of half board at this hotel was less than a lot of self catering places I would say it was good value for money. Just take some money to eat out occasionally. Overall this is a very good hotel with room for improvement. My advice is, if you have any problems, speak nicely to the manager.

Just returned from a week's stay at La Rosa. After reading initial review's I was a little concerned however I think we may have stayed at a completely different hotel. We received a warm welcome when we arrived. Our room was clean as was rest of the hotel, the room was cleaned daily and sometimes this was late in the afternoon but there are not a huge number of maids and they have a lot of work to do. All the staff from managers to bar/dinning staff were friendly nothing was too much trouble, We had couple of small problems in room which were fixed immediately. The food was perfectly edible but it is not a five star hotel if you want five star food you need to book a five star hotel, We found the food very good and it is Turkish breakfast served on a morning which was adequate for our needs and tasty but if you are looking for a cooked English breakfast you will need to go out and eat. The pool area is clean and the pool itself lovely for a cool dip. There was a lack of sunshades but there is lots of trees where you can find that much needed shade if you choose to. The rep Sophie was helpful and knowledgeable about the area and always present at the hotel if you needed but we found that the hotel staff particularly the two desk managers both day and night would help organise or sort out anything you need. We only had one very small problem with bar bill and it was corrected immediately. The atmosphere at hotel was warm and friendly and staff go out of their way to ensure you have a good time. Gumbet is a 10 minute walk away but taxis are available but we chose to walk. There is a supermarket 5 minute walk away for any extras you may need. I would like to recommend Pasta Elvi when you reach bottom of hill as you are walking into Gumbet as it serves the most delicious cakes and coffee/Turkish tea. We had a fabulous stay at the Hotel La Rosa, although the resort of Gumbet was not to our taste, the hotel being set away from the main busy resort was a bonus as we did not have constant noise from bars etc. This is a superb little hotel and it was a delight to spend a holiday there.

When first arriving at La Rosa, it exceeded my expectations - the website doesn't do it justice at all!! The pool, surrounded by palm trees is beautiful and very clean.

Positives:
The hotel is very clean, as is the pool and bar areas.
The staff are very friendly, and happy to help.
The menu is well advertised. You can get drinks at the bar and pay the next day, or at the end of the stay.
There is a button on the outside wall, that you press when you need a taxi. The longest we had to wait was probably 3 minutes.
The location is ok, a 10 minute walk to Bar street. If you walk the opposite direction upmonto the main road, you can get many buses to several locations (Bodrum, Torba, Betiz, Waterpark) from only 3 TL. Its also a 10 minute walk to the Oasis shopping centre.

Negatives:
The maid service is not the best - we had to ask for toilet rolls and clean towels a couple of times. One day, nobody attended the room at all.
The bar is a little bit pricey, and the bar snack I had (a burger), was stale bread.
The menu for half board is not very varied - just one option each night. (however, what we did have was nice).

Overall, I would definately stay here again, despite the 10 minute walk tot he main streets and bars. A taxi there only cost 10 TL anyway. Definately recomend this hotel.

We stayed for 1 week in August and had a splendid time. The hotel is clean and efficient. The staff could not do more to be friendly and helpful. Perched on top of a hill the hotel is well situated away from the noisy nightlife of Gumbet but only a 10tL cab ride away. The surrounding area is residential and walking from the hotel you will meet genuine Turkish people who are amongst the friendliest I have met. The pool is lovely and the price of drinks compares favourably with that paid in bars/restaurants in the surrounding areas. The drinks were cold and definitely served with ice. The food also compares with that served in local cafes. The mosque is nearby and there are daily calls to prayer but they are not intrusive. This is a budget hotel so extras like Wi-Fi and air-conditioning have to be paid for, however these are obtained at reasonable prices. We had no problems with extras on the bill at all. There was no nightly entertainment but we did enjoy one evening of Turkish folk dancers as well as a belly dancer. You have the whole town at your fingertips so get out and explore!

I have just returned from this hotel, we were really worried before going due to bad reviews. We had three rooms myself and husband, my cousin and wife and our two daughters 15 & 16. The rooms were much better looking than pictures on here. I think they have recently done them up. This hotel is not big and the grounds are lovely. It is like a little oasis really nice.
There are not many staff, they have two men that cover reception one during the day the other all night someone available 24hrs they are really friendly and willing to help with any issues. You do have to pay for air conditioning but as stated in many reviews was expecting this at £4. A day and also pay for a safe box that is located behind reception. They have 3 waiters that work in the dining area breakfast is a buffet as said previously bread, cheese, salad, olives, ham boiled eggs, cereal and jams sometimes scrambled eggs basic but substantial there is only only two slice toaster which does accumulate a queue. evening meal every day there is a board showing what the meal is for that day it normally always starts with bruschetta then a soup then a main and then dessert if it is something you don't like you can inform reception before 12 noon and change for pasta, burgers or chicken nuggets etc. the food is not 5 star but edible we went for 2 weeks and had something different everyday chicken shish rice and salad, fish and chips, spaghetti bolognaise, meatballs, chicken steak, chicken corden bleu, beef casserole, chicken casserole, Turkish ottoman dish, pasta with tomato sauce, desserts ice cream, melon, an angel delight, chocolate cake and another sponge which was a bit sweet and wet with a syrup. The service is bit slow as they try to serve all starters first then mains it does take upto two hrs and they are a bit slow with the drinks but you can go and get them from the bar yourself. They have two young men behind the bar as said before on reviews the system is not great you order drinks give you room number and they write them down and you pay the following day or you can go to reception ask for bill and pay as you go along. You do have to keep an eye on them as we did have a couple of mistakes but easily rectified. Not much entertainment in the evening mainly karaoke the bar staff are keen to dance with you and stay open late music ok a bit repetitive. Wifi is not free it cost 10 tl a day and can only be used in reception and around the pool all bars and restaurants have free wifi if you ask them. Dolmas buses run from outside hotel into bites, gum bet and bod rum they are cheep only 3tl each you can also arrange cabs from hotel and there are plenty appantly cheep also although we never used them.
Walking into gumbet isn't far about 10 min down hill not too bad as long as you avoid the mid day heat the pavements are practically non exisistant walking back is a bit of a hike. There are local supermarkets around that you can buy snacks and drinks which you can have in your room but not in the public or pool areas. I liked this place because it was small and friendly you get to know everone. On the whole we really enjoyed this hotel and had a great holiday we would consider returning again. You have to make up your own mind really what some people are not happy with can be perfect for you.
