Me and friend stayed here for 2 weeks in June 2012.. we arrived into a tiny box room with hardly room for the two of us to move only one tiny mirror in the bathroom and balcony overgrown by trees..you have to pay for air-con so first thing we did was go to reception to find out how much it was..the receptionist had no english but managed to tell us it was 20pounds a week so we asked how much that would be in euro and she said 40euro a week totally trying to rip us off..when we said this to her though she could not understand us and there was no reasoning with her so had to go without air-con as we were not paying 80euro for two weeks!
We didnt get our room cleaned often by choice but when we did the cleaner rearranged our whole wardrode and moved all of our things around..on one occasion I walked in while he was in there and he had one of our locked suitcases with passports money etc inside it up, on the bed wide open! he got such a shock when I walked in that he flipped over the whole bed to try and hide the suitcase ..and couldnt explain himself then because he had very basic english..nothing was taken. The staff didnt really care if we had a problem we were left to fend for ourselves..not much entertainment in the restaurant and food was basic. The pool wasnt great either no music or atmosphere but at least it was clean!
However the hotel is in a great location and close to everything you need.. cannot fault Gumbet its a great place to go on holiday with lovely people in the town and Bar Street is always great craic..this hotel is perfect for people who just want a bed to sleep in which suited us perfectly.. if your looking for more then dont stay here!

I have been going to gumbet for about 15 years and this as got to be the worst place i have ever stayed. when we pulled up outside we thought it look quite nice but as soon as we enter we started to think differently the reception area was dirty the receptionist was not very freindly and she was not very pleasant, we were shown to our apartment and well it was thick with dust, there were stains on the bed sheets, toilet didnt flush bath leaked when shower was running, iwent and reported it, and asked to be moved so we were taken to another apartment and that was no better so my wife went to the shop brought cleaning products and had to start cleaning it the water in the mop bucket was filthy. the bed sheets and pillows also had stains we reported this and they changed them but they were also stained along with the towels, the woman was not happy at all with us. we came back back from the beach one afternoon to find our door wide open nobody around we saw a cleaner and he said that him and his wife had so much to do he forgot to shut it and lock it i was furious. my children were scared to death after being woken by staff digging outside there bedroom window at 3 o clock in the morning when i spoke to them i was just shouted at , that was the final straw and we checked out absolutely the hotel from hell.

Okay where do i start right here it goes the from the minute i reached the hotel it was a disaster there was none there to take us in as there where sleeping on the chairs in the reception and the took us to our room and they didn't show us anything how to lock the door or turn the lights on with the key as you may think this is bad this isn't the start okay so the next morning we went down and asked the boy down the stair to help us and then we were wondering how we could put all our clothes in the wardrobe and then as we asked the boy if he could give us some more he gave us 2 more and said to us so cheeky if we wanted and bit of paper and a pen to right down everything more to moan about then that night i couldn't sleep right so i pulled the bed sheet up and there was Kirby's everywhere and then that morning me and my friend went down to the breakfast in the morning and there was a hair in food i was s disgusted i wanted to be sick and then i asked one of the waiter he said my friend put the hair in my food and then you think that is bad well listen they started putting hot heater on the balcony and they were Turing it on when we were sitting on the balcony

so we meet girls there and we were all down to the pool and we were laughing and they manger was shouting at us for laughing and we were not to laugh at the pool and people felt uncomfortable so then the manger of the hotel started shouting at me in Turkish thinking i didn't
know what he was saying and i do he was calling me and animal so if you think this is bad then
do not go here !!!

This was my third time in Gumbet, but my friend's first time. We arrived at about 5am, dropped in the middle of the street to a hotel in darkness with no body to meet us. 6 of us arrived. Eventually we were told that they could not find us on the computer. The staff that were there were drinking. We eventually got to our room to find that we could not lock the door, we tried to explain this and eventually it was understood after much confusion. I then asked about air conditioning and a safe, the price was too dear so we were then told to go to reception the following day to agree a price. When we got up the next morning we went to reception to try sort this only to be told that there was no way to we could change the price. We then later discovered that the guy who checked us in didn't actually work in the hotel, but worked in a bar up the street. The apartment which was "self catering" was anything but. There was a two ring hob with no pots, pans or cooking utensils. There were 2 cups, with no handles, 2 filthy glasses, an orange juicer and a large baking bowl. The fridge was a disgrace, covered mold in it. The towels were changed once towards the end of the week and beds were never made or changed. The bathroom was the most disgusting thing imaginable. Had to wear flipflops to take a shower, there was no window, just a mesh covering a opening. Everything about the apartment was filthy. We had a balcony, which was basically in the restaurant, it was completely covered with no sunlight what so ever. This wasn't a major problem, but didn't help. The staff seemed friendly. One guy, Dave spoke to us about living in Ireland and seemed friendly, up until he confronted us at the pool on our way out one day. I was mortified and disgusted, he told us that we were the only people to stay at the hotel who hadn't eaten in the restaurant. I wasn't impressed by this at all. If we were supposed to be staying in a "Self Catering" apartment, surely that would mean we would cater for ourselves. The apartment was the worst thing about our trip to Gumbet. I look forward to going back to Gumbet, but I can safely say I will NEVER stay in this hovel ever again. I'd advise anyone planning a trip to Gumbet to stay clear of this kip.

Room Tip: DO NOT STAY HERE, that is the best advise I can give.

We pulled up at the Arya apartments and all looked good. We were greeted by a turkish george clooney and then shown to our room. This is where it all went wrong. We had to share our room with parasites, all sorts of little things crawling around. If you put your sandwich down it would walk out the room. The kitchen looked like a 1960's porn set and had limited functionality - not ideal for self catering.

Upon leaving the room we were pestered by the staff for a turkish bath. If you do not have 1 of these then you will be hated. The staff are generally ok but they do not leave you alone. They want your money but they also want to look after you. It must be a turkish thing.

We found a lovely little bar down the road called "paddys bar" and the bar man stevros looked after us well. He let us use the pool, bar and watch movies and sport on his big screen tv. We met a group of girls there and if there is 1 thing you do not do over in Gumbet is get drunk and allow yourself to be taken advantage of. A large framed gingerpottomus tried to drag me back to her love dungeon but luckily I managed to escape and man the harpoons.

There is a lovely beach that spans right the way across Gumbet and a nice guy down there that sells beach trips that goes my the name of Turkish Jack sparrow. There are a lot of nice bars down by the sea front and is where we spent most of our time.

Night times were great after we found a Karoke bar names "bloody mr frogs". After about 16 failed attempts at singing and finally realizing I was not in fact the best singer in the world, they gave me a t-shirt and allowed me to stay drunk on their premises.

The music down the strip was the same every night for 4 weeks. My ears wanted to bleed. The strip consists of several bars and restaurants and it is very difficult to get anywhere without someone asking you to buy something. Also, there are a lot of stray dogs out there so when they offer you a steak, beware.

On the 2nd week we moved hotels. We went to stay in a mountain. It was all pretty much the same thing.

Gumbet is basically a Turkish version of Skegness but without the chavs and more with the

Room Tip: Drink your way through the experience.
