Me and my husband stayed for 11 nights b&b 17-28 sept 2012, everyone's experience is different some great and some bad, ours was terrible, on arriving we had to change onto 3 bus's to get to our hotel in between waiting to get bus's we waiting in a scary area felt as though we were about to be kidnapped, we arrived at the hotel it took the bus driver 15 minute's of banging on the main doors to wake staff up, I'm aware of the saying you get what you pay for, but come on, our room was so small a bed, broken bedside cabinet and a small wardrobe oh and a broken TV and broken fridge that smelled badly, squeezed between the bottom of bed and the wall,no where for our suit cases as wardrobe rails were broken and the rest was small compartments, there holes in wall exposing cables, air con device on wall half hanging off, our bed consisted of 1 pillow and 2 sheets no quilt or blanket, dead skin lying on the floor in our room and bathroom.

Our room faced the main street and unknown to us our room was literally next to the outdoor restaurant.

Bathroom, no window, no fan, shower cubicle so tiny if i were pregnant i wouldnt fit in, shower doors only partly opened and stuck so was a squeeze getting in and out,the floor, shower and sink was filthy, water was a light dribble, cold water the entire time, bathroom pretty dirty with overflown bin and large hole in top of wall, im assuming this was in place of a fan or window, expanding foam around the walls and door frames to fill in some gaps, the floor, shower, walls, sink were filthy, no loo rolls, clean towels once after 2 days, no clean bedding at all the whole stay, we asked several times the woman who sometimes stood behind the reception desk would just say ill ask my friend or 'ok'

Breakfast we didnt go down anytime for breakfast we were too exhausted as the restaurant plays music really late and loud and our room was right next to it.

We paid for a safe deposit box which was on the wall in reception you could only get access when the woman from reception was about, as you needed your key and her key to access this, 9 times out of 10 she was no where to be seen, we missed out on several trips out as we couldn't get access to our money. The food wasn't that nice but we tried it, they looked offended when we didn't finish our food at least we tried, although the tuna salad was very nice. Majority of the staff didn't really have much time for you unless you were young and female. The pool area was ok, pool was filthy, the metal handles getting in and out of pool were broken, you werent aloud to bring food or drink on poolside unless you bought it from the bar or restaurant. We were told by a rep (jason) that if we needed to speak to himself or thomas cook people we were aloud to use hotels phone, however it turned out we weren't aloud. Reps were hardly there and when they were there they couldn't be bothered with you as they knew too well the state of the hotel, we asked for paper work to put complaints in never received any always an excuse ill bring them next time, never happened, we did have a mini meeting with our guests about moving or putting in more complaints but that was useless hotel staff didn't really respond and jason was awol a lot and again couldn't use telephone to call rep, joy the 2nd rep who came was abrupt wasn't interested in complaints or putting anyone at ease, all she was interested in was we all were to stop complaining to the hotel staff, two ladies staying were handed written warnings from thomas cook if they were to complain to hotel staff anymore they would have to leave the hotel and find there own flights home. It just seemed 99% of the people we talked to staying has problems and complaints it shows thomas cook never check there hotels. After this point we stopped complaining and tried our best to ignore the problems didn't fancy getting a grilling from joy or told to leave.

However we did manage to enjoy two days away, one was a boat trip up the coast stopped off at several places, that was quite nice met lots of people, and pretty cheap worked out £20 for the day for both of us incs lunch and as much free alcohol as you wanted, we also went to ephesus archaeological site very cheap worked out about £40 for both of us inc lunch and tea and entrance to ephesus oh and also an 8 hours round trip they forget to tell you that part, but was worth the long journey amazing experience.

The beach was 3 min walk you get pestered a lot to book trips or have food and drink, after a few days they didn't really bother you, we noticed people with tans they didn't bothered. The shops and other pubs were just 5-10 min walk, we found a mcdonalds and an english pub along with other bars and eating places.

The's a bus stop opposite the restaurant we went into bodrum most days i think it was around 50p was both of us one way on the bus which took around 10 min's to get into bodrum, lots of markets and side shops, make sure you you keep your bags and purses close bye, lots of bargains if you can haggle with them. We also walked along the marina some amazing boats and yachts.

We also went to the water park was a good day out, although on arriving there were police with guns on site they search everyone and there bags, make sure you have water proof sun cream on. There was food and drinks served all day, reasonably priced.

Thomas cook did have a booklet of days out you could book with them we choose not to as the reps were nowhere to be seen when we would of booked and couldn't use telephone to arrange anything, they were a lot more expensive, you could literally walk outside the hotel and there would be people selling trips for half the price which is what we did, there were plenty of currency exchange places just up from hotel, don't mention to hotel staff you are looking for currency exchange as they target you when you come back into booking the moroccan and turkish nghts. If there was a turkish night on or anything like that if you didn't book a seat you were not aloud in the bar.

There was a little convenience shop sold most things just down from hotel a minute walk pretty cheap too.

This was our experience, everyone's is different, we wont go back to gumbet or that hotel or recommend it, will also never use thomas cook again, we complained when we came back and we were basically told we were lying exaggerating even though we had pictures etc and diary of complaints and other guests contact details, when we complained all we wanted was a 'sorry' but didn't happen, never mind lesson learned will use other companies in future. If we had the extra money on us we would of flown back after 3 days.

The night we were waiting on our bus to go to the airport there was a little booklet brochures of the hotel sitting on a table in reception, i really did have to laugh, the pictures of the rooms were immacualte 5 star very modern oh and with sea views but i can say there are no sea views, although the beach was a few minutes walk, there was no sea views from the rooms the couldn't be, the pictures of the rooms have got to of been from another hotel, i showed thomas cook but as usual they had an excuse why the hotel was false advertising!!

We are pretty laid back people who normally don't complain, but all we asked for was a clean room with clean towels and bedding not asking for a lot. And someone to be on reception at least through the day so people can access there money or have queries.

it wont let my choose 2013 when we travelled 2013 will only show up

Me and friend stayed here for 2 weeks in June 2012.. we arrived into a tiny box room with hardly room for the two of us to move only one tiny mirror in the bathroom and balcony overgrown by trees..you have to pay for air-con so first thing we did was go to reception to find out how much it was..the receptionist had no english but managed to tell us it was 20pounds a week so we asked how much that would be in euro and she said 40euro a week totally trying to rip us off..when we said this to her though she could not understand us and there was no reasoning with her so had to go without air-con as we were not paying 80euro for two weeks!
We didnt get our room cleaned often by choice but when we did the cleaner rearranged our whole wardrode and moved all of our things around..on one occasion I walked in while he was in there and he had one of our locked suitcases with passports money etc inside it up, on the bed wide open! he got such a shock when I walked in that he flipped over the whole bed to try and hide the suitcase ..and couldnt explain himself then because he had very basic english..nothing was taken. The staff didnt really care if we had a problem we were left to fend for ourselves..not much entertainment in the restaurant and food was basic. The pool wasnt great either no music or atmosphere but at least it was clean!
However the hotel is in a great location and close to everything you need.. cannot fault Gumbet its a great place to go on holiday with lovely people in the town and Bar Street is always great craic..this hotel is perfect for people who just want a bed to sleep in which suited us perfectly.. if your looking for more then dont stay here!

I have been going to gumbet for about 15 years and this as got to be the worst place i have ever stayed. when we pulled up outside we thought it look quite nice but as soon as we enter we started to think differently the reception area was dirty the receptionist was not very freindly and she was not very pleasant, we were shown to our apartment and well it was thick with dust, there were stains on the bed sheets, toilet didnt flush bath leaked when shower was running, iwent and reported it, and asked to be moved so we were taken to another apartment and that was no better so my wife went to the shop brought cleaning products and had to start cleaning it the water in the mop bucket was filthy. the bed sheets and pillows also had stains we reported this and they changed them but they were also stained along with the towels, the woman was not happy at all with us. we came back back from the beach one afternoon to find our door wide open nobody around we saw a cleaner and he said that him and his wife had so much to do he forgot to shut it and lock it i was furious. my children were scared to death after being woken by staff digging outside there bedroom window at 3 o clock in the morning when i spoke to them i was just shouted at , that was the final straw and we checked out absolutely the hotel from hell.

Okay where do i start right here it goes the from the minute i reached the hotel it was a disaster there was none there to take us in as there where sleeping on the chairs in the reception and the took us to our room and they didn't show us anything how to lock the door or turn the lights on with the key as you may think this is bad this isn't the start okay so the next morning we went down and asked the boy down the stair to help us and then we were wondering how we could put all our clothes in the wardrobe and then as we asked the boy if he could give us some more he gave us 2 more and said to us so cheeky if we wanted and bit of paper and a pen to right down everything more to moan about then that night i couldn't sleep right so i pulled the bed sheet up and there was Kirby's everywhere and then that morning me and my friend went down to the breakfast in the morning and there was a hair in food i was s disgusted i wanted to be sick and then i asked one of the waiter he said my friend put the hair in my food and then you think that is bad well listen they started putting hot heater on the balcony and they were Turing it on when we were sitting on the balcony

so we meet girls there and we were all down to the pool and we were laughing and they manger was shouting at us for laughing and we were not to laugh at the pool and people felt uncomfortable so then the manger of the hotel started shouting at me in Turkish thinking i didn't
know what he was saying and i do he was calling me and animal so if you think this is bad then
do not go here !!!

This was my third time in Gumbet, but my friend's first time. We arrived at about 5am, dropped in the middle of the street to a hotel in darkness with no body to meet us. 6 of us arrived. Eventually we were told that they could not find us on the computer. The staff that were there were drinking. We eventually got to our room to find that we could not lock the door, we tried to explain this and eventually it was understood after much confusion. I then asked about air conditioning and a safe, the price was too dear so we were then told to go to reception the following day to agree a price. When we got up the next morning we went to reception to try sort this only to be told that there was no way to we could change the price. We then later discovered that the guy who checked us in didn't actually work in the hotel, but worked in a bar up the street. The apartment which was "self catering" was anything but. There was a two ring hob with no pots, pans or cooking utensils. There were 2 cups, with no handles, 2 filthy glasses, an orange juicer and a large baking bowl. The fridge was a disgrace, covered mold in it. The towels were changed once towards the end of the week and beds were never made or changed. The bathroom was the most disgusting thing imaginable. Had to wear flipflops to take a shower, there was no window, just a mesh covering a opening. Everything about the apartment was filthy. We had a balcony, which was basically in the restaurant, it was completely covered with no sunlight what so ever. This wasn't a major problem, but didn't help. The staff seemed friendly. One guy, Dave spoke to us about living in Ireland and seemed friendly, up until he confronted us at the pool on our way out one day. I was mortified and disgusted, he told us that we were the only people to stay at the hotel who hadn't eaten in the restaurant. I wasn't impressed by this at all. If we were supposed to be staying in a "Self Catering" apartment, surely that would mean we would cater for ourselves. The apartment was the worst thing about our trip to Gumbet. I look forward to going back to Gumbet, but I can safely say I will NEVER stay in this hovel ever again. I'd advise anyone planning a trip to Gumbet to stay clear of this kip.

Room Tip: DO NOT STAY HERE, that is the best advise I can give.
