my wife and i were staying at the la maison appartments in gumbet for the first time. we stayed for 2 weeks from the 16/09 - 30/09 , and i can say that most of the reviews on here seemed to be bad ones. but to my delight it was nothing like the reviews i had read ... here is my review
upon arrival we were taken to our room by a member of staff who was both helpful and friendly he showed us how to use the room key and put our cases in the room for us , the cleaners came to clean the room every day and supplied toilet roll when needed (which is unusual in turkey) the pool area was clean and bar staff helpful, sunbeds for the first week was ok as there was enough but on the second week there were more guests so it seemed there was not enough, the bathroom which i had read had a small shower in was yet again to my delight one of the biggest showers i have had in a room in turkey , the hill the hotel is on is quite steep but there is steps from the main street up the bank to the hotel which did help but again unless you get short of breath by walking up steep hills dont let this bother you, the bars are quite loud at night which starts from about 7 pm and goes on till about 2:30 - 3:00 am then it seems to get a bit quieter, the rooms do have air con which is payable at reception for about 10 tl a day and also safe boxes are in reception which again is payable at about 5 tl a day. i would say that from my experience that it is not a hotel for families with young children because of the noise. places to go for food and drinks in my opinion are :- smileys grill for great service and great food , shanghai for great food and drinks , roys place on the beach for great food and service , windy bay for food and money exchange at great rates , my moon bar for a great night out with drinks or food , china town had some nice food too and gumbet house was another with nice food and friendly staff ... in my opinion i would stay away from smileys bar for drinks as when we went on the second night of our holiday the drinks tasted watered down and were quite expensive for what you got , also the bloke on the door was quite annoying shouting across the road all the time.. most people who were on the doors of restaurants were polite and friendly except one on bar street next to burger king who was rude ... but all in all a polite no thank you to them was enough...

Room Tip: we stayed on the 2nd floor which was the main level but could hear people moving about and talking so not sure which of the 3 floors would be best

On the positive side the apartments have a nice pool and are in a central location but not too far from the beach. We had an apartment behind the bar away from the road so did not suffer from noise. We did not find the incline to the apartments a problem.
The apartment though was poorly maintained with a leaking kitchen sink and broken tiles in the bathroom etc. During our two week stay we rarely had clean towels and only one change of bedding when they replaced the bottom sheet on the bed but not the top. We had a brief visit from the cleaners each day for about 2 minutes to empty the bins. No other cleaning took place. The only time we had hot water in the apartment was on the last day when we showered mid afternoon prior to departure. We kept the apartment on until 6 oclock on our last day which we were told would cost us 12 pounds but when it came to paying they had increased it to 20 pounds.
The cost of drinks at the pool side bar were far dearer than the outside bars leading to it rarely being used especially on a night when it was empty.
The second and third floor rooms have have tiny balconies, the ground floor rooms do not have a terrace.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony away from the road.

Arrived back home on the 3rd Sept from a 2 week holiday at La Maison Apartments. I went with 3 friends of mine and we had an absolute ball!! Perfect location for going out partying etc. Our room was cleaned every second day which suited us fine, the staff were lovely (especially "John" the daytime barman and "Nero" the nighttime barman and the nighttime receptionist "Dan" was such a lovely young man! - all of them were always up for a good laugh!) However - I wouldn't recommend this place for families with young kids (too loud) or elderly people (too loud) or anyone with mobility issues (a lot of steps and a short, but very steep hill to the entrance of the hotel).

Currently looking to book another one for October! :)

Highly recommended for young folk looking for somewhere basic but clean to stay!

just returned this morning after 2 weeks at the la maison apts, not very happy with apts at all i would give them a 1 star rating ive only give a 2 star as we met some lovely people whilst there ,we have been to turkey for the last 20 something years and have never been glad to get home but this time was off putting to say the least.we know that accomodation is very basic in turkey so we werent expecting a 5 star we were in room 103 which is literally 10 steps from the pool great yes but bedroom window couldnt be opened as it was just a brick wall to look at and the 1 time we did open it a very large cockroach walked in .cleaner came in most days but not every day and when he did he just skimped round when we arrived the glass in the door had childrens hand prints smeared all across it and they were still there when we left 2 weeks later, floor was only cleaned twice, bedding i think once, shower never,as for the surrounding areas great if you want the hassle as soon as you walk out of the entrance from the 3 bars across the road and 1 of em can be very nasty if you dont go in spike from chicos wot a horrible person he is,very noisy at night you have to go out and get drunk to sleep we stayed in a couple of nights as our budget was extremley exceeded and didnt have any sleep at all its so noisy.john and neil are very nice they do the bar day and night, weather was amazing as always,so expensive from last year and every1 seemed to want to rip you off as we were numerously.upon checkout we were told we had run up a bar bill of 59 tl which we know we hadnt as we pay as we buy but ended up paying it.stay away from ali babas kebab shop opp.pasha and istankoy kebab opp chicos they blatantly rip you off then laugh at you after.if ever go back to gumbet will stay at the agar apartments where we stayed last year and who welcomed us in the evenings this time unfortunate it was full when we decided to book up love ya mary xx thankyou to michael & danny, fiona, graham and family, margerat and dougie for your company whilst there best thing to come out of the holiday .

Room Tip: ask for a room with a balcony and pool view
