“Perfect except for one staff member”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

Everything was amazing. No complaints. Room was clean and tidy, pool was clean and tidy. Food taste good. All the staff were really friendly except for one person. His name was boruc the manager with glasses. He was unbelievably rude and not accommodating at all from the second we walked in until we left. He did not greet wiv smile, he threw the papers at us, he checked our wristband so obviously like we was criminals. When we asked for late checkout he simply said no without checking if he could accommodate us. He should not be a manager let alone work for such a great hotel. General manager needs to get rid of him. All other staff such as osman, mehmet, kadir, ayse, asi, mr google were fantastic and made us feel at home. We did not let this one rude person ruin our holiday. The hotel is on a bit of a hill which is a nice walk in morning but after a long day best to get a dolmus back just easier. Cafe across the road is awesome. Still new but great food and service! Remember people avoid that one guy boruc he wears glasses!! Total idiot!

This may seem long but I hope to be helpful and in depth – I’ll run through what was relevant to us when we looked at booking this holiday.
We booked this as we got a good, all inclusive, last-minute deal through Teletext holidays. We are both in our 20’s and were only after a comfortable, relaxing, hot beach-type holiday. If that’s roughly you, then read on...

TRANSFERS
The transfer from Bodrum airport should have taken an hour, except they don’t account for taking other people to their hotels, so it actually took just over 2 hours to get to ours. Excitement overrules negativity there though.

ARRIVAL
We arrived on 6th June at around 3pm. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Osman is a true gem and a massive credit to the hotel. He will help you to your room and is a fountain of knowledge. The one and only upset of the holiday was the room...

THE ROOM
PLEASE READ – Teletext warned us that we would be thrown in a basement room with no outside view unless we upgraded on purchase – this was spot on! It was a twin room (terrible for a couple) but alas, this was not the hotel’s fault, but Teletext’s, as we did indeed pay for that upgrade prior to arrival. The Reservations manager (never caught the lady’s name) was very helpful and the next day we were totally upgraded – such a lovely room (Room 5510).
That being said, room 5510 was directly beneath the swimming pool, so every time someone used the steps in the pool, you heard the squeaking – not an issue as we were barely in the room during the day. The only thing some might find annoying is that at around 8am each day, they move the parasols around the pool area, which makes an extremely loud noise in that room! Luckily we were up and about around then anyway so it didn’t particularly bother us.

THE FOOD
The reviews on here had me worried slightly about the food, but I have no idea if these people were even at the right hotel, because the food was incredible! How they manage to put out so much varied and delicious food (buffet style) every lunch and dinner time, I don’t know!
There was so much to choose from and I don’t think I ate the same thing twice in the space of a week. Some nights they cooked traditional kebabs, others there was a huge 5ft tuna that they were carving up and barbecuing on the spot – amazing! They love cooking and it shows – one little compliment seems to make their day and we couldn’t help but be full of them. I’ll admit, pancakes before dinner is very odd, but I love pancakes....so I don’t care, ha!
Food times:
Breakfast – 7:30am – 10:00am
Lunch – 12noon – 2:00pm
Burgers – (around) 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Pancakes – 5:00pm – 7:00pm
Dinner – 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Late night – 11:00pm - ??? (soup only)

THE LOCATION
What a view! The hotel really is in the perfect place – you only need look at the pictures to see that – there’s no fooling anyone there. Gumbet itself is only really any good for buying little gifts, buying ‘genuine fake’ clothing/bags/perfume, or getting plastered in the evening. As the latter really didn’t matter to us, we generally avoided Gumbet after the first visit. Gumbet beach is where we booked a few day trips etc, but I’ll go into that in a moment.

TRANSPORT
We spent most of the holiday lazing around on beaches or by the pool, but the little green buses called the Dolmus are great and you can flag them down almost anywhere. For 3TL (each way, pp) you can go all the way to Bodrum, then onwards should you wish. They can get hot and a little crowded, but you’re only on it for about 20mins at most so there’s no real issue there.

WHAT TO DO?
AVOID THE REPS AT THE HOTEL!! They tell you that other places aren’t safe to book through blah blah blah, but they’re full of crap! They overcharge as they earn commission and our one in particular almost through a childish temper tantrum when we eventually told him we weren’t interested, saying, “Well what the hell do you plan to do on your holiday then?!”. Lovely man....

Head down to Gumbet beach and directly as you walk onto it off the main street (can be difficult to spot but there’s a fairly large Taxi rank and modern hotel there, which makes it more obvious), you can book water activities. We went for the parasailing at 150TL for the two of us. It was a great experience and we don’t regret that at all! We avoided the Dedaman Waterpark as we heard bad things from locals and an English lady who lived there. Apparently the exit pools on the flumes are very short and if you don’t ‘land’ properly you risk skidding out! Not for me thanks, haha.

Further along this same beach is a little stand with a guy called Popeye – his boat tours are much smaller but MUCH better. There were 10 of us on our trip and everyone was lovely and relaxed. The trip is from 9am – 5pm and drinks and food are included on the boat, stopping at 5-6 different places around the coastline – all for 50TL pp – AND they take you to and from your hotel - a bargain! You stop at various places and get to swim in the beautiful water and snorkel with the sea-life. Possibly the best part of our trip! Check out Seashells Boat Tour on Facebook – a man named Hakan is the captain and is a pleasure to have met.

PARTY BOAT WARNING – some guys we met at the hotel went on the giant catamaran party boat but said that they’d never do it again. The boat goes out to the middle of the sea, then comes back at 8am. You have the option to go back at 4am, but the 2,500 people on the boat all want to do that, but there are only 3 boats that go back, which hold 10 people at a time, and the trip takes 20 minutes, so you end up being stuck there til 8am anyway!

ENTERTAINMENT
I’m not really sold on the entertainment at this place. Mr Google will find you soon enough – he seems a lovely guy and informed us he was only working that job to save to study in America (who knows...). He is only of use if you are interested in drinking heavily of an evening, otherwise just keep to a friendly hello once in a while haha. There were a few acoustic acts around 9pm which was nice and relaxing, with the occasional Turkish dancers.
I WOULD prefer it if they turned the music down in the day time as it is constant and loud – bad if you have a lounger near the speakers!

TO CONCLUDE
This hotel is perfect for what we were after and also for the price we were spending. It’s by no stretch of the imagination a 5* hotel by UK standards, but that’s a given as they are different regulating bodies! It sounds silly to even mention, but if you’re nice to the staff, they’re nice back! Don’t be a holiday grump; just enjoy your time away!

UPS
Friendliness, room cleanliness, price, local activities, boat tours, sun trap/weather (30-34 celcius).

DOWNS
May have an issue with your room, music too loud/too much in the day time.

Room Tip: Avoid 1108 as this is the basement - your window looks IN to the building - very poor. There are gen...

We have been here for 2 weeks and loved the place first impressions weren't the best on arrival to our room as it could have done with a lick of paint and people still smoke in the rooms that left a bit of a lingering smell for a few days .
But on the whole the royal is a good place to stay and relax , the activities team headed by mr Google try very hard to accommodate and there is a range of things put on daily
They can also book excursions that are fairly priced too.
There is a awesome spa facility here that offers discounted packages and treatments that are well worth a try as the Balinese girls are good and know there job well .
Thanks spa team
Lastly the food and theatrics of the chefs are second to none every night has been a great surprise with awesome choices and a BBQ that never fails to amaze us with local fresh cooked traditional kebabs fish and steaks too whole yellow fin tuna cut and carved for you as you wait .
Following the service front of house team we could not have asked for more

This place is a great way to see this part of turkey and we will be returning
The cocktails are magic

Room Tip: Check out your room and ask if there is any you could change to

We arrived at the hotel after reading recent reviews expecting the worst. We had booked a cheap last minute stay and on arrival the hotel looked great.
We were given a small room with no balcony and a window looking at a wall. We weren't majorly bothered by this as we had got a last min deal and don't spend a huge amount of time in a room when on holiday but there appeared to be empty more spacious rooms with balconys close to our room ( in experience other hotels have always given a complementary upgrade if they have a nicer room available but this was not offered unless you pay 50Tl per day).
The room was satisfactory, the shower in the bathroom worked well and the air conditioning much appreciated. A big problem was that the doors to get into the building near our room, when shut were extremely loud and unless someone took the effort to close the door quietly (not often done) this would cause a major bang and often woke me in the night. There was a frequent loud humming sounds from the fridge in the room also which could be annoying.
We found the food to be very pleasant and changed on a daily basis. There was always some sort of food available from breakfast until late evening and a wide variety. We had no problems with getting drinks from the bar and were always served promptly. Staff were polite and helpful if we had a question but did not go put of their way to engage or help. The Turkish guests seemed to get more effort made from staff but this could have been due to the language barrier. Most staff spoke basic English but when on holiday abroad what more can you expect. There was a wedding on the Saturday night and staff started to clear put sun loungers from 430pm. They did this by clearing away empty loungrrs and then made people uncomfortable by washing floors directly around where they were sitting until they finally left. No one appeared to be told what was going on or asked if they minded to move so the wedding area could be prepared.
There was daily activities organised in the pool such as water polo and in the evening there was things organised such as music quizs. There was music played all day by the pool (mostly English) but at times was very loud and annoying.
Buses to bodrum are frequent and inexpensive and a walk into local gumbet took around 15mins and was down hill. Gumbet main streets at night are extremely loud and bright but down by the beach was very nice and a more relaxed atmosphere.
Our best trip was a day trip to kos which we organised with a tour rep at the hotel.
The hotel is definitely not 5star as advertised but it did a job and you get what you pay for!

Looking at some of the reviews I think people complain way too much about this hotel! For the price I paid, 340 pounds for a week all inclusive with flights you can't expect the best! You also wouldnt pay that much for a 5* hotel anywhere so if you think it is going to be a 5* hotel in Turkey with them prices, you are very much mistaken.
So here is my very honest review!

Came here with my boyfriend from 2nd June for a week and we are both 20/21.

Hotel: Not a 5*. Definitely has the 5* facilities that a hotel of that rating should have but unfortunately most of the facilities were closed or being refurbished.
The nightclub - not open and being refurbished.

Squash court - non existent.

Childrens play area - not much to play with.

Pool - lovely pool but get there early to get a sun lounger, we were never up early enough to get one!

The view - breathtaking, absolutely gorgeous and was so relaxing to sit there in the evening and watch the sun go down with a nice glass of wine!

The rooms - well I had already prepared myself for the 'no window' promo rooms that were available as I had researched on trip advisor before booking! Came to the hotel and a woman was shouting at the receptionist about this.. yes they should state on their website about this but if you look at their website, its pretty poor! Didn't bother us one bit as a holiday is meant to be spent OUTSIDE.

The staff - they tried their best to help us but you dont get unless you ask! There isnt a lot of information about the area and hotel facilities so you have to ask! Unfortunately they dont speak the best of English but they do try!

The food - lovely buffet food. The buffet food did get a bit boring towards the end but every night was a change in the meat/fish food and they cooked fresh meat and fish on the bbq outside which tasted gorgeous. Was embarrassed at the amount of people complaining there wasn't enough chips and fast food.

The Spa - the spa was lovely and they have some awesome package deals! We paid 75 turkish lira for an hour massage and the turkish hammam and it was great.

Its in a great location! Although you have to take a 5 min bus from the hotel to the beach, the beach has its own restaurant with free burgers/pasta/salad dishes and soft drinks throughout the day.

The Drinks - I agree with some people on here about the alcoholic drinks at the bar just before 11pm... spent many nights going up last minute to order a drink before the 11pm shut off but they ignored you or had a go saying english drink too much! However, we noticed the same staff who served us at 11pm were the same staff that were greeting us at 9am! Very much overworked.

All in all it was a fab holiday and Bodrum is a great place to visit! Yes the hotel isnt perfect but for the money we paid we were satisfied! This hotel is for you if you want a cheap, all inclusive experience near the town and aren't fussy!

Before writing this I read the latest reviews, well unfortunately most have described it accurately.
Who is responsible for classing it as a 5*? If any British Travel Agents e.g. Truly Travel (Teletext Holidays) read this could they have the courtesy to reply and let us holiday makers know.
My wife and I had problems on day one but overall we were lucky we had a good holiday, it could have been a lot better if this Hotel/Manager were to make several major changes, I saw the Manager for the first time on day 13 of our 14 day holiday I asked him if he would like some constructive criticism, he listened and he said he would deal with it! But as he is the problem I’m convinced nothing will change.
Keep the catering Manager and all his staff, they were excellent.
Mr Google is an OK guy and should be left by the management to do the entertainments job only, not selling excursions and going on pub crawls. If he was allowed to concentrate on entertainment in the hotel it may be more successful.
Must have one English speaking Receptionist at all times, especially when there are so many problems, the day staff coped ok.
Most Bar staff need to be re-trained, or replaced with some of the catering staff. They are also partly to blame for lake of atmosphere.
The Hotel made it clear that priority was given to weddings and other outside functions rather than looking after the holiday makers
There are many more problems but I will conclude, it looks 5* but it’s not, some parts are 2* but overall it’s a 3* with problems.

This hotel. Looks lovely outside and inside especially the view from the pool area. I could have sat there all day. Our room was spacious and very nice but the air condition didn't work properly. The food was not 5*. The selection of salads, vegetables and the sweets were delicious but the main meals weren't so good. repetitive. Not much choice and sometimes not hot enough. The waiters were very attentive and couldn't have been nicer to us.The pool area was lovely but most nights they moved the tables aside to set up area for Turkish Nights which we thought should have been elsewhere as we had paid to sit in this area whenever we wanted. There was no entertainment but we had a fab night of motown music because of a couple who were staying there on holiday. The guy was an American who had been a lead singer with a motown band. There was music played every night, a mixture of Turkish and British which didn't suit everybody. The senior bartender at the pool area had an attitude which left a lot to be desired and we saw him being nasty to a few people.

We met up with 2 lovely young girls from Kent who told us they had problems with their room and other complaints about the hotel and they spoke to the hotel manager as their room had water leaking on to the floor and they were given another room but they had to pay for an upgrade and weren't happy about this. The next day they complained to Mr. Google and he said he would get it sorted out for them, he said this for the next few days which we heard as they were sitting with us, but to no avail, they finally gave up as they were only there for 5 days but they were disgusted with the treatment they got and so were we as they were 2 vulnerable young girls.

This could be a good 5* hotel but some changes need to be made.AI could be a lot better.
