f I could sum the hotel up in a sentence it'd be, "excellent value for money if you get it at a cheap price".
I want to give it a good rating, but I just can't probably 3.5/5.0.
Reception - Afternoon and night workers were excellent, we were given a bit of dodgy advice by the morning bloke, but that aside he was friendly enough. Check in and check out hassle free and quick.
Positives - Far enough back to not be overly bothered by the pool bar music (room 410), and clean with fresh towels daily. Bed was comfy for me, although my other half found it hard. Aircon worked perfectly, as most of the appliances such as hairdryer etc.
Negatives - Bed only had 3 flat pillows, and despite asking for another one wasn't given one. Bedsheet was a single bedsheet on a double bed (as others have said), we ended up buying a double one for about a fiver as it was obvious we weren't going to get a better one again despite asking (suites had double duvets). No plug for the sink, and the toilet was a bit dodgy but workable. But these are minor kinks. Oh and the TV didn't work, but we weren't bothered.
Food - Breakfast was very samey - 3 different kind of rolls, hard boiled eggs (occassionally scrambled), Chips, foreign style Sausages and cheese. They did have honey and jam for the some bread as well. Lunch and Dinner always had something to please everyone, although you had to be there for the start of the meals otherwise they'd often run out. Usually they'd have a chicken or lamb dish with rice or cous cous, and again chips, but if you want "British" style pub grub, this isn't your hotel.
Pool and Bar -
Pool was small, but always available for a swim. Loungers were at a premium, but their physically isn't space for any more. One gripe was that sun loungers seemed to be reserved by people from as early at 10pm the previous night even though they weren't around the pool (although someone obviously had enough and complained, as they were removed one night by the hotel cleaner and left beside the bar). Had they moved there towels while they weren't there, there would have been enough for everyone.
Bar was manned by Alex and Sayid who both worked what seemed 12 hour days. Both were always happy and you will never lack for alcohol, the measures were a bit strong (Raki, Vodka and Gin). The beer was 'Troy' but again drinkable.
Location - At the end of the beach near Bodrum and the Windmills can be seen from the pool. The dolmus (both Orange and Blue) stop right outside the hotel and all go to Bodrum. The beach at Gumbet was a bit disappointing, but Bitez is a tenner away (round trip) by taxi which has a wonderful beach. The beach at Flora seemed particularly disappointing, we even saw one man cut his foot on this part of the beach.
Wish I read the review about the shaver before I went, as one day I returned to find mine a bit shall we say... sticky. I didn't think too much of it and just washed it down. It was the same old lady and young girl.
If you don't like cats, i'd suggest staying somewhere else as well, I think I counted 5 cats and 3 kittens at this hotel. In fact Gumbet in general seemed to have lots of cats all along the promenade.
One thing I did find annoying was on the beach front, the amount of PR people not leaving you alone, whether it be for boat trips, turkish baths or just simply eating. Saying no once should be enough, always look to see if somewhere is full, the fuller it is, the better it'll generally be.
Beach - Bitez, much better than Gumbet and quieter too
Restaurant - Kafedaki, overlooks the whole of Gumbet, breathtaking views and service. 1 day reservation needed, but ask at reception, they'll organise a free shuttle too and from. It is a little more expensive probably about £30 a head including 2 courses and wine. But well worth it if your looking for a special meal.
Do not go to Tempo which is recommended by the Hotel, you will be disappointed.
Boat Trips - There are plenty about, we went with Hotel Baba, but they didn't go to the hot springs or black island which they only informed us of once we were at sea. But they did drop sail and have about a half hour of the most relaxing journey. Sami's boat trip or Harry's boat trip did look good as well though.
And finally Exchange rates - Bodrum banks were about .10 higher than any change places.
Would I return to Flora? Probably not. It just didn't do enough
