Narrowed it down to Turkey this year, after a fabulous trip to Skiathos last. Year. Indecisive but my partner & I chose Queens Resort, Gumbet near Bodrum.

The hotel itself reminded me of that Honda car commercial of a few years ago ….it was “OK”. The room was of a reasonable size with a separate bedroom & Kitchen/living area. It looked as if it could do with a bit of updating & the bathroom door remained locked after usage – the key had be left with us by the handy man. Our room was at the back of block A, thus providing a quiet room. However the view from our balcony was of some big air conditioning units that were very ugly & at times quite loud: not conducive to relaxing in the evenings on a balcony that we had in mind.

Hotel Positives

- The room was one of the biggest I have come across for a “resort” hotel
- The shower was large with powerful water pressure & hot water at all times
- The pool was very large & clean, and the hotel & surrounds were kept spotlessly clean by the hard working staff
- For Gumbet it was positioned at the end of the resort so benefited from a quieter aspect

Hotel Negatives

- We booked through Thomas Cook & I am not sure which demographic this hotel was aimed at. During our 2 week stay the Queens Resort saw teen/twenty something groups of lads & girls (clearly in Gumbet for the nightlife and very loud during their late night/early morning returns ), families, grand parents, mature couples etc. I think Thoma Cook need to decide who they recommend/aim this hotel at.
- Crockery & saucepans – very poor/limited. We took some coffee, tea porridge etc – we struggled to prepare any hot drinks/simple breakfast due to a lack of bowls, cups & glasses! For a self catering option they should have these basics surely!??
- It was quiet by the pool until about midday when the inevitable loud music was played. I don’t mind a bit of Jessie J played in the background but by mid afternoon Euro techno Pop at full blast is not my scene – Sorry I’m an old grumpy 46 year old!!

Luckily the Gumbert Beach front is a (quiet) haven of comfortable loungers, sandy beach & cooling seas. I can recommend the Hotel Ba Ba (Thomas Cook hotel like the Queens Resort). The sun loungers are free as long you order drinks/food from their bar. The staff at the Ba Ba were not pushy at requesting drinks orders so we were able to relax.

A lot of the restaurants seemed to be competing with the all inclusive resorts by serving all variations of food – Turkish, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican etc. thus they were jack of all, but master of none. However in Gumbet I can recommend The Royal (next to the Queens Resort) & The Shaghai - both on the main road so can be a bit noisy. Also the The Angel down on the beach (nice setting/sunset)

For better restaurants we had to go further a field – In Bodrum I would recommend The Place and Blanca (on the sea front with views of the Castle) also La Villa in Turgutreis.

Our Best Beach: Bitez beach (the next bay over from Gumbet) was great – a quieter resort, but sun loungers crowded together
Our Best Night Out: Into Bodrum: Shops, Marina, Restaurants & Castle!
Our Best Trip: Turgutreis: Saturday market is interesting. Make sure you go to the real/local one as well as the tourist one selling fake goods!
Our Best Restaurant – Blanca in Bodrum more expensive, but food, wine & the views were good
Our Best Experience: Visiting Bodrum Castle / using the inexpensive Dolmus buses to visit Bitez, Turgutreis

Room Tip: Higher Floors at the back of blocks are quieter, however it depends who else is staying. If its youn...

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for two weeks, got home yesterday. What can i say, the hotel is probably the best we have ever been too. Don't have one complaint! (apart from having to come home). The staff are absolutely brilliant and me and Jack are very much missing them! the location is brilliant not far from the beach or shops/bars. The food at the resort is amazing, and comes pretty quickly! The room was lovely also. What makes this hotel so good is the staff... I have never been to a hotel where the staff have been so kind and friendly, they pretty much become your friends. Cannot wait to go back and see everyone!

We have just returned home from a week in Gumbet!!!!
This was a lovely hotel, staff were mega friendly, rooms were great and very spacious for 2 people!! Free wifi if you get a voucher number from reception!
We had breakfast at the hotel every morning and was cheap and good food!!
We didn't use the pool as prefer the beach, but it looked clean! Although people get up early every morning to put their towels out!!
Not far to walk to bar street and the endless bars and Resturants!
We paid the extra for Air con and was certainly worth it!!

Resort is nice with plenty to do if you want a quiet night or a lively night!!
Best meals were Divers restaurant (just off bar street) and Mandarin garden just yards from the hotel! Wasn't keen on the Royal (next to the hotel)
1 thing we werent keen on was you can't walk 10 yards without being hassled but thats part and parcel of Turkey!
Fave bar was the Outback Aussie surf bar, don't hassle you to come in, good music and fab Mojitos!
We used a couple of different areas on the beach but found the area in front of the Baba Hotel to be the best, sunbeds are free if you buy drinks!! Everywhere else they hassle you all day long to eat!

Room Tip: Had read not to have a room by the pool area as noisy, but we never found this a problem!!!

The staff were absolutely fantastic. The resort was very clean and was cleaned everyday without fail. The manager is very friendly and welcoming as are all the staff! Close to the beach without being too loud. Great family hotel but it's not too far from "bar street" making it ideal for youngsters as well. The food was outstanding in the hotel itself and its surrounded by good restaurants! All in all a great holiday and I'd definitely recommend!

Stayed for 2 weeks with a friend in June 2012, self-catering. A great hotel, rooms cleaned daily and staff are lovely and treat you like friends. No hassling or anything negative to say really. I do agree with the reviews that state that sunbeds need to be claimed via a towel, ideally before 9am. However, we simply took it in turn to get up each morning and it was not a problem. Fantastic location with the beach in one direction (2 minute walk) and bars and restaurants in the other direction (from doorstep and beyond). Would recommend a meal at Mandarin Garden, The Royal (next door) and Our House. Desperate to book up at Queen Resort again ASAP!

Just spent 2 weeks in the queen resort... Had the best holiday of our lives!! The staff are really friendly and entertaining, the rooms were of a very high standard and were cleaned every day! Linen was changed every day too which is great! The pool area is lovely... One thing though, you have to get up early (7.30-8) to reserve a sun lounger!! This wasn't a problem for us though and was well worth it.
There are bars and restaurants very nearby which offer a range of food and drinks and the beach is 2 minutes walk away, literally!!
We will definitely be going back to this hotel, hopefully before the season ends!! Michelle and Laura

Came back from queens early hours this morning after 10 days..... one word amazing :)
i went with my boyfriend, mam and step dad, rooms basic but thats what you expect with self catering, room was spotless all the way through the holiday, pool and pool side always clean and tidy no dirt to be seen anywhere, staff all friendly never to hard for them to say good morning, more so jonny bravo and MJ cant do enough for you, funny guys who like to have a laugh and always know how to make you smile cant fault them, going to miss them loads.
as for food queens they do food and its not expensive 7tl for a burger which is under £2 comes with chips and salad, drinks cheap too, a pint of beer (which is more than a pint) is 5tl less than £2 cant fault it, cocktails 9tl £3 each still not a bad price, the royal next door is good also for food and is on your doorstep next door to queens, same again not pricey £10 roughly for filet steak, £2 for a pink and same for cocktails as queens, staff in royal also cant do enough for you always checking your ok, and if u like banter then thats the place for you to go.
entertainment not great in royal as we went during the euros (football) so it was every night, but we could guarantee MJ and Jonny to keep us happy and entertained :)
would recomend it to anyone who is looking for a quiet holiday but also enjoy a bit of banter, would go back tomorrow if i could.
didnt have a problem with sun beds, although some young couple coming down at 12 noon complaining no beds, what do you expect to find coming down at 12?
beach 5mins max walk, chingle beach tho lets it down and the beds are on top of each other and u get hassled, so my advice would be stay in hotel, no hassle, bags of room and nice and relaxing.
we went on a night out in bar street 10min walk from queens, jonny bravo came with us to look after us, really expensive fish bowl 50tl £18,,,,,,,,,, unless you have a lot of money and willing to spend it dont go to bar street stupid money to pay
Really have not got a bad word to say about queens or the staff, only downfall was that i had to come home :(

Room Tip: rooms toward rear of hotel quieter, although after a certain time music is turned down, i was at rea...
