Myself and 8 of my mates (all 18) decided to celebrate the end of A-Levels by going on a trip that offered great nightlife, a good variety of activities and a chance to meet lots of new people, all at a relatively cheap price.
With the strength of the euro at the time, we decided to go to Gumbet/Bodrum where the exchange rate to Turkish Lirre was more favourable. We had originally planned to go to Bodrum most nights and initially thought our hotel's location was not great. However, on arrival it became clear to us that Gumbet has a lot to offer as well.
A fantastic range of quality nightclubs and bars are located no ore than 5 minutes walk away. A wide range of quality shops, restaurants and chemists are even closer. Everywhere is free to get into in Gumbet whilst most places in Bodrum do. Halicarnas (Europe's biggest open-air nightclub), for example, sounds great in principle but costs nearly £20 to get in. We didn't bother but others told us it was very good. Bodrum is generally a lot more upmarket and is therefore a lot more expensive and this understandably seems to deter fellow young tourists like ourselves who can all be found partying on Bar Street in Gumbet. I had expected the nightlife to bring with it a few dangers, particularly in terms of getting in a fight or having something stolen but i have to say that none of us experienced or heard of anyone experiencing anything like this. Everyone seemed very friendly, tolerant and relaxed.
I would thoroughly recommend visiting 'The Royal' restaurant located literally on the doorstep of the hotel which, although service can be quite slow at busy times (we once waited over an hour for our food), provides a wide variety of quality dishes and exceptionally friendly and good humoured staff.
The resort's rooms were ideal as well. Each one contains a separate room with two beds whilst the main area has a fold out sofa which tuns into a double-bed. This made it ideal to have 3 people per room.
We didn't utilise the limited self-catering facilities much. Partly due to a lack of being able to purchase any ingredients without catching a bus to a supermarket a little way out of town. If you really do want to cook, a bus is 2.5 TL per journey and come quite frequently. The nearest supermarket is a Carrefour. Going round as a group, though, it's amazing the deals some restaurant owners will give you. Food is reasonably priced anyway but on one day we managed to negotiate a deal so that all 9 of us got free garlic bread starter, free ice cream dessert and 4 free fishbowls of cocktails (approximately 12 litres). All we had to pay was £6 for a pizza!
The swimming pool is of good size, temperature and aesthetics although be sure to go down early to get a sun lounger.
The resort is still good value for money but be aware that you will be asked at the start if you'd like to pay an extra 10TL a day for air-conditioning and 5TL a day for a safe. Both are recommended. The only other downsides i can think of to the hotel are that the beds leave a lot be desired in terms of comfort but when you come back drunk i guess it doesn't really matter. Also, if you like to go to sleep before 12 then you might find the bar downstairs a bit noisy and possibly some of the younger guests a bit loud as well.
Overall then, a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a good, fun, cheap holiday, particularly as a group.

My partner age 43, our 14yr old daughter & I age 52 stayed at Queen resort from 10th June - 17th June & from the second we arrived & booked in at reception we were treat like royalty. johnny bravo greeted us with a big smile & a complimentary cocktail, whilst our cases were taken to our room number 410, this I hasten to add was at 04.30 in the morning.
The room itself was spotlessly clean & maintained to a high standard throughout our stay by our lovely cleaner who changed our bedding & towels every day . The only noise we ever heard was from the rooster in the field next door & the cat that patrols the hotel grounds & NO we didn`t have to get bladdered to enjoy a good nights sleep as some people have suggested.
We had at least one meal at the hotel everyday & the quality of the food was superb & at a very reasonable price.
The hotels pool was well kept & there was always someone about cleaning up any litter .

What really makes this place a terrific hotel to stay at is the staff: Johnny, Kadim, Memo, Billy, Kevin just can`t do enough for you, they work their butts off trying to make sure that you have a good holiday & have everything that you need. Thank you guys we love ya.
During our stay we attended two "speciality nights" Turkish night & Ladies night & we would recommend both as we had a great laugh although some people may not like the turkish food & some of the entertainment is a bit cheesy.
On the night we left the guys all took time to come over & say bye & Johnny & a couple of the others came to reception & waved us off. We exchanged e-mail addresses with some & I am pleased to say we have all so far kept in touch .
We were sad that we only had a week but have promised that we will return next year for a fortnight, not something we normally do as there are alot of places that we want to see.
We would go back tomorrow if we could.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

10th visit to Queen Resort. Rooms are modern, clean and ample for two with lounge and separate bedroom/bathroom. Helpful staff with good facilities - pool, bar, food. Good location - not far from beach and town centre (5 mins walk to both) but far enough to be just outside the party atmosphere in the centre.
Gumbet is a busy resort in high season, particulary with Brits. Wide choice of bars and restaurants - try Divers restaurant, just off Bar Street. Use Gumbet as a centre to travel around the Bodrum penisula. The local bus service (dolmus) is excellent, taking you into Bodrum as the hub for travel to less developed resorts. Get a map and try Gumusluk, Yahsi or Akyarlar for a day away and evening meal, or Bitez (next cove) for an evening meal. The dolmus from Gumbet will take you to the top of the hill above Bitez, then walk down, or take a taxi for about £5. Don't miss Bodrum itself with its restaurants and shops. Also fascinating with its Crusader Castle and tomb of King Mausolus - one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
For golfers, there's a five hole & practice facility in Ortakent and a full championship course at Tuzla (Vita Park, pay & play available, about 20 mins north of Bodrum on the road back to Bodrum/Milas airport).
Finally, if you want the best table, learn three words in Turkish. Pratically no visitors try, so you'll put a smile on host's face! Hello (merhaba), good evening (iyi aksamlar, pronounced ee ak sham lar) and thank you (tesekkur ederim, pronounced tesh ee koor ed er im).
