“GREAT, GREAT Hotel”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

We have just come back from spending a week at Samara. A beautiful hotel with only a couple of minor observations that could be improved. First the positive:
Immaculately clean - the rooms are perfectly clean as are the restaurants and kitchens.
The grounds are well tended and planted with a wide variety of flowering shrubs.
Plenty of bars with only an average wait of two minutes to get a drink. Inclusive drinks to 2am which is useful as most other hotels finish at 12am.
Main restaurant food is really good. Wide variety, well presented and extremely tasty. Beef (which melts in the mouth), chicken, fish, imaginatively presented vegetables. Lovely. No complaints.
Water sports on the beach. Free pedallo's, canoes etc. The jet bikes (which are not free) are great fun and pretty quick topping out at about 50mph, which on water is QUICK!
Plenty of sun beds with no need to race down to save. Nice private beech which is sandy. You can also put your beds on the grass which is just a few yards from the beech if you don't like sandy feet....
The health spa is amazing with free use of the gym and inside pool. Massages and beauty treatments have to be paid for but oh my word.....what amazing massages. Wonderful, floating on air afterwards. I had to have another toward the end of the week.
The only real room for improvement is the time they serve dinner. It starts at 7pm and finishes at 9.30pm. That means you have to be off the beach at 7.30 in time to get changed and ready for dinner. The sun is still hot then - if they served dinner till 11pm - you could easily sunbath until 9pm. Still that is the only small 'grumble'.
We shall be going back in October!!!!

We stayed for 5 nights and had a great time. The hotel staff is very attentive and the service in impeccable. They are constantly cleaning up and checking in. The room was nice and clean and surprisingly quiet (there are lots of animations that sometimes go later into the night). The open buffet is convenient, but the food isn't amazing. In general, Turkish food is fresh and delicious and the buffet left something to be desired. The terrace restaurant is great, though.

This is a wonderfully comfortable, unassuming beach resort. Not crass or overwhelmingly decorated in gold and glitz. The rooms were spacious, with modern furniture, bathroom and tv. I had the most fantastic week there. The staff was incredible and speak fluent French and many spoke Dutch, as the hotel caters to French, Belgian, and Dutch families. Even though, I went as a single person for rest and relaxation, it was very fun to have the excitement and energy of children around. The food was international, with many Turkish dishes, which was very nice.
The only drawbacks were the spa, which I went to for a traditional Hamman scrub and massage, and for a full-body massage. Unfortunately, it's not very quiet or restful, since there is only one Hamman for both sexes and children are permitted in the spa area. And it's a very rushed atmosphere. Not enough massage staff, so again not really a relaxing experience.
The other drawback was the fact that there was only internet service in a few public areas. No WIFI in the rooms or outside or in many common areas of the hotel. Having WIFI in the rooms, and all over the resort should be standard today.
But, as I say I would go back tomorrow, if I could!

Room Tip: Next time, I will ask for a room not looking the big outdoor lounge area. It's where everyone g...

the hotel was very nice but rather busy food was first class as was the service and was very very clean our stay was spoilt by the awful bedroom that we were given and we paid for an upgrade, the room was small as was the bathroom the bed was rock solid the tv was no larger then 14inches mini bar only had water in it, would stay again but would like to stay in a room like they show on the website.

Room Tip: check first as our room was terrible and we were advised to upgrade to a Bungalow room via booking w...

Writing this review whilst relaxing by the pool, couldn't ask for much more from a relaxing holiday. The hotel grounds and rooms are spotless, our room had a large balcony which got the sun in the morning. The staff were very polite and helpful and there was a variety of foods and something to suit everyone. The animation team work extremely hard and make such an effort with everyone, playing games like mini golf and name that tune by the pool. Had a Turkish bath at the spa which is a must and you have to try the cocktails ! As per previous reviews we were the only British people in the hotel but that didn't effect us as the staff spoke enough English to understand and the music/entertainment etc was mixed.

A very lovely hotel maintained to excellent high standards. The beach and pool areas are gorgeous. Felt quite a bit out of it as we were the only English people bar one other couple. This resulted in us feeling a bit left out of all that was going on. Into our week we came across a young waiter called Hasan who looked after us during all of our meals. In addition to this a barman who was nice enough to remember what we liked to drink and kept the drinks flowing. We visited the spa and had a Turkish bath which was amazing, I would recommend this for a bit of fun. A fab evening was spent in the al a carte roof top restaurant where a lovely guy called Douglas looked after us. If your looking for a quiet place to simply lay by the pool or beach then this is for you. Nothing to do within walking distance and evening entertainment was not the best I'm afraid.

We had previously stayed at the next door hotel, Club Isil, and had been very impressed with its quality and location. We chose Samara as it had an indoor pool and we fancied a change not realising exactly where it was. The staff were all very friendly and helpful ( and could speak English at even a very basic level). The location is beautiful set in a lovely bay with clear water and a sandy beach which would be ideal if you were travelling with a young family. We travelled early in the season and the weather was variable. Indeed we arrived in the rain! As other reviewers point out it is predominantly a French/ Belgian/ German hotel which means that smoking is a real issue. There are only 8 non smoking rooms in the whole hotel and I suspect that the best rooms are kept for the European clientele. having said that out room was the best room we have had in Turkey and far more akin to rooms in good hotels in the Canaries. The air conditioning worked perfectly well and was quiet. Having said that the walls are made of paper and in high season I would be wary if noisy neighbours. We were located in room 439 which had a huge balcony overlooking a corridor and very close to the amphitheatre which, again, I would suspect would be very noisy in high season. The entertainment ended by about 10.30 so it didn't bother us at all. The grounds a lovely and although the pool is cold it is wonderful when you get in and the sea is even better (and warmer). As I have said the weather was not that hot and the were no blue children as others have reported and frankly everyone was having a lovely time. We didn't partake in the entertainment or activities laid on but the staff didn't pester you. And it all looked good fun. We pulled loungers onto the grass and there was plenty of space and we could avoid the smokers blowing their fumes all over you. In comparison to the Isil there are plenty of bars and no problem with queuing for drinks and plenty of choice. They do have a tenancy to charge extra for a lot of things though. There was no local Baileys type liqueur ( there was in the Isil) no fresh orange juice unless you paid 8 Tl for it (again included at the Isil) and no Bloody Mary even though vodka was available no tomato juice. Wine was severed by the glass at meal times and sometimes the wait was a little excessive even when the hotel was not full. Also beware they seem to keep the red wine in a fridge and it was not pleasant drinking chilled red wine. We asked for it warm and that seemed to help but it was a bit ad hoc if it arrived at room temperature. The wine itself was fine and seemed to be reasonable quality. The food as everyone has said was lovely and plenty of choice. Just make sure you visit the chefs cooking fresh produce rather than relying on the vats in the middle. However no fresh eggs to make omelettes and no yoghurt pots which gave the overall feeling that they were trying to cut costs? As the wether was a little inclement I booked a Turkish massage. Wow what an experience. I am not sure whether I would call it relaxing as the massage itself is powerful to say the least but a real treat and worth every penny. In fact I went back for a second one before I came home. The guy who looked after me was brilliant and I wish he was closer to home as I would certainly see him regularly as I reckon he would cure all sorts of trapped/ stiff joints etc.
We went in early May and spent the week relaxing, reading and enjoying the peace and quiet. It was very reasonable (we used Travel Republic as we always do) and everything worked perfectly. We like to try different places and hotels and I am very fussy but would put this hotel right up there for quality and price. I have recommended it to my daughter for a family holiday with her 3 year old as I think the hotel caters for every age group and anyone who visits will have a really good holiday. Not 5 star by our standards but a lovely hotel and a lovely holiday and we would certainly go back and visit again.
