“Gorgeous, beautiful”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

The only problem with this hotel is that I didn't get to stay there longer. My room was beautiful and big (not much of a view, but it did have a water view). Great service from a helpful, pleasant staff. Sarah (guest relations) is fantastic - had great suggestions for dinners out, driving tour itineraries, and managed to solve problems for us. She also provided a private art tour of the adjacent sister property, which is even more beautiful.

The art is unique - lots of Turkish artists who work in very different styles and media. Very easy access to Bodrum from the hotel - 10 minutes to the castle. Friends stayed in one of the oceanfront rooms - very pretty and direct views of the water. I checked out the rooms in the sister property (name escapes me!) and they, too, are great. Two stories, very cool design, great art.

The on-premises restaurant is very good - some local cuisine, all good. There's also a very good beach restaurant right next door - pick your fish and they cook it up. Very, very fresh food, good local beer and wine.

This property is very highly recommended.

Room Tip: If you can, get one of the few direct ocean-facing rooms. Beautiful.

We had our wedding at the Casa last month and it was nothing short of spectacular. As a hotel, the property is beautiful, unique, artistic, intimate yet still has the resources of a larger hotel. We stayed in the Residence part, which housed amazing artwork all throughout the hotel. This part has a slightly more boutique feeling than the Family Resort, which is also nice and more a traditional hotel. The rooms are all quite spacious (all suites, really) and the restaurant is top notch. This is worth remembering since the rates are a bit high. Our wedding itself was very well managed and organized by the hotel staff, who were attentive and very full-service. Most of our wedding guests, including our families, stayed there and everyone was very extremely happy with the hotel. We will always remember the Casa.

Admittedly, there is very little we can say about Casa Dell'Arte that hasn't already been said by tens of other reviewers, but here's our story nonetheless. We decided on spending our honeymoon in Bodrum and traveled all the way from Washington, DC in pursuit of calmness, tranquility, beauty, zenness, charm, impeccable service, and delectability. We spent days meticulously reading about each hotel in Bodrum and given the wide array of choices, it seemed all hotels tried to cater to our expectations. But upon venturing into Casa Dell'Arte's website, we felt we had scored. Not only did they seem to combine all we were looking for in a romantic pristine non-pretentious but elegant honeymoon escape, they were original, unique, and artistically inclined. The photos looks absolutely excusite. Given the very few number of rooms at the hotel, we felt that even at full capacity, it would still seem private. And then we arrived and it was even better than we thought. Arriving late in the evening, we were met by a soft-spoken, pleasant and delightful receptionist who informed us that we had been upgraded, in honor of our honeymoon, from a deluxe suite to a fantasy suite. We did not know what that meant until we walked into the room. The absolutely spectacular room had a massive raised jacuzzi in the living room that looked onto the sea. The furniture was terrific, combining antique wooden chests, cabinets, and desk. The couch was very comfortable and the big screen TV made it all the more hospitable. Every single window in the room looked onto a mesmerizing view--the open sea, or the beautiful pool. Literally our heart dropped the moment we walked into the room. We later discovered that by upgrading us, the hotel was forgoing half the price of that room. If this isn't ****** service, I dont know what is. As exhausted as we were from the length of the trip, we couldn't help but wander the premises. The number of spots were you can lounge around cannot be surveyed. From comfy couches and oversized pillows to chaise lounges and beach sofas, even a massive umbrella-ed raised platform bed, you could literally lose yourself in this fantasy world of adult relaxation.

Once we were done surveying the scene, we walked along the beach to the restaurant next door, and literally had the best meal we've had in Turkey (and we've been to Istanbul several times, Cesme, Ankara and elsewhere). The next door restaurant is Gonca Balik, where the fresh catch of the day is grilled to perfection and the mezzes are absolutely deletable. We enjoyed it so much we kept coming back, especially for their semolina ice-cream dessert (irmik tatli).

The service at the hotel was delightful. Never too overbearing but exceedingly friendly and welcoming. The house manager Sarah is a super easy-going person who is always roving the property making sure every guest is satisfied and content. She is extremely helpful and volunteers very useful information. She was kind enough to take us on a tour of the art work throughout the property. The gallery/museum includes a spectacular collection of classical and contemporary Turkish art by local notables all presented with a sharp curator's eye. We are no art historians or collectors but having spent hours at the MoMA, Met, Louvre, Uffizi, and elsewhere, we could tell this collection was assembled with an eye for originality and aesthetics, and in some cases, political, economic and cultural messages. We also learned that many of the pieces in each of the rooms are originals, bringing the cost of each room to astronomic rates and accentuating one's experience of absolutely luxury. Lonely Planet described it perfectly by saying that it looks like you were staying at your billionaire art-collecting aunt's mansion. I would add, and she's gone away during your visit because it does seem like the entire hotel is your personal playground.

Besides all these perks, one thing we learned was in short supply in Bordum and especially Torba, is quietness. Casa Dell'Arte is virtually alone in being able to provide a quiet environment. The next door Voyage hotel is an absolute madhouse. A colossal enterprise with tacky decor and an assembly-line of guests who are processed like a factory, it is painful to the eyes and ears. Every time we walked past the hotel and its crammed beachfront property we thanked our instincts for having chosen Casa Dell'Arte's calm, spacious and private beach front. That is where we spent most of our days. Lazing on the beach, taking a dip, reading a book, kayaking occasionally, then coming back and lazing, repeat, repeat, repeat etc. The breakfasts at Casa Dell'Arte were extremely fresh and delicious. The Aegean breakfast including an array of delicious cheeses, breads, salad, veggies, and freshly made local jams were accented with made-to-order eggs, including our now favorite Menemen, an egg scramble with tomato, onion, and green pepper. We could not get enough breakfast, especially since we ate it every morning in front of the stunning blue waters of the sea and the sounds of the soft breeze running through the palm trees.

We enjoyed Casa Dell Arte so much, we decided to delay our flights back to Istanbul and stay another two nights. Enter METIN, a terrific young man who was kind enough to make calls for us with our airline to change our reservation which took him an entire afternoon and brought us the detailed itinerary to our beachside couches!! As we tried to extend our stay, we learned that our room was already reserved for those two nights. Enter FEYZA, the sales and marketing manager, who actually tried to upgrade the incoming guests so we can keep our favorite room! Honestly, in the hundreds of hotels we've stayed in 32 countries, this SERVICE IS PRACTICALLY UNHEARD OF! Upgrading clients to get other client into a room that they themselves have been upgraded to!?! Seriously?! Out of control!!! Unfortunately, the guests were smart enough not to forgo the room so we had to relocate. The staff literally opened up 5 rooms for us so we can choose which we prefer and we did. The second room was a lovely garden suite. Spacious, clean and again with lovely decor and art. We repeated our regimen for another two days.

Our flight wasn't until 9pm in the evening, so the hotel staff allowed us a super late check out so long as no one was checking in that day. We literally checked out in time to head to the airport, 730 pm at no extra charge.

And this just a glimpse into what makes Casa Dell'Arte the best hotel in Torba and likely throughout Bodrum. We will almost certainly return to this little piece of paradise, possibly on anniversaries, unless they just give us a complimentary suite to live in! hehe

I will put the review into context.

My girlfriend and I shopped around prior to booking to stay in Turkey. As it was our first holiday away, we Ideally we were looking for a destination that was luxurious, all inclusive and hot and sunny in September, preferably a little boutique hotel. We used the sites Kenwood (bad customer service - I will be reviewing them seperately) and Destinology (whom we should have stuck with). We looked at safari in Kenya, Galle, Maldives, Mauritius, Grenada. Only considering the nicest hotels. Unfortunately as we were mucked about by the travel agent it only gave us a week to arrange our holiday. Also the tropical climate September wasn't the best time to visit any of these places, so we 'settled' for Bodrum. I was given the idea for Casa Dell'Arte through the Mr&Mrs Smith website and booked the hotel and flights seperately through expedia. Obviously as our location changed, as did our budget and board basis, with a view to our luxury holiday next year.

HOW GLAD I AM WE CHOSE TURKEY AND CASA DELL'ARTE!

Please consider that there are two Hotels linked. The family hotel and the residence hotel. Due to price, we opted to stay in the family part. I was obviously concerned that a couple's holiday in a family hotel could be a disaster, however was thinking that as the new school term had started there would hopefully be no children. I can recall seeing two! Even so, I would think that even in peak season as the hotel have activities for kids I think they would not encroach on your romantic time.

Review:

Negatives.
I will start with the negatives as there really weren't many. I'm only including them as constructive criticism so the hotel may fix a couple of minor things that will (in my opinion) make the hotel perfect.

1. Continental breakfast. Being from the UK I am not a fan of the continental breakfast anyway. The one thing that I would improve here would be the inclusion of a toaster. Also maybe a little variety with the hot dishes from day to day. The fruit on offer was fantastic - the figs were like jam.
2. A dodgy plug socket in the room. It looked as if a previous guest had managed to pull the socket from the wall and it had been repaired badly.
3. Please include a sentence at the bottom of the restaurant and bar menus 'a 12% service charge will be added to the bill'. I had already read reviews so was aware this would happen, however some guests may not be aware.
5. If the cleaning staff could be more mindful of the toiletries they stock up in the room. We had loads of shampoo but only a few shower gels.
4. If you could somehow manage to heat the pool. Obviously I understand this would be expensive for the hotel.

DO NOT be dissuaded by any of the above when booking. All really minor issues.

Positives.
1. The family hotel felt just like a boutique hotel. Quiet, relaxed and exclusive.
2. The service was impeccable. One of the reviews I read on the hotel surprised me. Maybe they had an unlucky week. It was my birthday the day after we arrived and my girlfriend managed to arrange through Feyza at the hotel a beautiful birthday cake from a local wedding cake baker, a private boat trip, a lovely meal in the restaurant in the residence side of the hotel. The staff were all incredibly friendly and we felt really looked after.
3. The location and privacy of the private beach. When you walk along the beach and pass the Voyage hotel with loads of sunbeds crammed together, you really appreciate being able to sit on a bed on the lawn or the jetty and be able to have a conversation without 20 people evesdropping.
4. The rooms were comfortable and clean. For me I enjoy nice hotels, even though when I stay in them I only use them for the 4 S's. I thought the room was perfect for our needs.
5. Distance to Bodrum. A 3Tl bus ride or 30Tl taxi. Being only 20 mins away it was no hardship to go into town in the evening.

All in all, our stay was perfect. I'd like to thank the staff and the hotel for having a big part to play in having the best time. We will definitely be returning maybe to the residence (just to see if we missed something) or maybe in a few years to the family side when we can make use of the child activities.

Great location in Torba, away from the crowd in Bodrum. Pleasing architecture, well decorated with art. The pool and the bar are great places to spend the day relaxing. My room was spacious and well equipped. Because it is in Torba, I was able to walk to other restaurants, or take the mini-bus into Bodrum. I ate one meal at the evening restaurant next door and found that the food was excellent. The service throughout the hotel was of a high international standard. I can't wait to go back.

Sarah, the customer rep on this property is amazing! She made us feel like VIPs and set us up with a private champagne art tour of the fabulous collection spread on every wall in the two buildings for a friend's birthday. Every employee stayed slightly out of sight line, but getting their smiling attention required just a nod or raised finger.

Internet access was spotty at best, but we needed to relax. Huge rooms with living areas and sleek glass-featured bathrooms. Their beach bar was heavenly, as was the pool area where you were presented with difficult choices like "bed, chair, lounge or pillows?". Just enough English spoken to make one secure, but many blushing moments from local help explaining that since they do not understand you, they will just bring many things to make you happy. Bottles of wine were accompanied by small plates of amazing figs, peaches and plums were only topped by the fast response to request for an iron and help with the closet safe.

Location just minutes from Bodrum, a beautiful and unassuming little harbor town, taxi stand 20 meters away and the help just downright attractive, both men and women! Easy to find driving or by cab about 20 minutes for the airport which serves Istanbul by big jets.

I would go back here and I do not say that about many hotels.

Thank you to the owners and to Miss Sarah!

Torba is a beautiful, quiet and unspoiled village of Bodrum.
We stayed there from Monday 27 August to Sunday 2 September . We had the impression that all the managers of Casa Dell Arte were on leave! Very unprofessional staff struggled to cook and serve breakfast and lunch. The food was of the cheapest and worst quality.
The room was dark day and night. It was a first floor "garden suite" without a garden view, overlooking the grey wall of the building next door which was also a part of the Casa Resort. We couldn't open the windows because of the A/C unit noise ! The loud music of the wedding party until late at night was also very disturbing. Casa Dell Arte needs professional management to become a real "Luxury" resort.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the sea and/or swimmingpool might be better
