“Good value for money”
Reviewed 16 July 2010

First of all I would like to say I have no idea what the previous reviews are raving about. We stayed at the Alta Beach at the same time as the last reviewers yet feel it must have been at a different hotel than them as I would not agree with any of their complaints.

When we arrived at 5am we were greeted with a very warm welcome and shown our rooms immediately. There was a problem with one room as we had booked 2 rooms - 1 for a couple and the 2nd for 3 people. Both rooms had a double bed so we told reception that we would not accept the 2nd room and were told the hotel was fully booked but that another room would be ready for us by 2pm. True to their word we were offered a 2nd room with 3 single beds which was very suitable. Although most of the staff spoke little English, we had no problems communicating with any of them considering we spoke no Turkish and always found them very helpful, pleasant and good humoured.

The rooms: They were basic but very clean and were cleaned on a daily basis with fresh towels. The airconditioning worked perfectly in both rooms. Both had telephones which worked. Although it was advertised that hair dryers were in the rooms this was not the case but that didnt bother us as the weather was so hot our hair dried very quickly. The only problem we found was the small step leading into the bathrooms but it didnt take us long to remember they were there. One of our rooms had sea and marina views with small balcony. The 2nd room was nearer the nightclub but none of the people in that room found any problem with noise.

Food: The food was very varied and hot unless it was salad in which case I would have worried if the salad had been hot. Our daughter is a vegetarian and had plenty to choose from. The breakfast was not English but we were staying in TURKEY and suggest if you feel so strongly about wanting an English breakfast then maybe you should consider staying in England or maybe Spain. A good selection of deserts though we were surprised at the lack of fruit but the deserts more than made up for that. Tables were cleared very quickly for any guests that arrived later for their meals.

Drink: We have been on many A.I. holidays and always find the alcoholic drinks watered down but this was not the case at the Alta Beach. Wine was on tap day and night and, although it wasnt champagne standards, a person would be a fool to expect that at an A.I. hotel. The beer and spirits were of a good standard also. The soft drinks may have been a cheap brand but how many of us buy "named" products at home for the kids.

We booked our one week holiday through Travelrepublic for 5 of us and it cost 800 euro without the flights. We are from Ireland and had to book our flights separately. To expect the "Ritz" standard for that amount of money would be ludicrous and I have no doubt we probably paid more than anyone from the U.K. How anyone could blame the hotel for a 2 hour journey from the airport is amazing. Surely you should be taking that up with your travel provider. We had researched the holiday and found that the only way to travel from the airport was by a private taxi which cost 104e return for the 5 of us and took less than an hour. I am also surprised that the presence of a nightclub next to the hotel is somehow the hotels fault as this was only opened this year. There were certainly more than 20 sunbeds around the pool but the fact that greedy guests decided to put their towels on the beds after staff had cleaned around the pool at 7pm every night surely cant be the fault of the hotel. The only critisism we would have is the lack of entertainment especially for teenagers but the town is only a 10 min walk away and has plenty to do there.

We found the Turkish people very pleasant, friendly and respectful and would definately return to Turkey another time.

I would like to point out that I have no connection with the Alta Beach hotel other than being one of the guests that stayed for a week from 3rd-10th July. I have not been paid to write what I consider to be the truth and would like to add that if anyone expects a 5 star service for the price they will pay at the Alta Beach then they need to get real. We would definately recommend this hotel

How can people write that this hotel is clean and food nice and people helpful?
They have really got to be kidding!
We have just got back from a week's stay there and cannot be more pleased it's over. We were not the only people who had regretted booking this dump as we spoke to other couples who felt exactly the same.
I am struggling to think of positives to say as I am writing this so that clearly says it all!

We arrived after an arduous 2hr roller-coaster ride from the airport at about 6.30am to be greeted by a young guy who didn't speak english and just gave a confused frown when asked a question. He gave us keys and we were pointed to direction of the room. (the only way to our room was by tip-toeing on the puddled floor around the pool so you didn't slip which is very dangerous!)
Once we saw our room we just couldn't believe it. It was a proper dump! The door had been broken in to before and there was a big gap between the door frame and the door. (put it this way you didn't need a key to get in to it as a card poke in to the gap in the door was sufficient!)
It had 3 single beds( in spite of emailing them 3 times asking for a double bed), a balcony you couldn't sit on, a 5ft square bathroom with a 2inch step in the floor (dangerous) where the shower was, no hairdryer and air conditioning that didn't work properly! The room needed a good clean and proper renovation. Just a thin curtain across the window and door was not enough to block out the strong day light! (this turned out to be one of the oldest rooms with wooden windows and which had yet to be renovated.)

We went straight down to the desk to ask for another room and the young guy acted like he didn't understand english! we asked for someone else and another guy who spoke english just argued back with my husband saying 'we have no other room. the broken doorframe isn't a problem. you will forget about it when you wake in the morning'. He then disappeared and did not try to offer us a better room.

The next day we missed breakfast and had lunch and that was another BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. It was just cold slop. The salad and bread ok but flies all over them. Coffee was horrible. The food we soon realised did not get better, just worse! I ended up having very bad stomachache from the food and had a whole day without food as a result to settle my stomach. We ate in town mostly which was fairly expensive and frustrating since we had paid for AI.
There was no table tennis table which we like playing and no pool table except for something that resembled one but had no pockets and was never used by anybody.

The staff on the desk were really unfriendly. The all pretended they didn't speak english and looked at you with a blank expression when you asked them the basic of questions. There doesn't seem to be proper management set in place and it looks like staff are unmanaged. When we asked a lady if she could get someone to attend to the broken door she said she would put it in the book to be done by 'technical services'. At that point the guy from the first night arrived at the desk and on seeing us he said in english 'what now??'. We couldn't believe the rudeness of the man and realised that customer services doesn't exist at this hotel! He said that he knew the problem with the door and it had been like that for awhile and it was ok! They never did fix it for the whole week we were there.

This is not really a beach hotel as the so-called beach over the main road is the poorest beach in town with hardly any beds and can only be described as a makeshift dirty sand pit which makes our beaches at home look gorgeous! Best beach was in town where we spent all our time.

The last resort was when we arrived back in our room late one day to see no towels in the bathroom and on informing the main desk we were told that they had run out of towels and they would send some up in 1/2hr.(I asked them to promise this and they said most certainly they would be sent) It was then 8pm! We never did see the towels that night or get an apology. We had to use our dirty beach towels to dry ourselves. They acted as though they knew nothing about it when we complained the next day. No towels arrived until the following evening. This is a basic thing anyone would expect from even a 1star hotel!
If you like loud turkish music around the pool from 10am to late evening followed by boom boom boom until 4am from the town's main nightclub next door...if you like staff that are ignorant , food that is served cold everyday and dirty pool area with sunbeds that are filthy and on their last legs...dangerous pool area with wet floor and bar too close to pool for health and safety...no pool beds as they are all taken by the night before.. dirty communal toilets with urine all over the floor...THEN THIS IS THE HOTEL FOR YOU!
We do question if some of the positive reviews are genuine as it beggars belief how they can love it so much. I think tripadvisor need to check the authenticity of the source sometime as it could save alot of us from wasting our money and time!
Only positive was a great boat-trip and weather and met some nice people.
DO NOT STAY HERE. TRY A HOTEL ON BED AND BREAKFAST AS WOULD NOT DO ANOTHER ALL INCLUSIVE IN TURKEY AGAIN.

Location brilliant but don't be deceived.
Reception- Dont speak adequate english and are not helpful.
Rooms are basic but clean. Toilet broke repeadedly. Flush would not work. Repaired by hotel staff but same problem occurred every day.
Entertainment : (that's a laugh) The entertainment team: Jimmy and Emma spend thier time smoking, sitting around and dancing. From 10 am to midnight it is like an 18 to 30's holiday. loud dance music and Akon's greatest hits on repeat. Don't think that you can relax and read a book by the pool unless you have ear plugs. I asked Jimmy if there was any chance of having the music turned down, or (even better) off. He laughed and said it was 'impossible'. It was like attending a rave. On the odd occassion they played a communal game of darts, retrieving spoons thrown into the pool, and balancing on a surf board. Entertainment- Money for old rope!
Sunbeds are in short supply and if you return to the hotel at midnight all sunbeds are reserved for the next day as they all have towels on them.
Food: Breakfast- Not great if you don't like traditional Turkish food. A toaster would be welcome for English guests. Other meals were fine/ Plenty of food and reasonable choice.
Drinks: Soft drinks are Tesco value/Rola Cola. Beer was fine. The wine would be better used as vinegar on your chips. Vodka/Gin and Raki resemble paint stripper.
A nightclub has recently opened next door and the pounding from the music goes on till 5 am.
We bought cheap and we got it. Dont expect much and you wont be dissapointed.
We loved Turgutreis and would return but not to The Alta Beach.

me and my partner have just got back from the alta beach hotel on the 10th july 2010 I would not recomend this hotel to anyone as there was no english food what so ever however there is a salad bar. The rooms are extreamely small and very basic and very dirty and gruby. The Cleaner will come in every day but only to straighten bed sheets not to change bedding. I went to the room one afternoon to find the cleaner asleep in our bed. staff are very rude and unhelpfull. on the first we asked for a toaster we were informed it was broken and new one would be there in the morning 4 days later we still didnt have a toatser but were told daily we would get one in the morning so we had to eat out every morning at extra cost when we were all inclusive. pools very small only fits about 20 sunbeds round the pool however the pools are cleaned dailey. if you do go to this area i would recommend you eat at a place called la villa brilliant food reasonably priced. lovely arear very quite not many bars mainly restaurants. also there are very good boat trips we went on a boat called makin lovely food on the boat and brilliant day only 15.00 pp. unless you like staying in s**tt hole stay clear of this hotel.

We booked this hotel after checking here, and at 82% we thought we were onto a sure thing. All of the reviews bar 2 were good, and one bad added after we had booked.

I wish that review had been here before.

The hotel transfer, if booked with a travel company, takes 2+ hours including drop offs.

On arrival the hotel seemed O.K. clean surroundings, on the beach (across the road, with no safe crossing) and fairly well presented.

When shown the room, on the other hand (#7302) we were throughly dissapointed.
*No phone
*No fridge
*No hair drier
*No balcony
*twin beds (acceptable in most, but we specified with our booking, a double bed).
*Tiny bathroom/wet room, with badly working shower, water occasionally stopped for hours at a time
*Damp plastic-ey sheets with horrible top sheet (Which we couldn't sleep under and had to buy a sheet from the super market).
*Badly furnished, old smelly wardrobe (we couldn't store our clothes in it) and one small damp cupboard.

However the air conditioning worked and it was included in the price.

We went to reception to ask to see another room, bearing in mind this is 6 in the morning turkish time, and we had been travelling all night, to be told that there were no other rooms free and we could try again in 2 days.

We decided to try and get some sleep, my girlfriend had to sleep in her clothes because the bed was horrible.

FOOD.
On one hand, typical turkish A.I food (repetative and re-used daily ie. potato wedges for lunch=mashed potato for dinner).
On the other hand there is no excuse for food to constantly be served cold, and for the explanation to be, 'That's why the microwave is there.' The ONE microwave being a dirty old thing which took a long time to heat the smallest of meals.

Breakfast- the best meal of the day

Turkish breakfast - olives, bread, cheese, 'meat', honey, cereal, boiled eggs and deep fried bread (recycled from the day before), or scrambled eggs with yesterday's 'meat'/cheese.

Lunch-

Occasionally a good dish, the couscous was edible, and sometimes some form of pizza, chips or wedges, pasta-no sauce, chicken burgers, bean burgers??, bread, and a small selection of sweets.

Snack time- 2:30-ish (some days it never happens)
Second best meal of the day, Burgers and chips, served at the bar by a very good barman, but he is overcome with stress at this time of the day as he has to serve drinks and burgers/chips. Which come every five minutes so there are alot of people waiting.

After snack time there are sometimes sponge cakes, make sure you get there quick as all the pieces at the ends of the pan are usually burnt..

Dinner-
Much the same as lunch, cold and old. Edible if you close your eyes and hold your nose.

We chose to eat outside of the hotel on all but one night.

DO NOT DISPAIR if you have already booked, there are alot of nice turkish resteraunts around the back streets, slightly away from the beach, and typical turk-english places, a bit more expensive than other parts of turkey but still cheap and nice.

We ate in Gaziantep Kebap, 3 times in the week, twice in and one take away, a very nice kebab shop with very friendly staff, fanastic kebabs, and great pide. By the end of the week they knew us better than our local kebab shop.

The Bar-
The two bar men were great, very fast and friendly, limited english so no small talk, but still very good.

The spirits were local (produced for A.I hotels) standard which is usually served in these types of hotels. The easiest to drink out of all of the spirits was raki and ice/water, try this while you're out there it's a very good drink!

Don't be suprised if the wine/beer/ice/glasses RUN OUT. This happened a few times during our week and the beer took 3 hours to go back on, the wine took 2 days.

Unlike other A.I.'s we have stayed at, the hotel staff and bar staff were fine about the amount of drink you had, how many you ordered etc. which was nice for a change!

The Pool-

There is a larger pool set by the bar (this looks a lot bigger in the photos), were the 'entertainment' takes place. This pool is usually full of children and has loud music (turkish and english uncensored) and is very slippery. The sunbeds on this side were full every day. By the time we left there were people putting their towels out on the sunbeds at 6:30pm the day before!

There is a smaller (deeper 2m) pool located behind the bigger one (round the corner to the right) which most people did not know about until we told them, which was much quieter and nicer to sit around. We only knew about this pool because our room was near it.

The Beach-

The beach by the hotel is free, limited sunbeds, but if you get there before 10 there are usually some there. The sand is a bit dirty on all beaches in turgetreis, full of cigarette buts mostly. The beach is a nice break from the pool, very quiet and relaxing. rocky to begin with, but if you swim over them 5m it is nice and sandy and still quite shallow.

The 'Entertainment-

The entertainment team seemed to sit around doing nothing alot. They were friendly but didn't go out of their way to put on any nice evening entertainment, nothing at night time.

There was the occasional game such as 'Balance on the surfboard and try not to hit your head on the side of the pool when you fall off.', darts, a couple of swimming games. Most of this lasts less than half an hour.

This hotel would NOT BE GOOD FOR YOUNG CHILDREN.

Overall we would say do not pay more than £300 per person A.I (peak season) for a week here.
We had a good time we are easy going people but the hotel was not how it was described here and on the hotels own website.

There were very nice english guests there and we all made friends having a good moan about everything to do with the hotel, everyone had a story!

The weather was great, the drink flowed (most of the time), the surroundings were beautiful, the people we met were nice, we had a GREAT week.

But it's a shame that there weren't many REALISTIC reviews like ours to really judge this hotel by before we booked!

Stayed at the Alta Beach in early May. Never visted Turkey before so were unsure what to expect. Took a taxi from the airport to hotel - this was reasonably priced and proved very quick and effiicent.

Hotel was compact and room standard was basic but comfortable. Bathroom was small but practical with good shower. Rooms had airconditioning which was also very effective given the outside temperature was 30degrees and rising!

Food was very good - many Turkish dishes which were very tasty but each evening was a lucky dip as none of the dishes were labelled. Labelling would improve the choice dilemma. Heard a few complaints that a traditional British breakfast was not available however this did not affect us. There was always hot choices plus plenty yoghurt, fruit, etc.and lovely fresh bread too!

Hotel manager worked very hard to ensure all guests needs were met and the All Inclusive provided good value for money with the pool bar being well used during the day.

Hotel location was across the road from stunning modern marina where we had a fantastic meal in the clubhouse restaurant. Visited with newly made friends and we all agreed that the meal was 5 star at 3 star price! Tried the Armani cafe but it was overpriced with no atmosphere.

If you are a sun lover then we would recommend a boat day trip. We went on 'Thomas's boat' from the bay and had a great day. (Booked this directly at the bay and didnt use hotel rep as the prices were different). We sunbathed on the top deck whilst we sailed around the coast for the day. Opportunities to swim in the sea which was wonderful and lunch of chicken drumsticks and a great spaghetti on board. Plenty of cold drinks were available to purchase but check bar prices before you buy or take your own water/beer in a cool bag!

First trip to Turkey but I'm sure we'll be back and would be happy to stay at Alta Beach again.

We stayed at the Alta Beasch Hotel at the end of May, and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and really make you feel welcome. The maids work very hard and change the linen every day. The food was plentiful and varied, lovely salads and 3 / 4 hot dishes. The location is superb oppostie the new marina and lovely sunsets in the evening from the al fresco dining area. Its only a ten minute, flat, walk to the town. This was a cheap holdiay and we weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly suprised, for the money it is excellent. If you have not been to Turkey before (which I hadn't) be prepared to have some loose change ready for tips. On arrival the 'helpful' man who carried our cases into our room stood by the door looking blankly as I said thanks and bye to him 3 times before I realised he was not going to go without a tip! Be prepared to get hassled as you walk through the town, 2 - 3 men / boys to each bar / restaurant asking the same questions.. where are you from, if you would like to eat / drink at their bar etc . At the beginning of the holiday I thought they were doing it to be friendly but they all want to be your best friend so they can rip you off! Check the prices in the bars, and your bill, the more you have to drink the more they add on the bill. The boat trips are great but check out the prices of a few different ones. Overall the holiday was great, spoilt a bit by the hassle in the town, no complaints with the hotel, location, room, food, service, cleanliness. Book your transfers from the UK as the taxis are really expensive to the airport.
