We were in xanadu island in august and expecting a luxury escape where we can leave the kids in the mini club and have some spare time for ourselves. Our kids are 5 and 3 but we couldnt leave them in the mini-club. one was too young (they accept after4y.) and for the other one, it was too boring and you need to take her back for lunch and it is so far away that by the time you leave, it is time to take her back. they dont take the kids to the pool or to the beach they stay inside all day long and the mini club staff is not so energetic. The mini-restaurant next to the restaurant is a good idea but a staff is needed for that area otherwise kids want to eat there and you end up having to eat near them on small chairs and tables.
The beach is not sand, a kind of pebble beach which is not comfortable for kids and the sea is not suitable either. it is windy most of the time.
The buffet has many options but the food quality is avarage, you can not find some good quality cheese in the 'cheese section, neither a nice fish in the bbq at dinner.
The rooms were perfect, service avarage.
I have to say we attanded a very nice jazz concert on the saturday night.
Families with kids are not the target for this hotel. We would think different if we were a couple maybe.

This was quite an expensive holiday so I wanted to give a good review that would vindicate my decision to stay at Xanadu Island but unfortunately there were aspects of the holiday that let it down badly.
Our first problem was the room we were allocated. We arrived at 5.30am after leaving home at 3.30 the previous afternoon so all we wanted to do was get to the room and get some sleep.
I was initially concerned that the room we were shown to was on floor -1, underneath reception. The room (M104) was beautiful but upon opening the curtains to see the view I found the room had no balcony to speak of, only a railing about 30cm from the window. I had looked at the hotel's website before booking and it described the Courtyard Suite as "One-bedroom suite with FURNISHED BALCONY, bedroom with kingsize bed or twin beds, sitting area with twin sofa sleeper and bathroom with shower, bath, sink, toilet." (http://www.xanaduresort.com.tr/Island_EN/courtyard.aspx) so I was obviously not getting what I had booked. I returned to reception to ask for a room as described and was told to come back at 9am when a manager would be on duty. This in my opinion is not 5 star service where a major concern of a customer cannot be addressed immediately.
We had not unpacked so I returned to reception at 9am as requested in the same clothes I had been wearing for the last 18 hours. I spoke to Anna who was completely unsympathetic and looked upon my request for a room change as a major inconvenience. I was begrudgingly shown to another room (2127) which overlooked the front of the hotel and the car park, was underneath the main airconditioning unit and was next to a cleaners cupboard, but as it had the furnished balcony we use a lot on holiday and as I had lost the will to argue any further, we accepted the room. We were told we would have to get out of our first room immediately and sit in reception until they gave us permission to move into the second room. An hour later we were in our room but our luggage, despite reminders, did not arrive until 11.30am.
Once we had slept, showered and changed we found all the good things about the hotel; the pools, the crystal clear sea, the grounds, the views, the waiting staff (which bumped up the score for service), and the quality imported drinks (you don't find many AI hotels serving Remy Martin VSOP Champagne Cognac!) I had emailed the hotel in advance to say we were celebrating a wedding anniversary and on the day we had red roses, a bottle of sparkling wine and a cake delivered to the room, which was a very nice gesture.
The other major problem we had was the quality of the food. We have stayed in other 5 star AI hotels in Turkey (the last one was the Barut Lara Resort where they served Chateaubriand in one of their a la carte restaurants) and have been impressed by the quality and variety of food. Contrary to previous reviews we found the buffet food choice very repetitive; if you wanted a hot meal you could have veal, lamb or chicken that was boiled stewed or baked for lunch and dinner. The descriptions of the food varied from wierd (chicken shins fried with sesame) or wildly inaccurate (baked veal Hungarian style that was covered in beansprouts!) Fish was available sporadically and the bits that I tried were dry and not well filleted. I was looking forward to the barbecue in the evening but that also was a disappointment. The only time they served beef it was barbecued beef liver and some of the kebabs were cold and raw inside.
The desserts were stodgy and/or sickly, some consisted of what appeared to be angel delight and synthetic cream. The gateaux were frequently frozen inside which indicated to me that they were bought in rather than made fresh on the premises.
Breakfasts were pretty much a write off as a meal; the highlight for my wife was the day she had a fried egg on toast. Coffee was only available from vending machines, again not my idea of 5 Star facilities.
In conclusion, if this had been a hotel I had booked on a room only basis for fifteen hundred pounds less, if I had got the room that I had booked straight away and if I hadn't eaten at the hotel this would have been a five star review.

Room Tip: Request a room with a furnished balcony

We've just come back from a wonderful holiday at the Xanadu. On arrival we were told that our room had been upgrade from a courtyard suite to an elegance suite. This inself was a lovely start to our holiday. The views from our room were simply stunning. The rooms were extremely spacious and our bathroom was the size of the bedroom itself. The food was superb in the main restaurant and spoilt for so much choice you wont want to dine in the Ala Cart. We have teenage kids and there were plenty of nice activities to keep them occupied.

This hotel is wonderful even though the staff speak very little English they are very polite and extremely helpful. I would go back without even a second thought.

Just be careful you could put on an awful lot of weight as the foof just does not stop, Dont forget to try out the freshly made Waffles they serve by the poolside everyday at 4pm they are a must.

Thank you to the management and all the staff at Xanadu for making our holiday special.

Most of what is written in the other reviews is true. You cannot fault the hotel and its facilities. Great suites with large bathrooms and comfortable beds. Most rooms have fantastic views (sea view from some of the courtyard suites may be obstructed). The hotel never seems crowded although we were told it is fully booked. Surprisingly, you can even get a sun bed at 10am in the morning.
We had asked for a quiet room because one review mentioned entertainment until the early morning hours. Well, we were given the quiet room - including an upgrade to the next level suite but we were struggling to identify the area of the hotel where those other people could have been disturbed in their sleep!
Entertainment is very low key and in my opinion more suited to older travellers who prefer a quiet time. We have 2 teenage girls with us who get a little bored every now and again. Sadly, the "entertainment team" is not doing much to deserve the name. In fact, they seem to have the best holiday out of all guests and there is not much which could disturb them. Well, unless you turn up 2 minutes late for the already cancelled aerobics session which will earn you a telling off. Whoever wrote the positive reports about those guys must be related to them!

Can't praise this Hotel enough, the best hotel by far by a long margin we have stayed in.
Everything was superb from the food to the drink and the small touches like the 24 hr room service, and the minibar which was replenished everyday.
The Hotel is in an idylic spot on such a picturesque peninsular surrounded by breathtaking veiws.
I could go on and on but if your thinking of booking don't think just do it!
you won't be dissapointed.

Room Tip: All suites with superb veiws should have no drama's with rooms.
