“Beautiful resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2012

M husband and I have made our first trip to Turkey, and we could not have chosen a better hotel, it was all we expected. We had been recommended this hotel by a friend and were not dissappointed. We did upgrade to the select option which in itself was lovely, our room was bright and modern and overlooked the sea, perfect. We ate in all speciality restaurants for most of the holiday, the fish was good but a very small menu, we loved the turkish restaurant and also the select restaurant which was directly outside our room. We did not try the Italian as everyone seem to be dissappointed with it. The main restaurant was very good, lots of choice, beautifully presented salads etc. I highly recommend the bar at the top of the select building for a great intimate place to meet other guests and Ali the barman was amazing. It is a platinum choice hotel and we personally loved it. The little village of Turgetreis is a very pleasant 10 minute walk away, plenty of shopping and a huge market on Saturdays. Staff throughout were friendly and helpful. We have booked to return.

Room Tip: It is well worth upgrading to select if possible. Cannot comment on the other rooms in the hotel.

The Aegean dream is a good hotel, looks a bit tired in places but on the whole it's a great all inclusive, food is excellent which having been to quite a few 4 & 5 star resorts is a nice change. The pool area is a little bit too small for the number of guest but we did manage to get beds everyday with an umbrella and we did have to go down too early to put the towels out!. The location is good not too far to stroll in to town, the resort centre is great. Very good holiday had by all, my 4 year old loved the kids pool which has a shade over it, so he could play all afternoon and I didn't have to worry about him getting sun burned.

Sid
If you are disabled ,this hotel is brilliant there are lifts ,rams where a few steps are, stairs with handrails into the pool there is even a chair lift into the pool,
The down side was that the pool bar always smelt of stale beer day & night,
Plastic reusable glasses were used around the pool in the day time witch was fine,
Unfortunately the same glasses were used at night all of the having been chewed around the rim at some time in there life.
This being a "Thomason Platinun Hotel " I would have liked have had to glass at night.,
The waiters in general were not very helpful all ,
It being self- service some help getting your food back to the table would have been nice & the chef's that walked around thought it was there right to walk stright in front of you.for some known reason
The entertainment crew being very good night & day ,well done
All in all a nice holiday

Room Tip: A sea veiw is needed

As a 3 star hotel this would be a perfectly normal hotel however as a self styled 5 star hotel or Thomson platinum collection hotel rated as 4 star plus this falls very short. Which is a shame as we paid extra for the "platinum family holiday experience" and I was so disappointed that I requested to move hotels within 24 hours of arrival.

The general ambience of the hotel is industrial, gloomy, hot and musty smelling. The rooms were very basic with several maintenance and decoration issues such as non working showers, ill fitting laminate flooring and very noisy AC.

If you accept this is a 3 star hotel the food was of acceptable quality and as one person was heard to remark "this is better than Butlins, you dont get barbequed steak there"
There was an issue with the al a carte resturants as these were all fully booked before lunch time on the first day. Apparently the food is good but as I had no chance to try it I cannot say.

The high point of the day was the midday "tequila boom boom clap dance procession" which was supposed to be entertainment for all the family. This was the only entertainment for the whole faily as there were very few other options.
During other pool activities, such as the twice daily water polo people had to clear the pool which prevented enjoyment of the pool.

The childrens club is for 4 hours per day split between morning and evening which has to be supervised by parents!! The club area is outside under a large pagoda, no air conditioning or fans, There was a fridge with water but this was removed after two days.
The ages for the club are 4-12 and the activiteis are limited to painting, jenga, connect 4, baloon modeling. "All activity material" was locked away out of hours during the day. My 9 and 11 years olds were not impressed but they were not allowed to join the other teenage activities as they were too young. My 3 yearold was most exceptionally impressed which shows the standard and why it is not suitable for older children.
There was a play area with swings and slides available but as these were uncovered they were totally unusable due to the heat.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

I thought this was one of the most enjoyable places I have ever visited. The amount of people moaning is incredible - probably those types who get uptight with shoppers in supermarket queues with more than 10 items in their basket.
I found everyone to be friendly, helpful, the food was excellent, the Animation crew entertaining and welcoming.
The only down side was the night time performance of Julius Caesar which was spoiled by the poor acting and attitude of some ridiculous holidaying bloke who despite having the requisite Roman nose, acted like a spoilt brat.
That aside (you can’t legislate for fellow holidaymakers) the whole holiday was brilliant.

Last night (saturday night) we were having diner at one of the a l carte restaurants at the top floor of th hotel enjoying the view. Suddenly at 21.30 hell broke loose. From near the pool a drive inn disco sponsored by a Turkish beer brand began playing dance music at an excessive loud volume. People at the restaurant began covering their ears. As the volume was unbearable we left the restaurant. I had an iPad with me with loudness metering software and measured 110, not in front of the speakers but outside our room in Dream Select building 200 meters away in the hallway! At the venue itself it was at least 140db, louder than an average nightclub is allowed to play. The building we were in was shaking due this excessive loud volume. I went to the reception ask why it was so incredibly loud and when it would stop. The receptionist tried reaching the entertainment manager by phone which was not answered as he could not hear it ringing due to the loud music. What strikes me most is that a hotel that is marketed as a family hotel and has 90 percent families with kids allows this. People went to their rooms to avoid hearing damage and nobody f the staff did something about it. It was like being at a rave house party in Ibiza. How can an entertainment manager who knows its job and type of guests permit this? This totally ruined our Saturday night here at the Eagean Dream hotel. I think the dis functional entertainment manager who allowed this should be fired on the spot. Beside that the hotel, staff, waiters and cleaners are very friendly and helpfully and the Select rooms are excellent. This is really a blemish for all those people who are working there to make your holiday memorable. If I want a holiday with extremely loud music that hurst your ears I will go to Ibiza and not a family resort in Turkey.

Room Tip: Select rooms in a separate building are worth extra costs.

This is the third year we have been to this resort and decided to upgrade to the select room. On arrival we found wallpaper hanging off wall and the room (ground floor) was very damp. We spoke to the Thompson representative (Sheby) who was fantastic, unfortunately she had to ask the hotel 3 times to visit the room. Eventually the wallpaper was done but it was explained to us that they could not do anything about the dampness as all the lower rooms suffer with damp. We will not be going back to the resort and suggest that if you go the upgrade was not worth the money. The resort is very tired and needs new equipment (sights on the air riffle was a BIC pen !!) aAgean Dream has the potential of being a good resort but needs money being spent on it. 3 star at best

Room Tip: Don't go for ground floor if you choose the select rooms.
