Just got back from an October half term stay at the Aegean Dream Hotel. After reading reports of the "hotel shutting around you over the half term week" in previous years, I almost cancelled the booking.....I am so glad we didnt!

Before I give more detail.....people seem to see 5 star and expect the Ritz or The Waldorf (these are top end 5 star hotel and would be classed higher in the far east that allow for higher ratings). For my work I stay in many 5 hotels in the UK and this is comparable to most.

The early morning arrival at the hotel was no problem for the staff, allocation of room was swift with good explanation of how the "all inclusive" worked. The bell boy brought our luggage to the room and we felt guilty no tipping as we only had large notes. He didnt seem bothered and didnt seem to be expecting a tip anyway!

We were staying in the Dream Select block and the room was lovely...very modern and swish; wooden floors, very well decorated, plasma tv, DVD player, comfortable beds Bathroom was very modern too and all extremely clean. Not sure how we ended up in this block as we paid Thomas Cook's lowest price for this hotel. Free wi-fi easily connected in the room as well as public areas. The mini-bar was full of soft drinks, beer and water and was replenished daily (all part of the all-inclusive).

The facilities at the hotel were impressive with 2 outside pools, a lovely indoor pool and gym. The spa has a wonderful feel to it and you are not pressured into buying extra services such as massage etc.

The hotel beach is quite small and I can imagine very busy at the height of the season. Due to it being at the end of the season there were always plenty of beds around the pool, on the beach and on the jetties.

I cant see how anyone can complain about the food. As well as the buffet inside, there were chefs each night making various fresh food on the veranda. Just a tip....on the Turkish night do give the raw meatballs a try, VERY nice! We only went the Italian a-la-carte during our stay....while the menu is limited the food is very good.

Finally we need to mention the staff. All extremely friendly (but not overly so) and efficient. The animation team work very hard and the range of activies including the various water sports is extensive. The evening entertainment is a bit dire, but certainly made me laugh (although not for the right reasons).

We can also recommend the boat trip sold by the guy at the little stand on the beach. Very good value for money, although do be aware that you have to buy the drinks on the boat (some people thought this was included).

Can certainly recommend this hotel and will be back next year!

We've just returned from a week's stay here and have had a very nice time, despite the poor weather.
The hotel was comfortable but was looking a bit tired after a long season, the carpets were stained in places and the mattresses for the sun loungers & parasols had been well used. That said our room was cleaned to a high standard daily with plenty of fresh towels. It was good to have a safe in the bedroom & also a fridge. Even though we were directly above the restaurant it wasn't noisy at all - not sure if it would have been worse in high season.
The indoor pool was fantastic as the weather was overcast during most of the week, this kept our children happy for many hours.
The walk along the sea front to Turgutreis was nice & it was good to go to the saturday market especially the section with the local produce for sale.
The food was very nice and even though some dishes were repeated during the week this wasn't a problem as you don't need to eat everything every night therefore we thought there was plenty of variety and choice. The food on the outside grill area was especially tasty.

24th September to 8th October 2009 saw my wife and I take our seventh holiday in 4 years at this extremely friendly and well managed 5 Star Hotel situated on the beach at Turgutries.
We are astounded at some of the reviews we have read and wonder if the reviewers are talking about the same Hotel. Get up at 6am to get a sunbed....Rubbish!! I certainly arranged beds at 7.45am and I could have had the pick of 99% of the total in situ. Even at 9.30am after breakfast many beds were still available, both around the pool and on the sand.
Although the staff have changed slightly since last year the replacements are as friendly and helpful as their predecessors and are willing to assist at any time.
I am astounded that people complain about the food. If you visit a foreign country you cannot expect to have English food on tap. Half the enjoyment of a holiday is to sample the local quisine and if this is not your choice stay in the British Isles. The food in fact here is varied and plentiful and there is always something to satisfy your palate. The specialist restaurants are particularly popular and have to be booked early, but be ready
to spend a full evening dining in pleasant surroundings with many delicious dishes.
The Turkish is managed by Morat and his staff and they certainly know how to look after their guests. Similarly Sinan and his staff at the Select. Don't miss the Italian it is also a great evening.
The animation team are newcomers this year and under the leadership of Mr.' Africa'
they certainly work hard and try their best to entertain from 10am until 12midnight.
The general manager Mr Yusuf Gunaydin makes himself available everyday from dawn till dusk (except for his rest days) and regularly can be seen outside Pool Bar conversing with the guests and any complaint received will be dealt with almost immediately. Likewise Mr Goksun Alay and his staff in reception will attend to any problems without hesitation.
The hotel cleanliness is Ist class and the cleaning staff again are friendly and will assist if any problem arises.
Four years ago on our first visit we found 80% of the guests were Dutch and German, over the years the percentage is now about 75% British. This surely shows that the Hotel has had many satisfied British guests who have spread the word upon their return to their homes.
I have no hesitation in stating that this is one of the best ,if not the best, hotel we have stayed in since first travelling abroad in 1980, otherwise we certainly would not have visited there seven times. We recommend it to all.

Terry Elvis, Corringham, Essex.

We've just come back from our 1 week stay in this hotel. It was at the end of the tourist season, so therefore a bit less crowded; which was a bonus. We absolutely loved the staff and the food. The view at the sea was lovely. People in Turgutreis are very friendly!
Some nice things to do whilst your stay are:
- visiting the local market (saturdays) to get some Turkish delights and spices.
- catch a dolmus (=bus / about 2.5 euro) to Gumusluck.
- take a boat trip to Kos (transport to and from harbour & ferry 28 euro's) and take the tour
which is offered on the ferry (12 euro's)
- the south tour by boat. If you take the boat "bloody Nora", know that drinks and the camel ride are not included.

Hiya just got back from this lovely hotel,it was our second stay here & as our 1st visit it was a fantastic holiday,ok the weather was abit of a let down but we cant blame that on the hotel. On arrival after a night flight check in was done quickly with no hassle, the bellboy showed us to our room cases followed 2mins later.
The food was of the high standard we had earler in the year, there is something there for every taste with the outside grill being a favourite place for the meat lovers, im not a sweet person but even i was tempted by these delights, the waters were all very friendly & polite they even remembered what drink you would have with your meal.
We didnt spend much time round the pool as the sun was a little lower than in the summer so it was in the shade for alot of the day,so spent our time on the jetty which was a lovely area to be & just chill out listening to the sea.kids loved the slides in the quiet pool& loved diving into the sea from the jetty.
The great thing with this hotel is the fact that the banana windsurf, pedaloes & canoes also water sking are all included so dont incur any extra costs,if you wanted to do the jet ski or para gliding there was a charge for them.
Beach area was clean with eithier the beach bar or pool bar to use for your drinks which are sensibly served in plastic containers for health & safety reasons,i liked a efes in the glass which just meant a walk up the side & into the lobby bar where Yakup looks after you .
The entertainment team work hard through the day putting plenty of effort into the activities on offer all done with a smile on there faces as well, also you are provided with free beach & pool towels please take a min of your time to speak to Berk the guy who looks after the towel station,he is a great lad who has had to learn to walk & speak again after a bad car accident.
I must admit the hotel could do with some freshing up in places as you could tell it was the end of a long season the sunbed matresses starting to look grubby & carpets have some stains on but this did not deter us from having agreat time in a lovely hotel in a fantastic setting. If like us you like to stretch your legs in the evening it is a lovely walk into the beautiful resort of Turgetries you could tell it was end of season as alot of restaurants & shops had closed up,the bars on bar strret were openuntil weds nite had great time in tash bar lads are a laugh in there, Also forgot to mention another thing that is free in this hotel unlike many others we have stayed in & that ist he safe & mini bar in your room.

Just returned from the Aegean Dream where we spent one week in a standard room on all inclusive basis. We had mixed weather but had a relaxing time, as long as you don’t spend too much daytime around the pool area. We spent our days on the jetty enjoying the quiet sounds of the ocean and the breeze (windy at times).
It was our first time to Turkey and we were pleasantly surprised with the experience. The people working in the hotel are probably some of the most friendly that we have met in hotels anywhere.
People will always have different views and experiences, so I cant comment on those, only to say that for the money that we paid it was great, bearing that in mind, I would have a different view had I paid full price as there are many, many better places for 500- 600 quid. If you are going to pay brochure prices then go elsewhere would be my advise.
The food was plentiful and of a good standard but I was not impressed with the way they laid out the hot main meals which were in metal roll top containers and you had to open them to peer inside to see what was on offer (same in La Blanche next door, I walked thro during their breakfast to sneak a view, also same type of food, except for freshly made smoothies). There was always plenty to choose from including freshly cooked areas outside, great salads and deserts. As for the Ala Carte, the Italian should be avoided but the Fish and Turkish were excellent experiences. White wine in the restaurant on a help yourself tap was quite drinkable whilst the red was – I don’t know really, but it wasn’t wine as we know it!
There were things that I didn’t like in the restaurant like open bottles of water (but hey, stick to the wine) and also some of the waiters were poorly turned out, but the chefs each night around the restaurant were immaculate.
Beer was good but the other spirits and juices were of poor quality. The guy in the Starlight bar will make a good cocktail tho.
There was no rush for sun beds but they did go by mid morning in the best places. The pool area is far too small and we avoided that area because of this and the loud music on times including noisy games.
This hotel is kept clean with the staff being its main asset, but it is in no way a 5 star as it shows outside. It struggles to be a 4 star in our comparisons. A previous reviewer suggested ‘luxury’, well if you live in a tent I guess that could be conceived as such but to most people this is an exaggeration beyond belief. If people travel to the same place 5 years in succession they should go elsewhere to broaden their views I feel.
The walk to the port is boring and dimly lit at night. The market on Saturday is worth a visit, but go at about 10 am, we were there for 9.15 and we had the undivided attention of all the market traders with their crazy selling techniques. As it filled up with people we could view the items on sale without being verbally battered. Apparently it gets too full later on tho.
All in all we had an excellent stay for the money we paid (£374 each) and I would recommend it for around that price and maybe a bit more. The La Blanche next door does look more upmarket than the Aegean Dream.

Free wifi could be picked up in the lobby and at various hotspots around the hotel corridors (seating areas).

Mixed feelings for us - hotel was lovely and facilties excellent. We were on the top floor of the select building - room lovely and incredibly quiet even though the sunset bar was only a few doors away. Our opinion is that the facilties available make it 5 star but cleanliness did not meet what I would expect. Tiled walls in the bathroom had not been washed for sometime and looking at previous occupiers toothpaste stains (I hope!) and worse around the edge of the shower was not nice! The room was made up daily with fresh sheets and towels and this was lovely. Pool area could do with cleaning more often and sunbeds are rather aged with tatty and stained mattresses (end of season I suppose).

The food did become repetitive but was generally good. I don't eat fish but my husband said the sea bass in the Fish Restaurant is the best he's ever had. I had a child's meal of a burger as no other main course option (although customer relations will tell you there is plenty of non fish choice when you book it!!). The Select restaurant was nice, if basic, and made a change from the busy, busy, buffet. A la carte service is just that, lovely. Waiter service in buffet is not so good - they quite openly paid close attention to the young girls - we were very glad our 18 year old daughter was not with us!! We spotted a waitress wipe a used glass with a towel and put it back on the table for use!! (We also saw part empty wine bottles being taken from tables and tipped in together and recorked for use the next day - recycling!!!) It's near impossible find an unopened bottle of water in the restaurant or bars - again recycling!!

There is little or no choice of entertainment and I understand the shows were not brilliant. That said, the animation team had so much energy each day it wore us out just watching them - there was always something going on and they never stopped!!

We didn't like the fact that the hotel allowed the boat guys to try to sell around the pool and along with the sales pitch from the spa guy we were hassled daily.

The market in Turgutreis was our worst nightmare and to us was like running the gauntlet and reminded us very much of being at the pyramids in Egypt. However the small market in the hotel on the Turkish night was a bit easier for us to handle!! I hate to haggle but you have to do it or be ripped off completely!! It wasn't quite the 'hassle free' holiday we like and are used to so I suppose it's just not one for us but I'm sure would suit some.
