“The staff makes the difference”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

Our second stay at this hotel (two weeks). Beautiful location, about a 20' drive from Bodrum. Nice little beach, huge pool. Good mix of guests, many Turkish regulars which testifies to the hotel's quality. Excellent staff, very attentive and friendly, at the restaurants (thank you Alisan, Selim, Sami, etc.), at the pool, at the beach. Very good and varied food, both local and international. Sami Ocak at the Olive Grill is a great chef and happy to accommodate any special wishes. Suitable for families with kids (large covered area with wooden floor and large family couches). Clean and well run hotel. Unconventional architecture but extensive complex; nobody feels cramped even in high season. Would not hesitate to return.

Kempinski Barbaros Bay is a great hotel for relaxation as it is located outside of Bodrum, in a separate bay. There are great facilities. Kids are welcome and well taken care of. For those who prefer a quiet ambiente, there are facilities where only adults are allowed (sun deck, beach for adults). Food at the restaurants of the Kempinski Bodrum is good, but not spectacular and pricey. There is a bus every hour which takes you to Bodrum. There are many good restaurants in Bodrum, which offer better value for money. You can also visit shops in Bodrum for different brands, from turkish brands to international brands.

Dearest Reader,

When in doubt, book Kempinski - very true to the words. Overall, it was a beautiful holiday and gave us a much deserved break from being the hustle of Istanbul prior for 10 days.

We were concerned when we turned off the main road and going through rough terrain towards the hotel but suddenly the oasis came upon us. Greeted at the security gate by the guard, took our name then we were practically met with open warm arms from the staff at the main reception. A fabulous start.

In general I can say that this hotel deserves the 5 starts it has been rewarded. Fantastic rooms with even more fantastic views - especially being greeted by the resident superyaught in the morning as it relaxes on the bay. The room was of a good size and a very nice balcony. Gave us all that was needed, however, the floors did need cleaning. The walk from the bathroom to balcony resulted in the sole of the feet being dirty... something that we did not expect.

The restaurants gave us pleasure with the variety, more note ably the Italian, La Luce, with its fabulously knowledgeable staff. This was equal in the beach restaurant also. Charming staff.

The infinity pool, could not of asked for more. Having a swim before breakfast is the way forward. Speaking of which, Kempinski always delivers a great breakfast and this did not let us down. If the omelettes do not help give you the energy you need, then good luck to you.

The beach, amazing and tranquil place to be. However, the service was very slow and often forgetful. Another negative was the emergence of a 4 superyaughts coming into the bay and overtaking the sun loungers with all their private staff - disturbing the energy. On a more positive side, the guys sorting out the watersports - awesome effort.

The chilled Gazebo Lounge was a very nice place to be, whether to escape the heat of the day or to relax after dinner.

The Spa - what a place to be at. Stretching 5,500 square metres. Truly a place to visit when you stay. The variety of treatments available was fabulous and the staff were very friendly, warm and professional. The Hammams alone were something incredible to be in.

The barber/hairdresser - worth a visit for a shave. Though was more expensive than the decent barbers of Istanbul... double plus tip.

It must be noted that it the hotel is not close to the town - this is what appealed to us. We wanted to be away from the masses and the busy centre but be able to get there if we wanted. not for everyone as the taxis there and back can work out quite expensive to some.

The hotel is based for all types, whether it be families (majority) or couples.

All in all, we would like to thank the Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay for giving us such a pleasant and elegant stay. There were a few negatives but this was overweighed by the amount of positives that came throughout. Thank you to all the staff for making it possible also.

Room Tip: It is worth going for the Superior or the Deluxe. Viewing the sea when you wake up and also at night...

Fantastic stay, friendly attendants, beautiful and nice place, great restaurant with an emphasis on Italian La Luce amazing food and service. Everything perfect, but do not need concierge, they really are not prepared to meet the customer! need the concierge a few times and were poorly attended, or rather, not served, but to stay more than 40 minutes to talk to them, and when he was to return our requests, he simply did not return. Outside the concierge everything was perfect, could have used a bit more, but as the structure, pool, beach, spa, everything perfect and fantastic! Speaking of SPA does not cease to make Turkish bath and a simply unforgettable aromatic massage! I recommend if you like luxury and sophistication but do not need the concierge, because the site concierge is really too bad!

Room Tip: ask for room on the fifth floor facing the sea, beautiful view quiet nights

A great resort for summer holidays. The staff were wonderful and the beach was excellent. It has 2 beaches, the quiet beach for people who want to relax without children and the other, which is close to the beach restaurant, with great food. A MUST for someone who wants to go to Bodrum.

Room Tip: The villas are great for families but you need to be transported by a golf style cart.

This Hotel didn't match any of our expectations. For paying an extraordinary price one would expect that the hotel offers a luxurious and pleasant stay. Well the opposite is the case...
The arrival was very comfortable with our rental car we didn't have any problems with this as one should expect. When entering the hotel however we were already very disappointed since the interior design looks as if it was a cheap four star hotel. No attention to detail was paid and it seems as if there was no clear design concept. Coming from the D-Hotel Maris, which was an extraordinary stay in a comparable price segment we expected a similar standard and that just wasn't the case. The worst was the Service. Barely anyone could speak proper english and when ordering a drink at dinner or lunch they would just forget about it. (That happened every time) There was way to little staff and it was badly trained. The hotel staff higher in order just made the impression of feeling a little to secure about themselves and it didn't seem a necessity for them to care properly about their guests. The food was ok for a five star hotel but costs way too much. The pool looked like any pool in a Robinson club nothing special and again one would expect more. The most horrific place of the hotel however was an elevator leading down to the sea. It was basically rotten and completely unacceptable. The only thing that would make a stay worthwhile is the view which is indeed very good. We had two suites with sea view balconies. The rooms themselves weren't really up to the standard but not bad either.
To sum up: The hotel is a place we wouldn't recommend to anyone. It's view is good but there are other hotels with a better view and I am sure that they offer you a better around experience. We were really happy when we left and certainly aren't considering another stay.

Stayed at the hotel for the third time in the past five years. Having visited many nice hotels/resorts throughout the world, it would be hard to find a better place. The hotel is clean, the rooms are beautiful, the pool is magnificent, the beach is wonderful (and includes a adult only area if you are looking for some quiet time), the views are outstanding and the spa is world-class. There are several restaurants at the hotel that offer a wide variety of excellent selections. The staff is outstanding and very attentive to your needs. In particular, should you have any problems, the Assistant Front Desk Manager (Mr. Ali Cetiner) is tremendous at helping the guests.

Room Tip: If possible, try to upgrade to a room with a view of the sea - it is well worth the upcharge.
