Owner description: A Civil War fortress located at the entrance of Beaufort Inlet.

Been going to Fort Macon all my life. It just gets better. The historical aspects are helpful. I learned a lot about how women and children survived during the civil war during a special event one summer. This time, I took an out of state friend on Friday night and stumbled into a free concert. The fort made for an interesting venue and the band was good.

Had not been to Fort Macon in over 30 years.
The state of NC has done an OUTSTANDING job in conserving and reconstructing this piece of US History

Take an hour of your trip and check out Fort Macon

Went on Friday and listened to Saltwater Gold. Superb band and it was free - although they accept donations at the main table, which I think great to show appreciation for them coming out!! U can come have a picnic dinner while listening. Also a great place to visit, take a free tour with a guide and watch a cannon being fired or live reenactment. All a great time for family- even teenagers

Nice fort to walk around and get some great pictures. It overlooks the ocean, where Blackbeards Queen Annes Revenge lies and you can see the Cape Lookout lighthouse in the distance. We visited after hours so no tours of the inside were available but as we were walking around the many cannons the Blue Angels flew overhead on the way to Cherry Point. Also in the Park there is a very nice area with some good size sand dunes and a beach access area with outstanding views of the ocean as well. It is well worth a visit and no charge to enter the State Park and grounds.
