A Place at the Beach III
Reviewed 7 June 2012

This is our first trip to Atlantic Beach, NC and we chose A Place At the Beach due to the many amenities. Our kids are 8 and 7 and we thought they'd love all of it. They did. We played the 9 hole putt putt course many times and also played tennis. The pool was awesome as was the waterslide. There was easy access to the beach, too.

The staff were all super friendly. There's also an on site store that has the sporting equipment for the sports courts, courses, etc (it's free, you just have to check it out and then return it). They also have snacks, drinks and ice cream in there.

We stayed in a one bedroom (with convertible den) condo. It was the perfect size for our family of four. The interior corridors are nice...they are covered yet outside, so if it rains, you stay dry. We had a great courtyard view from our balcony.

My only wish was that the unit was cleaner (I'm a bit of a stickler for cleanliness). There was hair on all of the baseboards as well as in the fridge and shower (we were in Unit 309). The unit had, however, been updated recently and had nice granite counters in the kitchen. The showers had also been redone and other than the hair, were excellent. As for the reviews that mentioned bugs and roaches, I saw none of these in our unit.

We will definitely stay here again should we return to Atlantic Beach, NC.

We stayed a week and had a wonderful time! There is plenty to do in the area and lots of great places to eat. A place at the beach is very well maintained--the grounds are beautiful, the pool is clean and the beach is nice. The slide at the pool is a ton of fun! I watched 2 year olds go down it as well as 80 year olds! They have a 15 min. break every hour for adults to swim and the pool is also open late. There is an indoor pool as well but we were plenty happy with the outdoor pool. This is an excellent family place--nice atmosphere for kids. Now, the unit we stayed in needed new carpet badly. It was a problem for me. If we return, that is something I will ask about as I will want to stay in an updated unit. APATB goes out of their way to keep the overall place nice. You wear arm bracelets showing you are staying at the resort which is nice--it keeps others who are not staying on property from using the amenities. Great place, not crowded, we will be back!

Room Tip: Take the ferry at Beauford to Shakleford Island and stay the day. It is really fun and you will see...

Overall, the grounds are nice, as are the amenities. However, since the units are time share-owned you are at the mercy of the owners. The owner of the unit we stayed in was a heavy smoker. The smell was completely overwhelming and when we asked for a new room, the management company was not able to accomodate since owners had priority for other units. The smoke smell and inability to put us in a different unit ruined the stay here.

I just returned from a week’s stay at A Place at the Beach. I honestly do not have anything negative to say about the place. We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo that had 2 bathrooms, a living room, dining room, and a kitchen. The room also had a washer and dryer, dishwasher, and had all the pots, pans, dishes, and silverware we needed. The place was very clean and the bathrooms were mold free…which is the very important to me.

The beach is only steps away and not overly crowded. Some days there were only 2 or 3 other people out at the beach with us. They also have a great pool and waterslide. My boyfriend and I are in our late 20s and we had a blast on it! There is also an indoor heated pool and hot tubs. The pools stayed open until 11pm which was nice. There are plenty of electric and charcoal grills available for all guests to use at any time of day. There is never a shortage of activities to do on the property. They have a mini golf course, a game room, and tennis and basketball courts. All are free to those who are staying on the property...you just have to make sure you have your recreation badge.

My boyfriend and I loved the area as well. It is very low key but still there is tons of stuff to do. The Beach Tavern and Amos Mosquitos is a must for drinks and dinner. Everyone at both places was super nice and helpful. Fort Macon is just a short ride down the road and the aquarium is also very close as well. I recommend renting a scooter to see the island; it's a lot of fun and a great way to see the sights. If you are into shelling and seeing wild horses there is a Ferry you can take to Shakelford Island for only $15 and you can stay as long as you'd like, the last pick up was at 5pm. We went through Waterbug Tours in Beaufort, which was only a short drive away.

Overall it was a great vacation...great weather, people, and atmosphere. It is a great place to relax and enjoy yourself without having everything in your face like the Jersey Shore or Ocean City. There were no crowds to fight or long lines. I would most defiantly return.

Room Tip: Bring bug spary! They have bitting knats and other bugs that like to feast on humans. Rent a sco...

We come to APATB every year in August before school starts. Family and friends are always delighted to join us. New management company is doing a great job and keeping current on maintenance that was overdue, even added elevators and a 9 hole mini golf course. So much to do, steps to the beach, indoor and outdoor pool with waterslide, hot tubs, grills (gas & charcoal), sports court - and this is all on the property. Atlantic Beach is very low key, not very commercial but has nearby grocery stores, a movie theater, bike rentals, etc. All the things you need. Amos Mosquitos is always a must for dinner one night and it's just down the street from APATB! Our unit is one of the few 3 bedroom ones - full kitchen, washer/dryer, 2 queen rooms and 1 2-twin bed room, 3 bathrooms. Perfect! Family friendly, you will see some of the same faces here year after year since some units are timeshares.

Room Tip: One and a half bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom units are available. The lower #'d units...

My husband and I used to go here in the 1980s with our daughter and rediscovered it two years ago when looking for a place our grandchildren would enjoy.
They love it so much that we're booking our third trip there for next summer.
The pool and water slide are fantastic, the beach is beautiful and uncrowded and the town offers enough in dining and recreation to keep all of us happy

Room Tip: Look for a room which fronts the pool and is close to the elevators

I have been coming to this timeshare for 24 years. My father purchased our unit when the place first opened. Now my kids and I vist my Dad for our special week together. We love walking to the beach and spend countless hours on the waterslide. We also enjoy tennis on the 2 courts and fun pickup games of basketball with fellow vacationers. We were THRILLED to enjoy the wonderful 9 hole miniature golf course and outdoor ping-pong (NEW THIS YEAR!!!) An exciting activity for 3 generations of our family to enjoy together. The place was far cleaner this year than in years past. It smelled wonderfully fresh when we entered the unit. The sofa bed in 383 could use a new mattress. It was so uncomfortable we slept on our aerobed. The security is SO friendly, waving to you as you enter and depar the complex. We were so sad to cut our vacation short by 3 days due to Hurricane Irene. Hopefully we'll get a full week next year! Keep up the improvements! We are grateful for your efforts to make our stay special.
