“Nice unexpected find”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

Not too many travelers go through this little town,, but if you do, make this a stop! There is a Gem museum across the street, and also a park, and the museum has a pile of reject, for you to search for fossils! Check there times, as you would like to see both of these museums!

“Unique Experience”
Reviewed 6 September 2012

Old fashioned museum plus a large pile of "ocean bottom land" that children can happily dig through to find sharks teeth.

“Small museum but intersesting. Free fossil dig is great”
Reviewed 10 August 2012

While vacationing in bath nc we took the ferry to aurora to visit this little museum. Enjoyed the few rooms and the people that were working there. The fossil dig across the street was great. We found about thirty sharks teeth in about twenty minutes. This was a nice diversion in the middle of the week and worth stopping at. Free admission but anteup and make a donation

“Neat find in a small town!”
Reviewed 14 July 2012

First of all, for a free exhibit and opportunity to do some fossil hunting... Cannot beat the value. Gift shop prices were reasonable. The volunteers there are so nice and quite knowledgeable in the field. We spent maybe an hour fossil hunting in the spoils and found loads of shark teeth and other misc fossils.

We suggested they start selling water. Until then, bring water with you.

Thanks for a good time!!

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 22 May 2012

As professional geologists and mineral dealers, we really enjoyed our visit. The exhibits are well done and at a level understandable to almost anyone. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the prices of souvenirs and fossils was quite reasonable. The best part, though, was being able to dig for fossils in their "fossil pit" by the parking lot. Although it was raining, and we didn't stay long, we did find a few small shark teeth and lots of fossil coral. They don't charge and entrance fee, but you really should make a donation to help support the facility. Sorry to have to miss the Fossil Festival
