There are many good things to say about this hotel. The staff was welcoming and extremely friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean. Best of all they have a delicious hot breakfast. Well worth the value. I will be back for my next trip.

Because we had to catch an early flight out of the Akron airport and we live 45 minutes north in Cleveland we wanted to find a convenient hotel to shorten the morning drive in icy weather with our 16 month old child and save money on Airport parking. So we booked the Quality Inn hotel because it offered a "free shuttle" to the Akron airport and the room rate was a very reasonable $65+tax. We called the hotel before booking to verify the airport shuttle was indeed free, which they confirmed.

As they say about best laid plans... Our first experience was with an unfriendly receptionist who informed us that in order to use the "free shuttle" we had to pay a $20 parking fee, which was not noted anywhere on their website nor was it mentioned when we called to inquire about the shuttle rate.

The next issue came as soon as we we entered the sorely outdated and neglected room and were greated with a blast of heat. It turns out the heater in the room would not automatically shut itself off - we had to mannually turn it off/on to adjust the room temperature. When we did turn it off, however, the room quickly cooled down to an uncomfortable level due to the severely drafty windows. When we checked out the next morning we asked the clerk about the heater and he said that was normal.

In the end, we would have been better served to book the $89 Hilton Garden Inn that's located right outside the airport.

We stayed here just for 1 night. Upon arriving, we noticed the hotel's convenient location right next to the highway. However, even from outside, this hotel had a very sub-par look to it. (the picture from the hotel can be deceiving). Check-in was a little slow, but easy. We were told that our room was located on the opposite side of the building in door 'F', to which we would have to drive from the lobby. Each section of the hotel has a different lettered door and it even had a distinct community center or YMCA feeling (or something like that) just driving around it.

When we got to door 'F', there were 2 non-powdered doors that we had to go through in order to get to the main hallway. In Ohio's very cold weather and with a lot of luggage, this can be a major challenge.

The room was fairly clean, but the rooms were seriously outdated. The bathroom ceiling could not have been more than 7-8 ft. tall and was the type that had movable tiles to access the above crawl space. The heater was extremely noisy....so much that it woke me up several times through the night so that I finally turned it off and was cold the rest of the night. The window was as thin as paper because the freeway noise was quite loud in the room.

As other reviewers have said, however, the breakfast wasn't bad. It was probably the best aspect of this hotel.

Next time in Akron, we'll search for a better option.

Visiting Akron for a family reunion, we booked the Quality Inn based upon the reviews posted here on tripadvisor.com. How this place is rated the #1 hotel in Akron is beyond me. But before I rant, there are some positives about the place. It's freeway convenient, offers a respectable free breakfast, free parking and free Internet. The people at the hotel were also nice and friendly. The real issue is with the building itself. The hotel is in desperate need of a renovation. In fact, our room showed severe water damage near the window, with wallpaper over bubbling plaster. In addition, the bathroom did not have an exhaust fan, and trapped humidity...resulting in visible black mold on the walls and near the ceiling. My allergies were in full force and I had a sore throat the entire trip...which miraculously disappeared whenever I was away from the hotel. Less of an issue is the fact that the rooms are on the small side, and everything is a bit out of date. Next time, we will explore some of the areas newer options.
