We were boating Lake Erie, heading west, when a lightning storm sent us into the nearest port, which was Ashtabula. At first it didn't look like it had much to offer, but as we soon discovered, it is a very quaint place with some fine restaurants - this one being the first choice.

We had the best meals of the entire trip here, and some of the best food we've had in a while. It's nicely appointed, and the service was excellent.

Appetizers to entrees were of exceptional quality. And it was priced very fairly.

Highly recommend it.

We have dined here multiple times and it has never let us down! We have ordered the specials and many regular menu selections. Great wine list, lots of great European stuff and the best the local wineries have to offer. We wholeheartedly recommend this establishment for food and drink!

What a good restaurant in little Ashtabula - next to the bridge from which it draws its name. Mom and I enjoyed the specials - I a monkfish item, Mom some scallops. The local wine offering was a great pairing.

I'm really surprised Bascule Bridge doesn't have a higher ranking, as it is now one of the best restaurants in the region. We hadn't been in awhile (we are usually with our kids and will head to Briquettes or get takeout from Alessandro's). Last night's dinner, from the opening cocktail (my husband said his basil cucumber martini rivaled Sable Kitchen and Bar's in Chicago) to our entrees (duck breast for me; the special Johnny burger and frites for him) was pretty much perfect. We couldn't decide if we enjoyed the lamb tenderloin, in a yummy balsamic-fig sauce, or the pork belly on ciabatta with pickled onions the best--both were delicious. True, Bascule's strength is probably its meats (especially grilled) so perhaps a vegetarian might find a limited menu, although I did note interesting salads and a risotto that sounded good. We were too stuffed for dessert but left completely satisfied.

A wonderful find in a quaint historical "downtown". Enjoyed a very tasty meal accompanied by wine of the area
