We had lunch at Hil Mak's and it certainly didn't disappoint! I had the New England clam chowder which was very good and then for an entree 4 of us ordered the baked shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. Delicious!! It came with vegetables on the side.

My aunt had the crab cakes; she said they were delicious. 2 People from our group ordered the Atlantic Salmon; my dad said it was better than the salmon he had in Alaska. All in all a very good experience.

Place was clean and the service was good; our waitress was very friendly.

I've always adored this place.. right in a lil' niche in the Ashtabula Harbor, with their fresh seafood market right next door, but in the past few years the service has become too bad to bear.

Now, it's not entirely the server's fault.. they seem to have a strange service set-up -- the party's responsibilities are split among several different indeterminant employee's, and to top it off all the servers are required to use ungainly carts to navigate their orders around a rather drab and crowded dining room. Quite simply, lunch seems to be the best time to come by anymore (and can't beat the fried catfish with hushpuppies!).

Still, the food is incredible, provided you get it warm. Great seasonal selections, all fresh! My favorite is the Mahi-Mahi.

Staff was slow with food, and food was bland. Crab legs were cold/watery and had no seasoning. Cream brulee was burnt and ashy tasting. Our apps were cold and had no taste, even salt and pepper would have been an improvement. Just not worth the cost. Would not go back.

Fresh fish and friendly service made this one of the tastiest dinners and best dining experiences I have ever had. This is not a place to go to for good ambiance...more like a family diner...but don't let the atmosphere fool you as to how good the food is. Good value for the quality of food.

Food was good. Staff was friendly. Price was Ok. A step above Red Lobster. Thai chili sauce was excellent. Would go back.
