Owner description: Our permanent home is now under construction, but you can still watch our carvers and painters at work in our temporary studio, and enjoy browsing our gift shop. We should be in our new home in June, 2017. Founded in 2004, the Historic Carousel and Museum is creating a world class carousel complex in downtown Albany that will draw visitors from around the world and contribute to the economic revitalization of historic downtown Albany.

“A gem in the making in downtown Albany”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

This all-volunteer organization is hand-carving carousel animals and restoring an antique carousel mechanism, with the final product scheduled to be housed in a purpose-built building on the current site. The carvers are eager to tell the stories about "their" animal, and encourage questions. The painting is fascinating to watch, and the finished animals are truly works of art. If possible, you should visit often to see the progress! A top attraction for the area, and for kids young and old alike.

So much fun for all ages! When friends and family come from out of town this is one place we go every time, and everyone has loved it. Cant wait for the carousel to be finished but will miss seeing the carvings and all the hard work!

“Once in a life time opportunity”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

We always take our visiting family members to the Carousel Museum since it is the only place where you can see an actual operating, round, Carousel being built from the ground up. You can tour the carvers shop and watch the volunteers working on the animals and other parts of the soon to be completed Carousel.
The tour by one of the volunteers makes the visit that much more interesting as they can give all of the historical information as well as the stages of completed work of the Carousel from start to finish. Best to call ahead and schedule your tour.
This is a great opportunity for your children, grandchildren or a any group of people from 5 - 100 years old, there is something for everyone, and they also have a small gift shop where you can pick up items to commemorate your visit.

“Craftsmanship and then some”
Reviewed 21 January 2014

The imaginative variety of carousel animals they carve is amazing. The work is done by volunteer carvers and rivals anything I have ever seen. They also have some excellent examples of old time carousel figures. This would be a delightful place for anybody to spend a couple of hours. The real treat will be when they mount them on a carousel that they already have plans for.
