The Stratford is a solid choice near downtown, but the breakfast was truly mediocre. The coffee was terrible, several of the pastries stale and the view was poor. The Bard's Inn has a much better breakfast with a fabulous view of Mt. Ashland. It is much closer to downtown since it is one block from Lithia Park (where many of the restaurants are located) and two blocks to the Elizabethan and Bowmer theatres. The Stratford is at the other end of town so slightly less convenient for walking (though it does have a Safeway across the street...).
