The Columbia hotel is in a great downtown location. It's a small hotel, and most rooms use shared bathrooms. I love the unique feel, nice rooms with high ceilings. The service is great. The large lobby is great for your morning paper and coffee. If you like smaller hotels with character, you'll love The Columbia.

Ps. If The Columbia is full their sister motel, The Palms is not far and very cool.

Room Tip: I like rooms over looking the main street, but these may have more noise. If you want a private bath...

It's been years since we last stayed at the Columbia, but it's just as charming and convenient as ever. Back then we were a newly married couple and didn't mind having a bath down the hall. This time we had our daughter, finally old enough to see the plays and enjoy them. It was nice to be back in Ashland, and even nicer to have such a lovely place to stay. And very nice to have a tween who doesn't bat an eye at staying in a hotel with no TV. She really loved the atmosphere and cozy room, along with the easy walk to everything.

This is not your standard corporate box room. The room itself was just a queen bed in one room with a curtain separating us from a day bed where our daughter slept. It wasn't roomy, but when we wanted more room, all we had to do was open our door and enjoy the common living room area. For us, that's delightful. We played board games and ate our snacks and browsed the books, newspapers, and restaurant listings.

Our room had a private bath just off the area with the day bed. The claw foot tub is lovely, though a little harder to climb in and out of than I would have thought. One benefit of the place is if one of our party was taking too long in the bathroom, there were other toilets and showers available down the hall.

The location is prime. It's so nice to walk just a block or so from the theaters after the plays get out at night. And during the day, it was close to shops my daughter loved exploring like the bead store and book store.

We really love this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

Super convenient in the heart of Ashland, cute, quaint, comfortable inside. Stayed in a queen suite with private bath that was clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Definitely a great place to stay.

I have been coming to Ashland every year since 1991. The very first time I was lucky enough to find The Columbia Hotel. I have stayed in several other places when other people made the reservations, but none are as wonderful as The Columbia. What makes it so great is the combination of perfect location (right in the heart of the theatre area), great morning coffee, comfy rooms with lovely antique furniture, friendly front desk staff, nice sitting area and the incredibly reasonable rates. I hate to write this review because I want to be able to get a reservation whenever I need one but I want to support my absolute favorite homebase.

Room Tip: You might want to ask for a room on the back side but the street side isn't noisy.

Excellent location. Great pricing and wonderful room. On my way from Seattle to LA area to drop my recent college grad daughter off (sad) but had the most memorable experience in Ashland and the grand old hotel was a big part of it. Class AAA restaurants a close walk and world class performing arts performances at the theaters just a short walk away. Lovely, clean rooms, great knowlegeable and helpful staff. WOW! A memory I won't forget.

Room Tip: It's an old hotel (1911) so some rooms don't have bathrooms. I'd suggest one for a few...

Seems like home - or maybe like Grandma's home. Right down town and walking distance to theaters and restaurants

We've been staying at the Columbia for over 30 years (reading other reviews, we don't seem to be unique in this respect). When the evening play finishes at about 11 pm, we're scarcely a five minute stroll from our bedroom. The bedrooms are always clean and the beds comfortable and, probably because there are no TVs, the hotel quiet. In the morning, there's good coffee waiting in the lobby, where you can always sit in comfort on the couch or arm chair and read a paper or book. The WiFi is also excellent nowadays. The hotel is located above retail shops in downtown. At one time there were thousands of places like this in the US and this is one of the very few that survive today.
