Great atmosphere, food, and service. Loved the upstairs location overlooking the downtown area. Portions were generous and the food was delicious.

While this restaurant offers later night dining in Ashland downtown and is next to several OSF theaters, the food didn't excite, but does provides basic Italian fare. The restaurant offers two patios -- one in front and one in back that leads to OSF theaters.

Our family has eaten in this restaurant about 6 times over the past 4 years. I was not going to write a review, but was surprised by some of the negative reviews while looking for other restaurants, and now feel the need to put in a positive review to reflect our overall experiences. Our reviews should reflect the intended clientele. If we were in New York looking for a gourmet meal, Martino's would get 1 star, but in small town America targeting tourists, families, and show-goers, it is a fantastic place to keep disparate folks happy. Martino's has an upstairs (more intimate, by the bar, quieter) and downstairs seating locations--you make the reservations specific to the location. The upstairs is on the same level as the OSF theaters, and might be easier for patrons with limited mobility after a show. We like both locations, but often sit downstairs because our children like booths. Our children like the variety of simple dishes, while my wife and I can find some excellent dishes more suitable to our interest in gourmet food. We find the bread served to be very basic/pre-cooked type--edible, but boring. We have had most of the salads, and they are all prepared with fresh vegetables and presented with good dressings. For beverages, note that they Italian soda formula changed over the past year and for some reason they now put cream in them. Quite a shocker to our daughter who had to re-order hers without the cream. A wasted $4... We have had most of the pasta dishes and they are usually very good. One dish that stands out is the Cioppino (Italian seafood stew). Between my daughter's obsession with all things pasta and my wife's love o the Cioppino, I am obligated to eat at Martino's at least once every time we get near Ashland. Our service as always been adequate--excellent at times, tolerable at others; we always felt that the servers were doing there best and were just busy sometimes. In summary, you can get a decent to fantastic meal here, at a modest price, in an excellent location with a menu and layout tolerable to excellent across a broad range of travelers.

We dropped in for drink and a light meal of soup and salad following an evening performance at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The place was packed, but we found a small two-top and happily settled in to watch the crowd, which included performers from the play we’d seen that evening. Although our meal was fine, what we found remarkable was the service. ONE waitress was handling the entire crowd (inside and outside) and doing a MAGNIFICENT job! She was a pro, a Jedi master; it was like watching a ballet. Drinks here, plates there, a quiet inquiry, a check delivered, it was perfection all around. With an extensive background in restaurant management and years of eating out all over the world, we’ve never seen the like. Dropped by the next day to compliment the management, but he was travelling and out of touch. So, to the owner/manager, on the night of 7 SEP our waitress set a standard we don’t ever expect to see again. Thank you!

We stopped in as it was the only restaurant we could find serving food after the plays let out at the OSF. At that time of night, they said they were serving a limited cafe menu, which we were fine with. I ordered a cup of soup and the fruit/cheese plate. The soup was okay, but the fruit/cheese plate was awful - both the watermelon and honeydew melon on it had gone bad (sour and soggy), while the cheese was limp. My boyfriend ordered the caesar salad, but only had a little as it tasted very strongly of lime. Even the drinks from the bar weren't very good. The waitress had to ask us what was in a Dark and Stormy (a pretty basic drink that's hard to screw up), and even then it wasn't good.
The restaurant clearly doesn't want to be serving late night diners, so it shouldn't be offering a menu at all since it's so crappy.
