We spent the weekend at Hartzell House celebrating Mother's Day. It was our first experience at a Bed & Breakfast and have already started to plan our return. It was beyond our greatest expectations and so much nicer than many upscale hotels we've visited.

Kitty and David have thought of absolutely everything to make your stay comfortable and everything you expect/want/need/etc. We can't recommend the Hartzell House more highly!

Room Tip: My only recommendation to others would be to avoid the artist suite if you have outdoor activities p...

What a wonderful weekend with Kitty and David. My girlfriend and I had our first date at Ohiopyle State Park and I wanted to return to there to ask her to marry me. I wanted to stay somewhere that was close to the park and that was also cozy and charming. We found it! Our hosts instantly made us feel right at home. (Please do arrive within the requested hours as Kitty and David will wait up to greet you.) They had the fireplace on for us and tea. Our bedroom was elegant - just as I had hoped. And the next morning we had a wonderful homemade breakfast. The second morning our hosts conspired with me in accommodating my fiance's family for an extended Sunday brunch: a group of 6 in total. What a wonderful memory! We were having such a nice time and felt so comfortable with Kitty and David that we arranged to stay a 3rd night. This was the weekend I had hoped for. Thank you both!

We chose the Hartzell House, based on the great reviews we saw. We needed an overnight stay, as we had a very early morning engagement on Sunday. Upon our arrival, Kitty made us feel right at home---they've thought about everything for guest comfort. The rooms were first class and finely decorated. Both Kitty and David were delightful to talk with - we especially enjoyed hearing about the history of their property and the town. In the morning we had to leave before the scheduled breakfast - but even so, both David and Kitty greeted us with coffee and breakfast to go. And what a "to-go" meal it was...breakfast burritos, freshly-baked DELICIOUS orange scones, and sliced cantaloupe (best I've EVER tasted) and sweet-tart apple slices. First class operation. Can't wait to go back!

Hartzell House has everything a traveler could want in a Bed and Breakfast - elegantly appointed rooms with extremely comfortable beds, a quaint location near many natural and cultural points of interest, incredibly delicious breakfast, and marvelously hospitable hosts.

Our stay was perfect down to the last detail. Coming in from the road we were greeted by Kitty like old friends. There were carafes of ice water, fruits and snacks, and a beautiful room ready for us upstairs. When we wanted to stretch our legs with a walk before dinner, Kitty pointed us to a park just down the street that features local chainsaw art and a restored National Road toll house. When we needed a recommendation for dinner, Kitty gave us directions a great place called the Lucky Dog (which we loved, and would likely never have found on our own).

The two course breakfast was a highlight each morning, and guests get to choose their meal time as well as select from a menu of options the night before.

We had looked at other properties in the area before booking here, and I am so happy that we ended up at the Hartzell House. It was a wonderful place to stay, and for the level of accommodations and service and food that you receive it is also a terrific bargain for the price.

We spent two nights in the Traveler's Room and wished we could have stayed forever.

Our Daughter in Florida purchased a gift certificate for us as a result of reading the reviews for the Hartzell House. We can say that every review she read was just what we found to be accurate and true. From the moment we arrived we were treated like old friends. The breakfast was fantastic; directions to the sites we wanted to visit were available and accurate. Recommendations for lunch and or dinner ended with an excellent dinning experience. Would recommend this B&B for anyone who wants to spend some time in Western MD and PA.

I stayed with them as a mini-retreat. The food was excellent, the fruit very fresh and the quiche so creative!! Kitty and David were very personable, sharing and listening. The atmosphere was quiet, with just the birds chirping in the evening. All details were thought through, down to DVD movie watching, to a glass of wine upon arrival. I stayed in the Angler's room, and it was very charming. So many lotions and gels to choose from in the room! The temperature was comfortable too, adjustable to my suiting!

Kitty & David are master hosts. When I say they've thought of everything, I mean EVERYTHING! Warm cookies, a multitude of snacks and drinks, a breakfast right out of a gourmet magazine, even aspirin and hair bands. We felt like we were visiting friends from the first minute. We went celebrating our 30th anniversary, and it just might become a yearly destination from now on.
