“Delicious Breakfast”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

This house was very, very clean. and beautiful. It was our first stay at a B&B and we were very pleased with our choice to stay here. David and Kitty were very nice and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent. In my opinion the breakfast rivaled our best breakfast ever while away from home, which was at the Inn at Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC. It was that good! Not only was the breakfast delicious, it was beautifully presented as well.

My husband and I stayed at Hartzell House bed and breakfast for a long weekend in March 2014. We stayed in the anglers suite which had a private bathroom. The room, along with the whole house, was tastefully decorated with lush colors, patterns, and fabrics. The room was much more spacious then pictures made it appear. The theme was carefully thought out. The entire house flowed nicely. There was a nice pool table and tons of board games that could be played at any one of the many sitting rooms. Although the house was filled, we never heard any other guests.

The food was fantastic. Ginger is one of my favorite spices and it was used in many different ways that were simply delicious. Breakfast was ample and you definitely didn't leave hungry. Although we didn't eat dinner there, it smelled delicious.

Dave and Kitty were wonderful hosts. They were very knowledgable of the area and were more than helpful in providing dinner recommendations, directions for any one of the numerous sites that are close to their location. The location was great as well, being within a half hour of Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob and Deep Creek Lake as well as Ohiopyle and Nemocolin golf/spa. There was plenty to do.

We will definitely return if we get a chance.

Yet another wonderful weekend at Hartzell House. It was a repeat visit by our group of 5 old-time musicians, and once again we were treated to outstanding hospitality, quiet and comfortable accommodations, and terrific cooking. There's no place better than Hartzell House, and no better hosts than Kitty and David.

We were looking for a b and b for two nights in order to visit Fallingwater and Kentuck Nob. Harzell House was the perfect spot. Kitty and David, the owners, were great hosts - a fund of information about travel plans, area history, where and what to eat for dinner and much more. Also, they conveyed a wonderful love for the service they were performing. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we especially loved the free upgrade to an en-suite room. The breakfasts were works of art, and it was so nice to start the day not feeling overly stuffed! Definitely worth a return visit: a rails to trails bike trip or Fallingwater and the Fall colours?

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to stay to cross country ski nearby and we were delighted to stay here. The rooms we stayed in were nicely decorated as well as the whole rest of the B&B. It was in a good location for our sports activity and the owners were quite helpful in locating the best places to cross-country ski as well as where to dine. We were sad to have to finally leave!

Great food with great people. Kitty provides great guidance on where to go and what to see. The food was excellent. The house is large with spacious rooms that were very clean. I can not wait to go back when the snow is gone so that I can see the rest of the property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hartzell House and would highly recommend it. One of the reasons I picked this Bnb (in addition to the many positive reviews) was the offer of dinner November-April. We needed a place to stay for a weekend night in early February, and we were driving in from 3 hours away, so the prospect of not having to go anywhere additional was very attractive! Kitty recommended a few nice places nearby in case we felt up to it, and then offered to make us dinner when it became clear that a big storm was moving in.

Since we were the only ones staying there that night, we had a wing to ourselves and she offered us a choice of rooms. We had booked the Artists' Suite which was lovely, but ended up choosing to stay in the more spacious Patriot Suite. The memory foam bed was very comfortable; the decor elegant; the hot water almost instantaneous; the toiletries all high-quality organic and sustainable; the towels plentiful and soft...and the heated floors were a wonderful touch!

Dinner was *delicious*, filling, and also very healthy--a rare treat! We had a private table and candles, music--all the amenities of a fine restaurant. The couch was comfy and the TV and gas fireplace worked well. With our room next to the kitchen and spacious living room, it was like house-sitting for a friend.

We woke to 6" of snow on the ground and watched it continue to fall over an *amazing* breakfast--delicious, healthy, filling, and very creative. (They're coming out with a cookbook soon and I'll definitely be buying it!) When it became clear that the roads weren't yet plowed, they were very flexible about check-out, and even called the local PennDOT office (which is 1/4 mile away) to find out when the roads would be cleared. What could have been a stressful morning turned into a cozy few hours watching the snow taper off, and an easy drive out.

If plans ever allow, we'd love to come back here in warm weather with a group of friends. It's near to many outdoor and cultural attractions, and would be the perfect place to unwind in the evening with a game of pool and glass of wine on the deck.

Room Tip: Patriot Suite is great, with an added bonus for travelers who like books on military history and dog...
