“A truly great B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2008

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Hunt room over Memorial Day weekend. We got lucky with perfect weather (mid-70's the entire time), which made our leisurely trip that much better. Unlike some B&B's, the Inn is a great place just to spend time relaxing. We had a lovely time just walking the grounds. Betsy is a fantastic host, who is happy to stay out of your way to let you enjoy your stay, and also happy to give you plenty of expert advice on where to go, what to see and where to eat. She is also a fabulous cook! The breakfasts were so delicious that we asked for the recipes, and upon checkout, Betsy gave me an envelope with recipes for each dish she had made, as well as a couple more. The location of the inn is also perfect: it is within reach of much of the Amish heartland, as well as other, local attractions (we spent one afternoon at Longwood gardens). Please don't tell *too* many people about this lovely place. It is such a find that I don't want to have trouble booking there the next time around.

Lovely hiistoric farm house B&B in the Lancaster, PA area. Wonderful Hosts Betsy and Greg Fitzpatrick made our stay even better with their extra special hospitality and fantastic breakfasts.
Betsy's knowledge of the area for sophisticated restaurants and her suggestions for sightseeing were perfect. This B&B is on beautiful grounds in the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch farm country and is often used for weddings and receptions.
Highly recomend this B&B and we would definitely go back there again.

We spent Memorial Day weekend in the Lancaster/Philly area and spent a night at the Boxwood Inn. It was the highlight of our trip. Betsy is an outstanding hostess and so incredibly friendly! The inn has amazing history, which was an added bonus to an already wonderful property. Betsy welcomed us, spoke about the history of the house and offered to show us the basement, which is like stepping back in time to the 1700s - stone walls, original doors from 1764 (?), even leather hinges! It was like staying with an old friend - we arrived in the afternoon, had a cup of coffee and biscotti and reviewed menus for dinner in nearby Ephrata. Betsy recommended Lillies, which was fabulous. We stayed in the Hunt room, which was huge! Cozy robes, a jacuzzi tub, and comfortable bed made the room outstanding. The property is gorgeous - calm, peaceful fields surround the house and Betsy's garden is lovely - peonies in bloom and a little stream in the back. I highly recommend the Boxwood Inn and can't wait to go back!

Visiting Pennsylvania for the first time, my wife & I somewhat arbitrarily chose the Boxwood Inn Bed & Breakfast as a central point for exploring Southeastern Pa (Amish country, Hershey, Gettysburg, & Brandywine valley). We really just wanted a place to hang our hats, but the Inn proved much more than just that. Beautiful grounds, a lot of history and excellent hosts (Betsy & Greg) made us want to tarry each morning during our 4-day visit. We stayed in the Hunt Room, but all the rooms in the main house looked very nice (and we didn't even get to see the carriage house!). The place is amazingly quiet considering its proximity to a little highway (Tobacco Road??). Breakfasts were wonderful, and Betsy spent more time than necessary acquainting us with the history of the inn, and helping us map out our daily itinerary. As nice as the Boxwood Inn is, be advised that the town of Akron is pretty small and not at all "touristy"; plan on driving out to other locales for sightseeing, shopping, restaurants, etc.

  • Liked — Historical house, dedicated guest areas, pretty grounds, great hosts.
  • Disliked — Lack of restaurants nearby.
  • Tips/Secrets — Great location for exploring SE Pennsylvania

My husband and I stayed in the Carriage House at the Boxwood Inn for an annivesary weekend. We enjoyed ourselves immensely! The Carriage House was pretty, spacious and comfortable. It stands apart from the main house and has a very quaint look on the outside, but the inside is beautifully decorated and has a minifridge, a sink and a microwave in addition to the whirlpool bath, fireplace, private balcony, king bed and sitting area. Betsy was an entertaining and friendly hostess and her breakfasts were fabulous! The historic home and grounds were private and attractive. We would stay here again and recommend it to others.
