This is our 4th time staying here. The rooms are nice and have everything we need and very functional. Every time we go to Altoona, we try to stay here. Difficult to book if Penn State is playing at home. Had to stay at a dump down the road the first night of our trip because Super 8 was full. Super 8 allowed us to check in at 11:30 a.m. so we could recuperate from our Sun Valley Motel experience. Thank you Super 8 for the wonderful hospitality.
I made a reservation for a one-night stay at this hotel about 6 weeks in advance, using a credit card. One week before our stay, our credit card number was compromised, and the credit card company issued us a new number; it didn't occur to me to contact the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel to check in, around 11 PM, they had given away our room and they were completely booked. They said they had run the credit card number when we didn't arrive by a certain time in the evening; when the number was denied, they cancelled the reservation. They had my correct cell number in their records, my cell was in my pocket, but THEY NEVER TRIED TO CALL ME. The person at the desk said "It's not our responsibility." Regardless of whether that is technically true, if you are in the business of serving people, you can take 2 minutes to do something nice. If the young man at the desk had called, I would have read him the new card number over the phone, and it would have been approved. If you decide to save money by staying here, be forewarned that they won't be going out of their way to help you.
