“2 out of 3 ain't bad....and it couldn't be worse”
Reviewed 3 May 2011

I tend to think of BBQ like this...you walk in the door and you smell the smokey-ness of the place. You can't wait for the fall off the bone goodness of the ribs and the smoke rings on the brisket. Well, this place isn't it.
It's a shak, alright. 6 beers on tap, a bar area, a small dining room, and a couple of tables in the bar area.
Six pac, yup, you can buy a couple while your there....
BBQ??? No Way. The food reminded me of stuff cooked in a crock pot. The ribs, no smoke/bbq flavor at all. The brisket was more of stew, kinda of like pulled beef, if there is such a thing, and loaded with fat, not the sliced brisket you think of with bbq. The pulled pork was the best of the worst, out of the three. BBQ sauce, I'm guessing was bottled.
Our sides were macaroni salad, which had a yellow tint to it and tasted like it came from a 5 pound bucket from a supermarket. Baked beans had the flavor of heated up Pork and Beans. Oh, and the cornbread...soggy, which means it was probably frozen and store bought as well.
This is a new location for them...our GPS still had the old one and part of me wished we just went elsewhere. Call before you go, be ready as the waitstaff doesn't wear much clothing and seems to like to attract attention. Took a long, long time to get the food and they weren't too busy.

“Very informal but clean and good food value”
Reviewed 18 August 2009

While in Altoona we found this restaurant to have good food at a fair price. I had the ribs which were surprisingly good. My wife had an Italian dish that was excellent. The atmosphere is spartan, but clean and friendly.
