Bold is the only tapas restaurant we have found in many miles in any direction of Altoona, PA, and possibly the only truly unique restaurant in our community with a "big city" flare. In a city dominated by corporate cookie-cutter cuisine and locally owned restaurants that do not change their menu in 10 years - Bold is a clear cut standout. It is the only non-ethnic or theme-based locally owned restaurant in our region. The quality of the ingredients, their presentation and the innovative menus that constantly change could make this restaurant competitive even in the large highly-competitive markets of NYC, Chicago or San Fransisco. Bold has adapted locally grown/made ingredients to support the local community and at the same time adapted their menu to appeal to a wide spectrum of diners. Prices are lower than you would pay for comparable dishes in large cities, but slightly higher(10-15%) than found in your typical restaurant in our region. But with flavor and selection unique to the place alone. There are menu selections in both large and small plates to satisfy even the most unique dietary requirements. Seafood, all the meat groups, vegan and pasta selections are all to be found. A large wine selection, personalized attention, intimate atmosphere and excellent/friendly service all help to round out the dining experience. Not to mention locally created, made fresh daily deserts. This is truly the best dining experience in central PA. As for price difference with other restaurants - I will just say that if you have dined in large cities as frequently as we have - then you will easily see the bargain for what you get at Bill Sell's Bold.
