“Good value and pet friendly!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2013

I've stayed at this hotel a few times over the last two years. I find it to be safe and clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms open directly to outside which is convenient when you are traveling with pets. I had to change the date on my original reservation and confirmed that the changes had been made correctly with the local hotel by the national reservation center. I will stay there again in the future.

What a dump. The room was dirty. Weird people hanging around. A lot of bikers and truckers leaving at 5:00 AM. Very loud. The room smelled. No ice machine. If you wanted ice you had to go to the front desk and ask for it. The front desk is in a totally different building abot 200 feet away. Staff was rude, Will never stay there again.

...then this is the place for you. The pictures on the site are misleading at best. It may be a blessing that smell-o-vision hasn't be invented yet because that alone would discourage you from booking a room here. Really enjoyed finding a cupcake stuck to the carpeting next to the sofabed. And by "stuck" I mean plastered. The sofa bed mattress looked so bad I could only assume someone had been murdered on it. We had to venture back down to the office to get pillows which were dirty and flat. Discovered a short time later that the sofa bed had no sheets so we tried calling to the front office and got no answer. Had to venture back there to get sheets (and deliver the cupcake) and was basically treated like I was insane for expecting there to be sheets available without asking and no unwanted snacks. The blanket on the worn out king-sized bed was riddled with holes. We found almonds on the floor at the base of the bed and bug remnants on the box spring. The shower would not drain so it was like taking a shower and a bath all at the same time. We probably shouldn't have expected much for $59 a night, but this was seriously beyond unacceptable. We were there about 12 hours which was about 11 hours and 58 minutes too long.
I should note that when we checked out, the manager on duty gave us a $10 refund on the room charge. Thanks.

Room Tip: If you want a good room, book one at another hotel.

The motel was very run down and did not look anything like the picture on the website. The room was very damp and smelled like mildew and the carpeted floor was wet. The bathroom smelled like pee. Luckily we only had to spend a few hours the room to sleep. I wish I would have spent a few extra dollars and went somewhere else. Would definitely not recommend!

I stayed here for two nights and had absolutely no complaints. The room was quite large and well furnished with a table and 2 chairs, a nice desk with a nearby outlet, lots of lights and a downright HUGE counter beside the sink. It is so nice to have a place to spread out all the toiletries. There was also a refrigerator and microwave although the room was not advertised as having one. The air conditioner/heater was quiet, easy to operate and had good air circulation. There was a large coat rack with lots of hangers. The water was hot and there was plenty of it. There was lots of storage space in large drawers and 2 night stands. You could settle in for an extended stay and be quite comfortable. Based on the hotel's proximity to the VA hospital I suspect that is what many people do when they have relatives in the hospital.

The check-in process was very quick. The staff seemed to be all mid-Pennsylvania locals and were friendly and nice.

The only slight annoyances were that the fluorescent light over the sink wasn't positioned well for shaving, there was no telephone or alarm clock (which could be bad if you don't have another way to get wakened in the morning) and the breakfast was pretty sparse (waffles, oatmeal and English muffin were only choices). For this price, though, you can buy your own milk and a box of cereal and still be cheaper than staying at a hotel with a larger breakfast choice!

I'd stay again with no hesitation.

I was quite disturbed with the bad reviews I read as I set visiting a sick relative In a hospital knowing I had to go to this motel late that night.

I have no idea where all the negative statements came from. The room, sheets and bathroom were clean. There is a reclining chair and also another chair to sit in. Towels were normal size and not tiny as some people said. No smells in the room.

I had a small freezer, frig and microwave.

For the money you cannot beat this!

There is not a pool but could not remove the rating for it. Also the fitness center I do not know if there is one. And could not remove the rating

After seeing so many negative reviews of the Econo Lodge, I had to set the record straight. The room was clean and quiet and the bed was comfortable. WiFi worked great and there was a basic continental breakfast which was typical of motels at this price range. If you want an inexpensive place to stay when passing through Altoona, the Econo Lodge is fine.
