Cranberry Run Campground
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

After reading the reviews, I was confident that this would be a nice place to stay with the family for the weekend. I knew before we even fully entered the campground that it was a mistake. To put it mildly, the place was run down. We drove by the playground, which didn't even look safe. The vegetation around the small exposed bank of the lake was overgrown, so I wondered about the logistics of fishing. The main office was overpowering with cigarette smoke, but I could easily overlook that had it not been for the look and feel of the entire place. The sites are carved in to the side of a mountain, and were either full if jagged stones or gravel and we're not level at all! There was nowhere to comfortable or accommodating to pitch a tent which our friends who met us there needed. We have a camper and so that was less of an issue, however trying to pull through a space under very tight spaces (sites were practically on top of each other) was extremely difficult, not to mention we were afraid of popping a tire.
Needless to say, we left about 15 minutes after arriving. The office REFUSED to refund any of our money, even though we had just paid moments before AND there were tons of sites open (gee, no surprise there). I can't imagine where we would have even entertained the kids had we all stayed.

We called up because we need a last minute stay on 4th of July weekend bc our previous plans didn't work out. We were only 10 min away & then said come on over! They had sites available & they even let us pick one out. They were over the top in accommodating our family & 2 dogs especially with a last minute notice. We will definitely visit again!!

This is not an over-commercialized resort...thank goodness! We wanted to go camping, get away from it all, and spend some time in nature. Cranberry Run was perfect for just that. My friend and I did not want to pitch a tent in a field somewhere, we wanted something a bit more rustic, and this is exactly what we found.
Upon arrival, Linda knew exactly who we were as soon as we pulled up - we didn't even have to tell her our name. We purposely chose a tent site without electric/water, as we wanted to "rough it." There were several wooded sites for tent camping, yet close to the bathrooms. Linda picked a site for us that she thought we would enjoy and the staff led us to the site on their golf cart and made sure we had firewood. They even offered to deliver it for us. We were there early in the week and there were other sites open - after exploring a bit, we decided we might like a different site better, and Linda happily allowed us to move to the other one with no problem and no questions asked.
The area where we stayed was quiet and wooded, but with a relatively flat area for our tent. We had plenty of room for our table, fire area, and tent. We knew that Linda and her staff were available if we needed anything, but they were not intrusive in any way. The store is small, but carried many basic essentials. Also, the campground, while remote, is minutes from town for other shopping needs.
Our second morning as we were preparing to make breakfast, 2 baby deer stumbled out of the woods along the edge of our campsite. They seemed quite startled to see us and ran across the way to the safety of their mom and proceeded to nurse. It was pretty awesome and we got some great pictures of mama and her babies!
We went hiking two different days and saw beautiful waterfalls. Linda made sure we had directions to where we were going. The second day, they inquired about our hike and looked at all of our pictures with interest, as if we had known each other for years.
While we were looking for a more rustic experience, we did want bathrooms and showers. We were pleasantly surprised by the nice, clean, well-stocked bathrooms and attached laundry. There was plenty of hot water, and the bathrooms were kept cool and clean.
There is also an above-ground 4 ft deep pool surrounded by a nice deck and numerous tables and chairs. The pool was clean and comfortable for swimming and splashing about. Even though we had checked out and it was the 4th of July (busy day), Linda allowed us to stay and swim for as long as we wanted before we hit the road. There was also a nice open area where we were able to throw the ball around.
If you are looking for paved roads or shiny glamorous "camping," then Cranberry Run is probably not for you. But if you are looking for good, old-fashioned camping and want to be treated well, without paying a fortune, then by all means book a campsite at Cranberry Run. We hope to come back to the Poconos again, and can't think of anywhere else we'd enjoy more than we enjoyed our time at Cranberry Run.
We specifically went on this trip to do some hiking where we could see waterfalls. Bushkill Falls is a great attraction and has well groomed trails for all hiking abilities. It is a short 20 minute drive from the campground and easy to find. We enjoyed it very much. We also took a more rugged, non-commercial hike on the Hornbeck Trail which took us to Indian Ladders Falls, which we highly recommend for more avid hikers. It was worth the 4 mile round trip hike to see them. Their beauty is unparalleled. And again, this was maybe a 30 minute drive from the campground.
All in all, we had a lovely time and wished we could have stayed longer.

We camped over the Labor Day weekend. I thought it was neat how the campground was basically mountain side, our site overlooking a cute little valley. (We even saw deer eating in that valley every morning). The pool was nice. The bathrooms were kept clean & there was always soap, paper & hot water. Sites were spacious. Close to shops & anything you could need, yet you feel like your in the middle of no where. Our only complaint was damp & moldy fire wood. After collecting sticks logs and twigs, we were able to add the bought firewood on the fire. Over all, we would definitely stay here again. Thanks Frank & Linda!

We made a last minute decision to stay at cranberry run campground. We were initially put off by the negative reviews since we were first time campers and wanted a great experience. But we decided last minute to just give it a chance and we are glad we did. We were 2 couples (4 people total). As soon as we pulled up, we were welcomed by Frank and Linda. We asked for 1 tent site with electric and water for 2 days. Linda told us the price and asked Frank to give us 2 sites (68 and 69)! We even asked Frank if we can see the site before renting and he was very nice about it. He asked us to follow him to the site and once we got there, we checked to make sure the electric and water was working. It was a really nice grassy tent site. We paid him on the site and he even came back later with our receipt.

There was a bathroom about few mins away from our site and it usually very clean. The showers were much much nicer than we expected. There was always hot water and stocked soap/paper towels. Everything was kept clean. We had no complaints at all. Frank also did an occasional drive and asked us how we were doing and if we needed firewood. Other than that, we were not disturbed at all. We did get heavy rain one of the 2 days but our site did not have any sort of flooding. We also felt safe leaving our tent and other belongings at the site when we were out. We did not use the pool or game room so I cannot comment on that. I did use the Wi-fi to find things to do around there and it worked great. We came in with our own wood, being first time campers, and Frank nicely informed us that we weren't allowed to bring outside wood. He did not confiscate it or give us any trouble about it though. We did end up buying the wood from him the 2nd night after heavy rain and his wood was just fine. It lasted for about an hour since we put it all in at one time.

Overall it was a first great camping experience and it was made much better by Frank and linda. I would definitely recommend this site to anyone. The negative reviews seem to be older and they have been improved largely. I would encourage anyone who is having second thoughts to just give it a try.

Tent sites have almost no shade. Pool was closed for everybody because somebody misbehaved in the pool that day. Might be a better deal if you want to rent a camper on site, does not seem to be that good for tent campers.
They do not allow outside wood, but the wood that they sell is overpriced and very wet.

I'm happy we decided to give Cranberry Run Campground a try even though I read negative
reviews. My husband and me and our three children stayed July 4-6, 2013. We brought our own tents and chose the section w/ water and electric. We really had a great time! We loved the pool with the deck, the playground, game room, laundry room and yes even hot showers. Where the main office is located they sell coffee: $1.50, Ice cream, chips, T-Shirts, Sweatshirts etc. The owners Linda and Frank were very polite and you can tell they genuinely care about their guests and property, Frank is even nice to ride in his golf cart to make sure his guests are okay. I must say I have never gotten so many mosquito bites in my entire life (lots of mosquitos and bugs) but remember it's a campground..the great outdoors. We definitely recommend this campground, also the neighborhood where the campsite is located is beautiful, beautiful homes, we also saw deer’s while driving to the outlet stores which is like a 15 minute drive! :)
