This hotel describes itself as "Completely remodeled" This is not even close to the truth. It stinks, the elevator isn't close to being safe, the furniture has stains that need to be addressed by a crime lab, dirt is everywhere, the beds would be turned away by Goodwill, the staff would be better suited in a 7-11. Don't ruin your vacation, stay anywhere but here, please!

I was recently in Aiken on business and found the Hotel Aiken to be quite charming and delightful. While there I needed a haircut and asked the Hotel staff for a nearby establishment. They actually had a hair salon in the hotel with a professional hair stylist. This made for a wonderful experience doing my time there, since she (her name was Brenda) told me where the best local places were to eat (and they were)!

I'd go back to Hotel Aiken again (if just to get a haircut)!

This hotel is a dump! The smell of mildew is overpowering from the minute you walk in the lobby. It's an old hotel that has not been well kept. There is NO charm. The rooms are dark and dreary. The only good things I have to say is that the staff is VERY helpful and the rooms are clean.

The Hotel Aiken is a pleasure and a bargain with an Old South charm.
(The regular rate is just $55 for the old building and $45 in the motel wing next door.) Built in 1898, but under new ownership in the past three years, significant renovations have taken a sleepy property to a higher level of service, beauty and comfort. The hotel is billed by the owner as the only "full service hotel" in Aiken - that's because its rich cousin, The Willcox Inn, also built in 1898 and just down the street, doesn't have a pool or pub. The Hotel Aiken is in the middle of this beautiful small city's downtown restaurant district. Started as a summer resort in antebellum days, Aiken was a major winter resort for the Northeastern polo and horse racing crowd throughout the 20th century. Both sports are still prominent here and fine golf courses are all around. The Augusta National is 20 miles away, but the Palmetto G.C., built in 1892, is just about 2 miles down Whiskey Road. Those two facts are probably irrelvant because you won't be able to play the former and you'll be lucky to get on the latter, but they are mentioned as reference to the extremely high cliber of golf courses in the area.
The Hotel Aiken has a golf package with the Aiken Golf Club, built in 1912, and there are a dozen fantastic courses you can play for a daily fee within a few miles. The hotel has comfortable and well decorated, if not overly large rooms, and you'll have a window airconditioning unit, but the Old South atmosphere is palpable - and the Polo Tavern is the most interesting place to meet people in this highly unusual town.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Aiken is the perfect place to "play & stay" in downtown Aiken! Originally built in 1898 the main building of the Hotel Aiken has gone through many changes and a series of major and continuous renovations since 2001, with the accent on retaining the historical feel of this landmark building whilst providing all the modern amenities one would expect from a contemporary Hotel, such as free use of hard-wired HSIA in all rooms. We also offer more moderate accommodations in our courtyard building, where the rooms are basic, standard motel rooms. We have three on site bars, which makes Hotel Aiken one of downtown Aiken’s most popular watering holes. We have live entertainment on Wednesday-Saturday nights until 2AM and are open seven days a week. Hotel Aiken is centrally located and considered "party central" almost every day of the week. Please keep this in mind when making your reservations at our hotel. ... more   less
