We find it impossible to believe that any positive reviews would be posted here. Read them with skepticism. I agree fully with the negative ones. This tired old place shows no evidence of the purported renovation. It would have the potential to be "charming" if it was clean, but that's only the beginning of the problem that led this reviewer to abandon the property in the middle of the night . . .

To be fair, the innkeeper had reported that "we have a lively bar." We were very clear on our disinterest in such, and on our need for a good and quiet night's rest. With the innkeeper guiding us, we selected a distant room, "You'll not hear any noise here." We overlooked the decay and were attracted by the history and location.

At around 11PM the hotel's true character was revealed. This is not a hotel; it is a facility catering to drunken revelers! Screaming hordes took over the facility, all through the lobby, into the streets, out in the pool area and courtyard, up and down the stairwells.

Our phone didn't work, so it took a midnight visit to the lobby to register our discontent. Shouting was required to even be heard, and the desk clerk asserted that no other lodging would be available at any other place. Empathy was absent. We left, insisting that a credit card not be charged.

Do not expect quaint, intown charm here. Sleep is not possible. This is a terrible shame and waste of property.

this was the favorite place to go as a teenager. we'd have time to rest in clean, comfortable and cheap surroundings. the rms were quite nice and they didn't cost us much. since i joined the us marine corps, there have only been 2 hotels i enjoyed more than Hotel Aiken: 1) The Omni Hotel in Newport News, VA and 2) Hotel One Day in Okinawa, Japan.

Thank Fredrick S

This hotel describes itself as "Completely remodeled" This is not even close to the truth. It stinks, the elevator isn't close to being safe, the furniture has stains that need to be addressed by a crime lab, dirt is everywhere, the beds would be turned away by Goodwill, the staff would be better suited in a 7-11. Don't ruin your vacation, stay anywhere but here, please!

I was recently in Aiken on business and found the Hotel Aiken to be quite charming and delightful. While there I needed a haircut and asked the Hotel staff for a nearby establishment. They actually had a hair salon in the hotel with a professional hair stylist. This made for a wonderful experience doing my time there, since she (her name was Brenda) told me where the best local places were to eat (and they were)!

I'd go back to Hotel Aiken again (if just to get a haircut)!

This hotel is a dump! The smell of mildew is overpowering from the minute you walk in the lobby. It's an old hotel that has not been well kept. There is NO charm. The rooms are dark and dreary. The only good things I have to say is that the staff is VERY helpful and the rooms are clean.
