Many people don't even realize Hitchcock Woods is "there" as it is right in the middle of Aiken. It's not developed but has many trails for hiking/walking as well as horseback riding. Don't go in without a map unless you're an experienced hiker. Great place to walk all year long but Spring and Fall are extra special.

This place is spectacular. Not fancy or thrilling, just quietly and amazingly beautiful, right in the heart of town. A former polo enthusiast donated several hundred acres of land, which is quite properly attended and maintained. The sole purpose of it is to enjoy, either by foot, or on horseback. You also may take your dog. It is totally free, and the natural setting is superb. Go and enjoy!

Visited Hitchcock Woods with our two dogs for the first time on a Sunday afternoon. Didn't know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised by the beauty and natural trails. We obtained a map at the entrance gate and were able to navigate the woods with very little problem. Only issue we encountered was trying to find a place to parking in a residential area where "no parking" signs were posted.

Larger than Central Park be ready to wear your walking shoes or bring your mount. Words cannot describe the visceral experience of this woods. Be sure to grab a map at the entrance (s) before entering so you don't get lost. NO one has ever been left in the woods.

If you're up for a good walk, go here. Bring your walking/hiking shoes with you. Soft ground, pine straw and the smell of the 800 acres of the Lablolly pine forest is well worth it. A hidden gem for those who enjoy nature and/or aerobic exercise.
