“Small but lovely !”

Although Abilene Zoo is pretty small in comparison to some , it is clean and well laid out and a great place to visit ! You are allowed to take a picnic in which many families do especially if they have small kids !

“One of the best zoos in the US”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014 via mobile

This zoo is fabulous! The flamingoes grab your attention immediately then you can expect to be amused by all of the different monkeys. The giraffe exhibit is great....you can feed them from atop a bridge, getting up close and personal! The big cats are great and there is so much more.....birds, reptiles, zebras! And if that is not enough, there is a train that goes around the grounds and gives a good look at everything. Even the gift shop is great!

“Great Day At The Zoo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 March 2014

This was our first time at this zoo and we enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and helpful and greeted us and answered questions as needed. We came with a family of 4 for spring break. The zoo was a well-kept area and had a good variety of exhibits. It was a relatively cold day around 50 degrees with the wind blowing so many animals were sleeping or trying to stay warm huddling up against walls or in corners. We missed several of them but you can understand some were not meant to be in this cold environment. The reptile area is closed off but being renovated. Not sure how long until it is open so our kids were disappointed. There is a small train ride for $2.00 extra that might be worth it if you have very small kids but didn't appeal to our 10 and 7 year old. Overall a great day of walking and looking. Bring coupons from on-line or hotel lobby offerings to save a few bucks. Nice day!

“We love this place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2014

We have been coming here since my daughter was a baby and she chose to come here for her 7th birthday this year! Every time we visit there is something new and improvements have been made. My older kids are 9 and 13 and never once heard a single complaint...we were all thoroughly entertained for at least 2-3 hours. Needless to say, we will be back many, many times!

“Abilene Zoo is all in a day's outing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2014 via mobile

This is a small zoo. It is best to go when warm and sunny, but not scorching hot.
We went when the temps were in the 70's. The zoo cost a few dollars per person.
At the time of purchase, one may also buy food for the animals, and a train ticket.
To be noted: the train is actually a tram ride around the park..approxmately a 12 min ride.
The zoo animals are your basic, and there is a reptile house, and a shelter that houses native west Texas plants, and critters. There is a play area near the reptile house with sand and large tortoise shells for children to climb. There are a couple of places to eat within the Zoo itself.
Outside of the zoo, there is a large area with a lake that dogs are allowed. Picnic area with a park and play area for children.
