“We Wish We Would Have Stayed Somewhere Else”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

There was so much wrong it's hard to know where to start.

We checked in and received our room keys. Our assigned room was one of the rooms you have to access from the outside of the building. We found our room and saw the door to our room was in the middle of a huge puddle.

After walking through the puddle (see pictures) and opening the door to our room we immediately knew it was a smokers room. We returned to the front desk and explained that we had reserved a non-smoking room and would like to be put in a non-smoking room. The front desk responded they were at capacity and had no non-smoking rooms available. We could try back later to see if there were any cancellations but we were stuck with the smokers room.

Resigned to having to stay in a smoking room because all the other hotels in the area were also sold out we returned to the room. After another walk through the puddle to get back into our room we noticed that if the room had been vacuumed it had not been vacuumed very well. We also noticed one of the bulbs in the ceiling fan was burnt out. We also discovered the WiFi signal we were using in the lobby while waiting to check in was too weak to connect to in our room. We scanned for another signal and had nothing. We had no WiFi available in our room.

We were in Abilene for a wedding and decided to shower, get dressed, and not let the crappy conditions at our expensive hotel get us down. Using the bathroom we discovered a whole new set of complaints. The water pressure in the shower was so low it was almost impossible to wash our hair. There was a vent cover for an exhaust fan but there was no fan and no exhaust other than leaving the bathroom doors open; yeah, that was pleasant. The paint on the bathroom ceiling was peeling, the hinges on the bathroom doors were incredibly rusty, and one of the bathroom door knobs was falling off.

After the wedding we returned to our room. The puddle was still there so we again had to walk through it to get into our room. We were tired and discovered that despite it reeking of cigarette smoke the bed was pretty comfortable and we slept well.

In the morning we headed out through the puddle in front of our door and inside to the restaurant for the 'Made to Order' breakfast that came with our stay. We soon learned 'Made to Order' meant something different than what we expected. Would you like bacon or no meat? Would you like scrambled eggs or no eggs? Would you like home fried potatoes or no potatoes? Whatever, we didn't have to go far for it and the scrambled eggs weren't the worst we've ever eaten.

After breakfast we headed back to our room. We had to cross through the puddle once again to get to our room. If you're tired of reading about the puddle imagine having to walk through it every time you want to enter or leave your room. While we were trying to shower, pack, and get out we noticed that a member of the housekeeping staff repeatedly came and peeped in through the window in our door to see if were were gone yet.

The room cost at the MCM Elegante Suites is very high for the area. We had read good reviews and were looking forward to our stay. We were severely disappointed with this hotel and will not book a room here again. Our advice is to stay away.

Room Tip: We were told the rooms you enter from inside the main hotel are better than the room we had.

The staff were helpful and pleasant. The room was large and comfortable. Everything was well maintained. The beds are super comfortable with a generous amount of pillows. The mini kitchen is a plus. The cookies and water left in the kitchen by the service staff was a nice touch. The pool was warm enough for comfort. The evening happy hour and full made to order breakfast were very enjoyable. A very nice stay.

I stayed one night here on a business trip & ate 3 meals there- all buffets. The hotel is an Embassy Suites style facility (maybe it used to be one?). Check in was fairly quick, rooms were clean but clearly not newly furbished. Thermostat in my room even set at 60 degrees never cooled down the room & hot water was more like really warm but not hot. Free drinks (limit of 4) in the evening during happy hour was a plus. Mexican buffet in the evening was really not good- breakfast buffet in morning was better. I told clerk at check out about room thermostat- she seemed unconcerned. Given a choice- not sure I would pay to stay here again.

We live about an hour away and wanted to do a small getaway for our anniversary. We had been to the Elegante to eat previously but had never stayed in their rooms. Checked in about 3:30 on a Saturday and the process was flawless. Great feature - used my debit card and no further holds on the card!

When we walked into the room the front area had a sofa, chair w/ottoman, table with four chairs, a small bar with a mini fridge and microwave underneath, a kitchen sink, and mirror. There was a door into the restroom where there was another sink in this room as well as a door to the bedroom. The bedroom boasted the MOST COMFORTABLE BED EVER! As well as it's own door to the restroom.

While there were only two of us we made use of the table to put a puzzle together. Husband really enjoyed there being a tv in each room although the swivel mount in the living area is useless because the cord is too short.

Our room came w/complimentary hot breakfast each day, and four drinks per adult each day. This was a FANTASTIC feature as we are drinkers! We were at the end of the atrium and the breakfast noise was not able to be heard in our room. The rooms were warm even though we stayed in January it was about sixty outside and our AC was turned all the way down to 60 and it was still warm. Discovered the window in the bedroom opened and that solved the problem.

Overall this is one of the BEST hotels we have stayed in. They have a location in Dallas that we are considering using when we travel there in March.

INDOOR POOL IS A BONUS! HOT TUB IS FANTASTIC AS IS THE POOL. FROM 11PM-12AM EACH NIGHT IS ADULTS ONLY TIME SO NO SCREAMING CHILDREN RUNNING AROUND. THERE IS ALSO A POOL MONITOR WHO SITS IN THE POOL AREA AND REQUIRES CHILDREN TO BE SUPERVISED. NICE!

This hotel provides large rooms, all suites, with a separate bedroom with a large and incredibly comfortable bed, a modern and bright bathroom, a separate lounge area and a small kitchenette with microwave, fridge, sink and coffee making facilities.
Vouchers were provided with our room rate offering complimentary wines, beers and some spirits (4 drinks per person) each evening from around 5.30pm until 7pm. This was nice to have.
Breakfast was also included in our rate, this was a basic served buffet. Not extensive but adequate enough to start the day with.
The staff were great. We didn't have time to use the pool but it looked very clean. We ate once in the restaurant and the food was good, the menu was varied.
Overall, a great hotel offering great facilities and the location worked for us.

This was my third business trip to Abilene (and the MCM Elegante) in the past two years. The most conclusive sentiment that I can offer is that when I hear that my agency is meeting in Abilene, I feel a bit of relief. My stays at this facility are consistently comfortable and effective.

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful at check-in. In spite of the fact that we had several colleagues arriving at one time, the check-in procedure moved along nicely.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. The beds are actually more comfortable than my bed at home. The small "kitchenettes" in each room allow guests to bring home leftovers from dinner or plan for a healthy and / or budget friendly stay.

The conference rooms are quiet and comfortable. My agency has met our business objectives each time we've met in Abilene.

MCM Elegante also offers some nice "quality of life" services. There is a modest pool and hot tub that I can imagine would be a nice attraction to families with children or fitness swimmers. The fitness center is small but adequate for staying active while at the hotel, and I have not yet had to wait to use my preferred piece of equipment.

The free continental breakfast saves time and money, and I believe the quality to be well above average. Guests also get drink coupons for "happy hour" at the bar, which provides a safe option for guests who wish to drink and / or socialize. In spite of the happy hour, the hotel is safe and quiet.

MCM Elegante is located in a part of Abilene that is within easy walking distance of diverse retail and dining options.

I am grateful to the staff of MCM Elegante for their efforts, and I look forward to my next visit to Abilene.
