“Best Value for your Money in the Valley!”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

The Alamo Inn is run by an excellent staff, most importantly Keith, who will make sure your every need is met while in the Valley area. There is a clean, comfortable room or house to meet your needs during your stay. Knowing that most likely you are a bird watching enthusiast, the Alamo Inn provides a well stocked refrigerator for those early mornings, for a nominal fee. The accommodations are clean, comfortable and very, very reasonably priced. The Alamo Inn is an excellent value for your stay in the Valley area of Texas. Be sure to book well in advance, as this gem books fast!

Room Tip: All rooms have at least a small refrigerator and microwave. Several have sleeper sofas or a roll aw...

I have been staying at the Alamo Inn for upwards of 20 years as a birding tour leader and an individual guest. The level of service is always very high, guests are made to feel welcome from the moment they check in, and any need is attended to--be it a special breakfast item, emergency laundry, picnic lunches, directions to a desired bird, or providing a field guide from their well-stocked bookstore. I have pointed many friends there over the years and will continue to do so. Ask about other properties owned by the Inn for families requiring multiple rooms, or lodging with wheelchair access.

Room Tip: The most charming rooms are in the main building. Value seekers should ask about the annex.

This is a charming place to stay. It is so very nice to have the option of sitting on a real sofa in a living area separate from the bedroom. The rooms are full of interesting objects and vintage furniture. Kitchenettes have at least a coffepot, toaster, and small fridge and plates, cups, glasses, flatware. Plus wi-fi and cable TV. All for the price of a bargain motel. We stay here on every trip to the Valley.

Seems this place is famous with birder-watchers coming to the Valley. We had it recommended to us by two separate birders and are glad we followed thru on their advice. Would have liked to have stayed here for the duration of our week in the Valley but this place was booked up by the time our party got its schedule organized. They have a solid clientele even though spring migration is not yet underway.

For our two nights @ The Alamo we stayed in two different venues...the main building the first night and on the second night, one of the houses that is also part of the Inn's operations. Although unpacking/repacking could be considered a pain, it gave us a quick insight into this very unique operation. Keith, the proprietor gave us a wonderfully well-organized, detailed and helpful orientation to the operation of the Inn, the main building and our room as well as a drive by of the house we would stay for the second night.

Our second floor room was an apartment, well furnished with antiques/kitsch/distressed vintage decorations and furniture. Loved it.
Browsing the common first floor kitchen/eating area and birding store after hours in the absence of the proprietor was a strange but delightful feeling...definitely one of trust and privilege; for a wannabe antique collector and birder, it was sort of like being a kid in a candy store.

When we returned from a full day of birding on day two, we relocated to the Ellis street residence and settled in comfortably to this spacious home that sleeps six travellers. A more modern milieu than the main lodge, it is still comfortably put together with interesting furniture and decorations. We did not get an opportunity to take advantage of the backyard that is being turned into a native plant sanctuary for birds and bugs. Oh well, maybe next time.

I'd love to be a picker charged with trolling the curio shops and auctions to stock and decorate the Inn... someone has had a blast putting this together.

We recently stayed at the Inca Dove cottage at the Alamo Inn while on a birding trip. We could not have been more pleased with the accommodations, service, and overall friendliness at Alamo Inn. Keith, the owner, was an excellent host and if we had needed anything, he was a phone call away. The Rio Grande Valley is a special place to see birds and there is no better place to stay than Alamo Inn which caters to birders.

We loved the night we spent at the Alamo Inn. Keith is a charming host, and provided us with excellent personal service upon check-in. The breakfast pantry is well stocked with healthy and tasty items so you can select what you want at your convenience. The Inn was very quiet and restful, which was so appreciated after a day of birding in the area - and the Inn is well situated to take advantage of many birding hotspots in the area. We were very comfortable in the apartment and could easily see staying there for a much longer visit. Meeting other birders was a bonus! Next time, we will stay longer.

very relaxing and comfortable place to stay, all amenities on the doorstep! I would certainly stay here again. Great for all the man birding sites from the coast to the Falcon Dam, and they are some of the finest!
