“We'll Definitely Stay Here Again!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2010

We stayed in the Hampton Inn in Alpine while visiting family and friends. Our entire experience was positive - from booking our room directly with the hotel through the checkout.

We booked our room with Jeremy, who was very pleasant and friendly. He also happened to be the person working at the front desk when we checked in. One of this Hampton's ammenities is free cookies in the lobby from 3 - 6 p.m. After my kids (ages 9 and 11) ate the last cookies, Jeremy went to bake more cookies!

This is a new hotel, so everything is still very clean and fresh. Our room was immaculate! We had a room with two queen beds, a flat-screen TV, and a desk. The pillowtop beds had spotlessly clean white duvet covers and several fluffy pillows. The bathroom is spacious and had the basics - shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, lotion, and a hairdryer. Our kids forgot their toothbrushes, and we were able to get complimentary toothbrushes/paste at the front desk. The rooms are very quiet and we heard no outside noise.

There is also an indoor pool and hot tub available to guests. The pool is heated, and the temperature was perfect. The only thing that would improve the pool experience is to have larger towels available -- the ones that are there are very tiny.

There is a continental breakfast available from 6 - 10 a.m. There is a fairly good selection. The first morning, there were cheese omelets (previously frozen, I think), bacon, English muffins, toast, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and breakfast bars, along with juice and coffee. The second morning, the selection was about the same, but there were scrambled eggs, potatoes, and tortillas in place of the omelets and bacon. The breakfast area is spacious, with plenty of comfortable seating.

The only complaint that we had during our stay is that our bill reflected that we were charged $0.35 per call for four local calls we made. The Guest Services book in the room stated that local calls were free. I called the front desk, and the charges were reversed. Not sure exactly why we were billed for calls in the first place; however, the problem was correctly quickly and with little hassle.

All of the members of the staff that we had contact with were very friendly and professional.

We have plans to be back in Alpine this July, and we are going to book our room at the Hampton Inn very soon!

The room was lovely - bed and bedding plush. Beautiful bath. New hotel so when I had to sleep on the sofa bed, I thought it would be fine. It was okay, but I would have thought that management would have opted for a better mattress for the sofa bed. Biggest negative was that the hotel doesn't have satellite TV and the cable TV was snowy and fuzzy. The front desk said they would contact the provider in the morning. Don't know if it got fixed.
Heater in our room worked fine. Room was very quiet.

We stayed here last night, and found almost everything, stupendous. It is a very new hotel, and the bed didn't even look like it had ever been slept in. As you might expect everything was extremely clean, and tidy. The breakfast was put out a 6am, which we liked since we had to get on the road early. The breakfast has the regular continental, but with an omelet, and biscuits and gravy. The eggs were like rubber as they always are. I wish these places would just quit trying to say they have hot eggs, when they use frozen/microwaved eggs... Yucch! However I will say they tried.

The only thing we did notice was the temp. control in the room was a bit wacky. It was either too cold, or too hot. We eventually just turned it off, and the temp was perfect. This might be a bug they just haven't worked out in the new system, since this is their first heating season.
Finally, the staff was excellent. Everyone asked many times if we needed anything or if everything was satisfactory. Well trained and attentive!

Our stay at this hotel was outstanding all around. The rooms were very comfortable, the service was great and the continental breakfast was perfect for us. We were located in a super location, didn't hear the infamous train at all. We will be going back.

The Hampton Inn in Alpine, Texas just opened in July of 2009. It is typical of the Hampton Inn chain hotels. However, it has a lovely lobby with a flat screen HDTV and connections for laptops. We watched a football game there one evening. The hotel has a pool, hot tub and exercise facility. They are also building a veranda in back of the hotel (see photo) and plan on serving drinks there. The staff was friendly. The rooms (including the bed) were comfortable; the A/C worked fine. I would highly recommend this hotel!
