“Worth the wait”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

This little restaurant, across the tracks, in the small west Texas town of Alpine, is well-worth the time to stop. It stands out in an area with many good Mexican restaurants. It is family run and fairly authentic and the food is prepared to order. Because of this, service can be slow so don't go there if you're in a hurry. The food is so good, you should just lean back and enjoy the wait.

“Hidden gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014 via mobile

We were in town for one night with our 8 year old grandson and chose here based on the reviews here.
We had the cheese nachos first and they were delicious!! The chips were possibly flour tortilla or something they were so flavorful and they used the
Mexican white cheese ..yummy!!
Hubby had an enchilada plate and it was plentiful and good. Not too spicy which we like. I had the beef taco plate. They were the best tacos ever!! Juicy delicious meat piled in the shell.
Grandson had a huge bean and cheese burrito.
Bottle drinks in glass bottles!!!
The only reason they didn't get a top rating is because they must make all food to Order because it was slow and there was no "chips and Salsa" served while we waited.
Make no mistake we will go back!!

No beer, wine or liquor. Bland food. Dusty and depressing environment. Limited menu of Tex-Mex.
Friendly, nice server.

“Never got served....”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2014

If you have all the time in the world to wait for lunch, this is your place....The menu consists of standard Mexican fare, we were very hungry, and given the place seemed very popular, we sat down and ordered. After close to an hour's wait, we asked when our food would be ready, and were told that there were two orders ahead of ours, so we would need to wait another 30 minutes, time we no longer had. So we walked out and ate at Cowdogs food truck....which was very good, with quick and friendly service!

The right thing for the waitress to have done would have been to warn us when we first sat down that we would have a long wait ahead of us....

Proceed at your own risk at this place!

“Possibly the best mug as ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2014 via mobile

Vidal Benavidez, the chef, opened when we arrived. We had lunch here yesterday also. The mug as were fabulous but the family recipe called chilaquiles montados was superb. Everything freshly made. The tortillas were excellent too. He was singing in the kitchen while preparing our meal. He sings well too!
