“Wonderful west Texas experience”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

This hotel is full of charm, and helped create the west Texas experience I was seeking. The staff is wonderful, sweet, helpful and full of Texas hospitality. Everything from the band playing in the courtyard when we arrived to busy bar scene at the attached Century Grille was excellent. The rooms were clean, well appointed and the bed and linens were great. Everything was clean and well kept. Can't say enough great things about this historic hotel. It's the real deal.

I recently stayed here for one night whilst visiting Marfa, about 20 minutes away. I absolutely loved this hotel, it has so much character and was a welcome break from the chain hotels I had been staying at on the road. The front desk staff were so friendly and the place had such a nice vibe. The room was on the small side, but I only booked a basic one, there are suites etc available. The room had lovely solid wood furniture in it and the bathroom was rustic-cool. There only downside is that there are trains running through Alpine all through the day and night sounding their horns. They do supply ear plugs but be aware if you are a light sleeper, it didn't really bother me however. There is free parking at the side of the hotel and free breakfast which was really nice. There is also a restaurant which we ate in and thoroughly enjoyed too. There was just something about this place that really got me, if you are looking for somewhere in the area, I couldn't recommend enough. I'll be back!

I'm glad you enjoy your stay, It was a pleasure to have you. I'm sorry about those pesky trains but we love the charm they bring to our neck of the woods. We love hearing your feedback and I hope next time were able to get you into one of those gorgeous suites of ours! Thanks again for your lovely comments!

Last week, stayed at Holland Hotel along with two other couples. It was a great experience. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The General Manager greeted us several times with a nice and friendly smile. The lobby was spacious, comfortable, and provided a relaxing atmosphere. The room was clean and very nice. My wife had very good things to say about the mattress. She has a bad back and commented how comfortable it was. It has a very nice breakfast and it is close to the areas we visited.
This is a great hotel to stay at and we plan to stay there again soon.

So, yes, there is a train that rumbles through Alpine at strange hours (often the wee hours of the morning). Shades of My Cousin Vinny. But the Holland Hotel itself is a gem, especially its restaurant. It is reason enough to stay in Alpine.

Chef Tammi did a great job over two days for our group of over 80 people. The food was top notch and the service equally good. The food and service were so good, in fact, that my wife and I cancelled our last night's stay in Lajitas and came back to the Holland for one last overnight - and one more fabulous meal. Chef Tammi and the Staff did not disappoint!

If you like the Gage Hotel in Marathon, you will love The Holland Hotel in Alpine. It's a beautiful 19th Century railroad hotel brought back to life. Kudos to the owner for preserving the hotel and finding a way to add modern amenities, such as a cozy lobby computer office and WiFi.
The rooms are old timey, but comfortable. Top quality bedding and ear plugs made for a good night's sleep. As for those ear plugs, like all authentic hotels in the Western US, this building is at the railroad track. Trains whistle through the night. If you want authenticity, this is the real thing. Loved our stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel. It will cut down on some of the train noise.

My wife and I love Trans-Pecos Texas for it's wild, beautiful desert scenery and it's off-the-beaten path appeal. The great thing is that it just got better for us. We'd heard the Holland Hotel had been brought back to life, so made a point of checking it out on our way back home from New Mexico. We loved it! The lobby, bar, restaurant and reading room are all loaded with character and have been lovingly restored and decorated with the hotel's trademark mix of Spanish Colonial, Mexican and Western flair. The interior courtyard with it's huge fireplace is a great place to relax over drinks in the evening or breakfast (awesome homemade baked goods and fresh, piping hot coffee) in the morning. Finally, our room (#203), though lacking any real view, was spacious and well equipped with one of the most comfortable king beds we've ever slept in. As you'd expect in a hotel of this vintage, the bathroom was on the small side, but was equipped with everything you need, including a shower with plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure. Do yourself a favor and check add this to your list of must-stay accommodations (with The Gage Hotel in Marathon and Indian Lodge in Fort Davis) the next time you're traveling in this region.

We have now stayed at this hotel three times. Each time we have had a great experience. The hotel itself has a great Old Texas flair. It feels homey and the decor is perfect Texan. The staff are wonderful and helpful with suggestions on what to do and where to go. The bar is in front with a view of the passersby. The food at the restaurant has been excellent. It is not a four seasons, but definitely a wonderful hotel in a great central locatin in Alpine. A great kick off to Big Bend and other local sights.

Room Tip: The suites are roomy enough for two, and the larger suites with balcony and living room are giant. T...
