“Best Courtyard I have been to, very good located and renovated”
Reviewed 29 July 2011

Though a bit pricy it is a great hotel, newly renovated and really dowtown with several bars and restaurants in walking distance. There is a parking garage (good against the heat) and a very spacious Lobby incl. a small restaurant/sandwich area. Everything was renovated but with keeping the charme of the good old days. I was lucky to get an upgrade thus my room was really close to perfect, clean anyway and the staff was friendly. However, it is not that cool that the "Do not disturb" was ignored by knocking, calling or ringing the bell two days in a row. I mean, why would you place it if you got disturbed anyway. But not a big deal, probably somebody wanted to make his job just too good. Or they just wanted to make me see "Amarillo by morning" just in time... ;-)

This Marriott rocks! The website pictures of the Courtyard Amarillo Downtown definitely do the hotel justice: upscale, ultra-modern, hip, chic and brand-new. The staff was friendly and clearly proud of their new hotel. Rooms were clean, classy, quiet and (a big plus in Texas in July) the air conditioner worked beautifully! The only negative is not the hotel but its surroundings. Downtown Amarillo is a ghost town. Polk Street used to be the Broadway of Amarillo. Now, the area around the hotel is empty except for a pretty good Tex-Mex restaurant across the street (Acapulco), a really great wine bar at the end of the block(Crush) and--unfortunately--three or four sleazy "nightclubs" of the sort you normally find only on the back streets of New Orleans. However, the area seems safe and once you walk into the beautiful lobby of Amarillo Downtown, you are in a whole different world. Despite being downtown, the hotel is easy to get to from I-40; maybe three to five minutes from the highway. We loved our stay here and were sorry to have to leave!

Room Tip: The "city-view" rooms are nice but for guaranteed quiet, ask for an upper room in back.

Listen this hotel was overrated. It was just another courtyard. Check in was uneventful and the lady at the front desk was standoffish. My key stopped working after several occasions and on checkout, housekeeping kept knocking on my door even though I had do not disturb sign outside. As for parking, there are no elevators and we had to keep walking several floors to the main lobby. Eventually, I was happy to check out because they kept asking us when are we checking out and it was not noon yet. The whole experience was annoying, I might not return...

My husband and I returned to a very, very hot home after vacationing in the mountains. Our air conditioner was not working when we arrived. We guessed the temperature in our home to be around 95 degrees. We could hardly stand it. We opened all the windows to try to cool down the house but since the temperature outside was 102 it was next to impossible. My husband decided we just needed to go get a hotel so that we could cool off and rest from our long trip home from the mountains. He called the Marriott and spoke with Cheryl Holwick. Cheryl was absolutely wonderful. She was very helpful, courteous, and professional. She promptly made a reservation for us. We arrived within 20 minutes and our room was ready. When we walked into our assigned room, the room was very nice but unfortunately it was too warm. We checked the air conditioner and something was not working right. So needless to say, we called down and spoke to Cheryl. She immediately gave us another room to go to. We did not have to go back downstairs and wait around for another room. The room was very clean and cool. Cheryl understood what we had been going through with the heat, etc.. We were hot, frustrated and exhausted. She was very understanding and compassionate. We cannot say enough about Cheryl. We commend the Marriott for hiring employees such as Cheryl whose first priority is the guest. Thank you again for the wonderful service.

This is our second stay with Courtyard Amarillo DT, the first was really nice we decided to stay on our way to Dallas.

This time was a bit different. We checked in late Saturday night and the night scene was in full force. Our room was to the side of the party, a bit loud.

The room was great. We got the King suite with tons of space! We were able to stretch out and do some yoga without being in the way of the TV.

Just a note to the staff, really, there should be more than one coffee pod per room! Vacation or business stay, we need more than the single cup of coffee to get rolling in the morning!

Overall, it was a nice stay, clean renovated rooms, right downtown.

Marriott did an excellent job of rehabbing this property. Its gorgeous. Then they installed a food court-style deli counter instead of an actual restaurant. And its woefully understaffed. They had one person working the "restaurant". This one person had to work the front counter, be the bartender, clean tables, and then go back into the kitchen and cook the food. Seriously. Most folks were forced across the street to local restaurants to eat and drink. That is the last thing I'm interested in doing after driving 10 hours. This is a downtown, urban joint. It needs real food, the atmosphere is more than here already. Its heart-wrenching how awesome this place could be if only Marriott would have a real menu, full bar & room service available. The seating area has booths that have their own flatscreen TVs & remotes so you can watch what you like, a bar table with living greens as a runner, and several freestanding tables.

The city view was very cool at night, and we found the hotel to be very quiet. The beds were comfortable, but I have to question the wisdom of putting the HVAC closet 2' from the head of the bed. The employees were all very nice despite being forced to do the work of 3 people each, and the rooms were very nicely appointed.

If you don't mind going across the street to eat or being extremely limited to what is available on site food & drink-wise, you will likely love this new grand old dame.

Passing through on way to Colorado, stay July 4th. Room was great, clean, great air, best cable selection I've ever had in a hotel. Parking is free, attached and covered. Only draw back was downtown was completely empty. But that's what you get on a holiday.
