Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Obviously a must see in Austin. Nice to take a peek into the big senate meeting room, also used for events. Beat the queues by walking 100 yards to the side of the building and take a side entrance.

Great Capitol building and tour and if you park just for the tour and you're not staying longer we didn't even have to pay for the parking right along the Capitol. They give you lots of information during the ongoing free tours and the building is well worth a visit.

We saw the state capitol building early on a Sunday morning and were surprised that it was open so early. Their is no admission fee but there is security to go through. The inside and outside of the building is beautiful and is done in Italian Renaissance Revival-style. The capitol rotunda shows portraits of every person who has served as president of the Republic of Texas or governor of the State of Texas. There are also sculptures of Davy Crockett, Sam Houston and Steven Austin. The grounds are green, well kept and beautiful.

I have been to Austin multiple times, and never took the time to check out the State Capitol. Well worth the visit. Tours are available to get you inside if you like, but what I really enjoyed was walking the grounds and checking out all the historical artifacts and informational placards around the property. We strolled around for over an hour on the outside.

Left me wanting to know more about Texas history for sure. Arrived on the earlier side on a Saturday, no lines and the place didn't feel crowded. It's a beautiful building which you can wander through and just soak up the history and present day.
