“Super location, friendly staff, nice hotel”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

The location of this hotel is what really bumps it from average to very good. Everything about the HGI Austin Downtown is pretty a-ok, but the close proximity to 6th Street and the Austin Convention Center, make it super convenient.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, good shower heads - what's not to like? I'd recommend this HGI to anyone staying in the downtown Austin area

This hotel has a very unfortunate location. It is right next to highway 35, and one block away from a homeless services provider. Two of my colleagues were panhandled by a very aggressive person as they walked back to the hotel. The bars crank up the music every night and it doesn't go off until 2 AM. Plus, if you stay here on the weekend, make sure you don't have a room near they elevator -- they seem to have a lot of guests who talk at top volume as they exit the elevator. I was traveling on business and needed to sleep. The valet staff was very unhelpful about getting us a taxi when we were leaving, and suggested that we get one down the street at another hotel when our taxi didn't show up (we all were carrying luggage).

We sincerely apologize for the noise created in our area from the music of Austin, TX and for the homeless population impacted your stay with us. We are working with Austin Police Department to assist us to remove homeless indivduals and have placed a internal committed to walk the grounds every hour on the hour to eliminate this issue from occuring. We are going to correct this and make a difference becuase we listen and want each and every stay of yours to be satisfactory!

The Hilton Garden Inn is in a good location, near 6th Street and within walking distance to a lot of Austin attractions. The food in the restaurant was great. The furnishings were comfortable and clean. I recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff was very friendly, which was good. However, the hotel was not well maintained (dirty, trash on the grounds, wallpaper peeling, chipped paint, etc.), and the area seemed very unsafe (bars on windows and doors; windows boarded up; homeless "park" one block away; etc.). I'd never stay there again.

Thank you for your great comments about our excellent and friendly staff! In regards to our location and the city around our building - The City of Austin is currently working on the Waller Creek Project which is creating a mini San Antonio River Walk which will clean up, landscape and apply boutique shopping and dining down the creek throughout the city. The trash is part of this project and in regards to the dumpsters, they belong to the condiminum building and office building in the area that is located not on our property. We are working with the city officials and they have a time frame by November to have this all cleaned up. Thank you again for your business and we look forward to seeing you back soon!

It's a beautiful hotel located walking to distance to excellent evening venues. The staff is very friendly from Valet to front desk to the housekeeping staff members and restaurant. Roomservice was a treat, I recommend the chix sandwich!

There are at least 2 Hilton Gardens in Austin this is the one to go for, the other one I know of, is miles out.
This one is very central right on top of 6th Street and Congress where all the action is. 'Keep Austin Weird' is the local slogan and it is weird but in a good, no, excellent way!
The hotel could do better. Parking is at a premium in Austin and if you have car you need to add $30 dollars a day to your bill for valet parking.

All very well but our experience was very poor. 35 minutes after our car was whisked away there was no sign of our bags though delivery to our rooms had been promised. We were hot tired and sweaty and couldn't have shower or change!
Now the hotel has a sign thus,

' Immediate response to your needs, please touch the guest services hotline on your telephone'

In quest of our bags I touched it several times, each time I was greeted withe response 'Your call cannot be taken.'

It was getting on for an hour before our bags appeared after more nagging and not everything came up. This caused me to take against this hotel!

I was even more annoyed when the next day my son's room was not made up AT ALL though we were out all day and the next day housekeeping did not appear till 2.30pm We had come back out of the heat for a bit of a rest when a maid knocked on the door and told us in no uncertain terms to get out NOW, not in 10 minutes so we could use the loo, NOW.

The beds are very nasty. They are topped with a chunk of that cheap yellow foam rubber, between that and the previous guests' body fluids is a thin top sheet. The overall air is of gloom.ochre walls, dark brown cheapo furniture, brown carpet. The bath was small and had a corrugated base no doubt for non slip but harsh to the skin.

You would not like it here if you have a fear of heights I was perched up behind a large sheet of glass overlooking the fast moving interstate! Because of the internal garage you cannot get a low level room

As I said the location is good, Austin is a wonderful exciting town of weirdness and hipsters. There are lot of ageing rockers about, so all ages will find something. It may be weird but it is fun and it is one of the safest cities in the USA. It is well worth visiting the LBJ library, much more interesting than it sounds especially the 60's room which recreates that era. You can walk to it from the hotel and we did but I had blisters afterwards.! There is a good bus service so you do not HAVE to have a car here so those under 21 could come to Austin and have a good time though not drink alcohol, ID's are closely monitored! Oh and you can walk to the bridge where the bats come out at dusk, a million of them, crowds gather! Ask at the desk for directions.

I would not stay in this hotel again but I would love to come back to Austin

Room Tip: If you do not like heights at all avoid the hotel.

We sincerely apologize for the lack of service from our valet team and the time it took to deliver your luggage. Our Valet team has been addressed to ensure this does not ever occur again. I have also reviewed your survey with our housekeeping team to identify and address the issue brought to our attention about not recieving housekeeping service one day. We thank you for your feedback to help us improve our products and services for you. We will be going through a full refresh in 2015 that will bring a whole new and exciting look to our Hilton Garden Inn. We do hope that you will give us another chance in the future.

I visited the Hilton Garden Inn on a business trip right after the SXSW festival. Both Terence at the front desk and Ethan in the upstairs Lounge were pleasant, genuine & super-helpful! 5 stars because of the great service.
