Owner description: Bakery built in 1876, complete with an old-fashioned oven and wooden baker's spade.

Located across from the Capital Building this lovely store has tasteful and well made Texas souvenirs from handmade cards, wearing apparel, stained glass, paintings, jewelry and other crafts made by talented senior citizens. The Bakery and Sandwich shop is closed but still worth a visit. Easy access by bus or car; parking.

Maybe it's just me, but I expected some fresh bread. Lots of original handmade Texas items for purchase and antiques to view but that's about it.

The three little old ladies running this place were very welcoming, but now that the bakery has been closed down there is little to see here.
Plenty of crafts; well made by senior citizens but really not very interesting.

Found this place several years ago. It offers top quality handcrafted items made by area senior citizens, and a terrfic lunch: soup and sandwich for about $4.25. It's right downtown, and easy to get to. Highly recommended.

The Old Bakery & Emporium in Austin, TX is a really neat
place to shop for something unusual, for yourself or a gift.
All the crafts are made by Austin's Senior citizens and
they also volunteer their time, to keep the place
going. My husband and I both enjoyed our visit there.
