This is a one hour boat ride down Austin's Town Lake. You will learn about Austin's history and some fun facts. If you go in the evening you'll see the Bats come out. You can take your drink on board and snacks if you wish or you can buy them on board but it's a really nice sit back and enjoy the scenery and narration kind of ride.

This is a must see during the Bat season while in Austin! It is pretty spectacular to see several thousand bats hear a near silent calling and off they go! The Captain who narrated with the right amount of humor during the boat tour of Lady Bird Lake was an added treat. He was both informative and amusing. Then after the Bats we were able to take some amazing photos of the Austin City Lights from the LB lake. Great inexpensive fun tour! We'll do it again next trip to Austin!

This riverboat tour was a special treat during a recent conference! Our hosts had rented the two-tier Lone Star boat for our dinner cruise and we got to see the bats! Some got pooped on which we were told was good luck...oh well. But the rest of the cruise was delightful and the crew fantastic!

So there was some sort of "Bat Festival" going on in Austin ON Congress Bridge the very day we had reserved to check out the sunset bat cruise. We were on foot and had to convince the festival workers to let us through or we would miss our boat (it was a loooong way around if we had to go the other way). Made it through and waited in line at what we thought was the boat... It was not. So we go to the other boat.. cash only. We were all loaded with ATM cards and had about 7dollars cash and 2 cold beers between the 3 of us.
Anyhow, we ended up watching the bats at sunset on land, with all of Austin in attendance trying to keep it weird. It was a spectacular sight to see. I do recommend at least enjoying the view under the bridge as we did. I will definitely check out the boat next time. It's only ten dollars and you can bring your own cold drinks. Just make sure you have the right boat and cash!

We did the evening bat tour and had a fabulous time. The guides are excellent in the discussions and the boat driving. I had seen the bats from above on the road a few other time but nothing beats being that close and having a million bats fly over your head. Plus the boat is BYOB! What's not to love?
