South Congress has food trucks, restaurants, music, great shopping and an eclectic group of people that entertain including some big named Austinites who are often down there. You can't come to Austin and not spend some time around SoCo.

Don't waste your time. All resturants and stores are WAY over priced and you can forget finding a parking place. There are many more things to do around town than this.

SoCo is fun anytime, but even more so on Thursday through Saturdays. That's when the people watching, the live music and everything else is happening. There are many options for great restaurants or music or just sitting on a patio and having a beer while watching the world go by. Interesting boutique shopping too. My faves? Gueros Tex Mex and the live music under the oak tree, Home Slice Pizza (yum!), Pearla's seafood, Jo's coffee, Amy's ice cream, Continental Club, Vespaio Italian, Wahoo's fish taco. I could go on and on. You can't go wrong down on SoCo.

South Congress is a combination of unique one-of-a-king shops and restaurants. All kinds of shops from a costume rental to clothes, antiques, jewelry, and furniture. The restaurants are also unique. A great seafood, a great Italian, pizza by the slice, a great Mexican as well as several food trailers.

South Congress used to be old Austin, but now it is full of tourists and trendy shops and eateries that are too expensive for what they are and it is too darn hot in the summer! And there are lots of people with annoying strollers on too narrow sidewalks on the weekends pushed by couples trying to prove that they can be hip and have kids. Unless you like to sweat profusely while standing in line I recommend just staying in your local town and visiting your own main street. It will save you a lot of money. If you do like to sweat profusely while standing in line for something over rated, I would recommend and amusement park, at least you will get a little bit of a thrill and at least they have misters in most of the lines and they sell cold water every ten feet.
