“Excellent - modern rooms, superb service, conf. facilities and dining”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

Our expectation was definitely high as we knew The W branded hotels are usually the best hotels in town with their modern rooms and superb service - so choosing W Austin over others for our business trip to Austin was a no-brainer.

Our rooms were schick, comfortable and roomy with awesome view of Austin (oh and check out your room bathroom). The staff members were very friendly and definitely knew what they were doing. They even gave us complementary Accura car-ride promotion service (though we went just 5 blocks from our hotel to another hotel where our clients were staying...but that was pretty cool).

Also - if you are in Austin for business, checkout their conference facilities. We needed a room for roughly 15 people from early in the morning to late in the afternoon. Although we went over our allotted time they were perfectly okay with that and didn't bother us by interrupting our meeting to let us know the time was over (that happened to us at some other hotels we stayed in the past...). They had a very competent conference technician onsite who perfectly setup our phone, screen and projector as well as WiFi. Regan (their director of catering) did a fantastic job preparing our lunch (few of us were deathly allergic to certain ingredients and Regan offered us a pretty much customized menu). The meeting went well and our clients were certainly very happy that we hosted our counterparty (buyers) at W Austin.

All in all - whenever I head down to Austin, I will stay at W Austin. It's a schik, modern hotel where you feel so much cooler than if you were staying at an old, dingy looking nearby Marriott or Hilton. It's definitely good for both busienss and leisure. Looks like our team is going to be down in Austin soon.

This is a stylish place and the service (even though most of the staff appear to be quite young) is pretty good. If you enjoy downtown Austin, the location is phenomenal – most of the bars and high-end restaurants are within walking distance. The rooms are large, modern and very comfortable. There was a small hiccup at check-in because I had requested an early check-in and it appeared that we would be disappointed. But the Manager on duty stepped in and my spouse and I were on our way to a very enjoyable stay. I paid extra for a room on the river side, but gave it up to check in early – still a very nice view of downtown Austin.

Even though this place is pricey, our visit was during a UT football weekend because we wanted to be away from the normal game day chaos. We requested a shuttle ride to DKR Memorial Stadium and we were dropped off close to MLK Blvd. We were able to hop on the shuttle after the game for a quick return to the hotel. Another bonus: Love the room keys because one is required to access the elevators. Security was especially visible because it was Halloween weekend and there were several parties in and around the hotel. So much for a quiet weekend, but we “older folks” had fun and the hotel staff handled the crowds beautifully.

So there are lots of really "Cool" places in Austin, but if you are looking for something a little more refined and with substance, W is your place. Starwood has done a great job of creating a unique space, while still holding on to their signature W look and feel.

Rooms are comfortable and luxurious. The bar and lounge areas have a great vibe, fun atmosphere and great drinks.

I highly recommend the W Austin if you are looking to get away from the other "Cool" or "Weird" Austin locales.

My husband and I recently stayed at the W in downtown Austin. We had a positive experience. Check-in was very smooth. The service at the hotel was friendly and efficient.

The room we had was very small. There was not really any place to sit / hang out. I'd expect this size room in a big city, but in Austin is seemed kind of funny. The room size wasn't an issue for us since we planned to be out and about, but it might have been if we'd wanted more downtime. Also, even though the bed was a Queen, it seemed really small.

We were on a high floor and music from outside was not a problem. I could see that music might be an issue (as one reviewer commented) depending on room location.

We did visit the spa during our visit (something we never do at a city hotel) and it was excellent. I had a wonderful treatment - thank you!

My wife and I had a weekend away from the kids so we stayed two nights over New Year's Eve and we have nothing but great things to say about the W and the staff. Everyone was courteous, professional and extremely pleasant...you were always greeted with a smile. Drew McQuade, the GM, is always available should you have any issues.

Room was great, location is perfect for visiting Austin...we had NYE dinner/party at Trace, the hotel restaurant and it was an awesome time...can't say enough good things about the W!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the river!

My husband and I had overworked ourselves and were worn out by year end 2011. We decided to do a 2 night stay at the W in downtown Austin. Our cozy room was definitely cozy. At first it felt small, but then we opened the curtains and loved our view of the city. Watching the lights come on as night fell was so sweet. The hotel staff are gracious and accommodating. It's a luxurious hotel that doesn't lose the friendly vibe you expect when you're in Austin. We really enjoyed our stay.

I have been an SPG platinum member for about a year now, and while on the road, we called and booked the Win Austin for a night. We used a few points and some cash, and Wow. What a place. The moment we arrived we were treated as royalty, as was everyone else that stayed there. It was such a great place, we extended for another night. The hotel is really cool, hip and fun. The 4 different bars in the lobby were amazing, lounge living room areas. the staff, from the door people, men and women, to the housekeepers, and of course the concierges. They knew everything, anytime, and I used them and their contacts and information for all the hot tips.

Room Tip: Try and get a room that looks over the water, the higher the better.
