Went to Austin to celebrate our 5th anniversary, and decided to stay at the W given it's location and it being a Starwood property. Hotel is beautiful, room was large and well laid out. The concierge staff was extremely helpful with reservations and suggestions.
We were welcomed with a bottle of champagne and snacks in the room which was an unexpected treat after having multiple flight delays. Again, thank you to the concierge staff or management for the welcome gift.
The main reason for the 'very good' versus 'excellent' rating is the cleaning and front desk staff. The empty containers for the snacks were never removed from the room over the 3 nights we were there. Ice buckets weren't emptied or refilled. Room service trays remained in the hallway for over 12 hours each day we were there, this is really not acceptable at a W hotel. The front desk would forget requests for water or towels and you had to call back down. SPG platinum recognition not really the best either, didn't know I had the option of getting breakfast (most W's don't offer that as a welcome gift).
Overall it is a great hotel with great style and a great concierge staff, thank you Chris, however it is the small touches that are easily remedied that would make this an excellent hotel.More
